THE SCOTTISH KENNEL CLUB - General Championship Show

OLD ENGLISH SHEEPDOGS       Held on: Saturday 18th MAY 2019      Judge: Russell F. Jones (Quemerford)

I had the pleasure of judging Old English Sheepdogs at the Scottish Kennel Club Championship Show on Saturday 18th May 2019. My thanks go to my 2 Stewards who kept the ring moving nicely throughout the day. Also, to the exhibitors who showed there exhibits a good clean, well-groomed and nicely presented condition.  

PD (2,0), 1 Mr. M.P. & Mrs. D.J. Palmer, Red Devil Aus Dem Elbe-Urstromtal for Hazyland, (Imp. Bel.): A 10mth old upstanding dog puppy, that’s coat is changing nicely. He has a good size head that is masculine for his age. Nice length of neck, good front, good depth of brisket for his age and good spring of rib. I would like him to have a shorter loin. But he has a good back end with good angles and neat hocks. He was handled well and was good on the move. Pleased to award him BPD, BPIB. He was later pulled out in the split of the puppy group. Well done.        2 Mrs. A. Corrigan, Krisendaw Celtic Charm: An 11mth old dog that has a pleasing shape and out line. His muzzle is a little short for me, but he has a good skull and head properties. Fair reach of neck, front is slightly steeper which reflects in his front movement. Good rear and stands well. His coat is coming along nicely and he was well presented. He is very pleasing to look at.

JD (1,0), 1 Mr. C. Laybourne & Miss A. Johnson, Mellowdee Paws In Thyme In Dominoesdale: A 15mth dog that is coming along nicely. He has a good head and neck, neat front and deep brisket. Good back, strong back end and neat hocks. Coat is coming through nicely. Moved well around the ring.

PGD (4,1), 1 Mr. D. & Mrs. V. McIntosh, Amblehay Ace Of Heart At Blairdon: A very well-coated dog that pushed hard for the RCC. He is rising 3yrs of age with a good head, neat neck, good brisket and front. I like his lovely shape and good back end. Moved out very well, I liked him a lot.        2 Mrs. J.M. Forbes, Bovaron Class Act For Aberdream: Another nice dog of 3yrs that just needs to settle on the move. He has a good head, neck and front, deep brisket and good back. His loin could be a little shorter and he has a good back end. Just needs to settle more.       3 Mrs. M. Dimmock, Kerjalee His Moment Now For Sutranzo, Sh.CM: Just over 2yrs of age, a pleasing dog, that is masculine for his age. I would like to see a longer muzzle and a shorter loin. He has a neat front and strong rear. Moved out very well around the ring. Pleased to award him Special Beginners and to see him win 3rd Special Beginners Grp. Well done.

LD (3,0), 1 Mrs. P.L. Mills, Bottom Shaker Easy Lover with Kerjalee, (Imp. Hun.): A 2yr old dog that has a proper bobtail roll when he walks. He is a very masculine dog that has a good size head, large skull and a well-defined stop. Good length of neck, good front and deep brisket, plenty of bone and good spring of rib. Short loin, good back end, plenty of muscles and neat hocks. His coming along nicely and he was well presented. Moved well covering the ring with ease. Pleased to award him the CC and BOS. Congratulations.       2 Mr. R. & Mrs. J.H. Bell, Bovaron Easy Rider With Soulbobs: A nicely balanced 2.5yr old dog that is of a smaller type than 1st. He has a good size head and good length of neck, neat front with deep brisket and plenty of bone and good spring of rib. Nice rear end with good angles and neat hocks which he used to good affect when he moved. He pushed hard for the RCC and I was pleased to award it to him.       3 Mrs. A. Ferguson, Mellowdee Moriarty with Lexalby, Sh.CM: A 3.5yr old dog that is a great mover and is of a good type with a good outline, but I feel, for me, that he needs more substance. Other than that he is well balanced and deserves being placed.

OD (4,2), 1 Mr. A.K. Rathband & Miss. J. Fealy, Ch. Keynell Midnight Moon: A 3yr old dog that is very cobby, again he has a bobtail roll. He is of a smaller type but is all male and was shown in a good clear coat. He has a good out-line and is of a good type. Moved out well around the ring and was certainly in the mix for the top spot. An eye-catching dog that I liked a lot.       2 Mrs. A. Turner, Hibray Unwrapped For Barkston: I love this 5yr old dog and I have placed him well before. He is of a good type and size with a good out line. But un-fortunately today he seemed to be lacking in condition, which maybe just a phase. A dog I would love to see gain his title.

VD (1,0), 1 Mr. C. Laybourne & Miss A. Johnson, Mellowdee The Magician In Dominoesdale, Sh. CM: A 10yr old dog that was shown in fine fettle. He is a pleasing dog of nice type with a nice out line. He was enjoying his day out and was shown in a good coat for his age. Just a little un-settled on the move, but at 10yrs he is entitled to be. Well done and thanks for bringing him.

SP.BG. (1,0), 1 Mrs. M. Dimmock, Kerjalee His Moment Now For Sutranzo, Sh.CM: See above – went on to win Spec. Beg. Grp. 3. Well done.

PB (4,0), 1 Mr. C. & Mrs. S.J. Terry, Shaggylands Silver Star: A very cute 6mth old girl that dominated the ring with her confidence and moved around the ring like a pro. I loved her type and outline, very promising in this strong class.       2 Mr. G. & Mrs. D.A. Castle, Molyneux Run For Home: A 10mth old well-developed puppy bitch that is of a good type with a nice outline. Moved out well around the ring. Her coat is beginning to come through nicely.       3 Mr. D. & Mrs. V. McIntosh, Argovian New Moon Rising Over Blairdon, (Imp. Che.): I liked this 11.5mth old girl, very feminine, just my type. She is a great shape and out line, her coat is coming through nicely. Un-fortunately just didn’t move as well as 1 and 2 on the day.        4 Mrs. E. Amos, Partramos Lady Charlotte.

PGB (5,2), 1 Mrs. S. Rutland & Mrs. T. Porter, Mellowdee Make Me Blush: WOW where did this 2yr old girl come from. She is just up my street, cobby, great type with a lovely outline. Her coat is crisp and well presented. When moving she has the bobtail roll which I love. She was well handled and moved soundly and free with excellent front extension and good rear drive. Her head is well proportioned with fair length of neck, neat front and deep brisket and good bone. Good back and good rise over loin, nice angles to rear with neat hocks. Pleased to award her the CC and BOB. Well done.       2 Mr. M.P. & Mrs. D.J. Palmer, Hazyland’s Cheeky Girl: A 23mth old bitch of good type and outline, that was also shown in good coat. Moved out well around the ring. She pushed hard for RCC but just missed out today. Pity as I liked her a lot.       3 Mrs. J. Hardy-Hodgson, Hazyland Call the Shots: Litter sister to 2nd in class. Has similar properties, coat still changing. Is of a pleasing type and outline, moved well. Just needs to settle.

LB (2,0), 1 Mrs. S. Robertson, Hickorystix Keep The Faith: A very nice 2yr old bitch that is of a pleasing type with a nice out line. She has a well-balanced head for her size, good length of neck, neat front and deep brisket. Good back and rise over loin with good angles to rear. Moved out well around the ring. Well-handled and was shown in good harsh coat. Pleased to award her RCC. Well done.     2 Mrs. P.L. Mills, Kerjalee She Has Her Moments: Another nice feminine bitch that is 4yrs of age. She is a good shape and is a nice type. Was shown in an excellent coat of colour and texture. She pushed hard for 1st place, liked her a lot.

OB (6,2), 1 Mrs. C. Naismith, Zottels Honey Moon At Shaggybo, Sh.CM: A pleasing type of bitch that is rising 3yrs of age she was shown in a good jacket. Good head and front, good deep brisket, would like a shorter loin, nice angles to rear and neat hocks. Best mover in this class.       2 Mrs. S. Rutland & Mrs T. Porter, Mellowdee Lady Mae: Another nice bitch of 3.6yrs of age. Whose jacket is coming along nicely, she was well groomed and presented. Just beaten today on movement. That said she is a nice type with a nice out line. One to watch out for.       3 Mrs. C. Bailey & Mrs. S. Henderson, Zottels Fairy Dust: A 4yr old bitch of good type with a good out line. She was shown in a wealth of good coat and was ok on the move, a pleasing girl.     4 Mr. A. & Mrs. T.C. Gould, Sutranzo Moments Of Magic.

VB (2,1), 1 Mr. A.K. Rathband & Miss. J. Fealy, Ch. Keynell New Moon: A lovely girl rising 9 yrs. of age that was enjoying her day out. Very cobby and of a good type with a nice out-line. She is very pleasing to the eye and she moved very well for her age. Pleased to award her Best Veteran Bitch and overall Best Veteran.
