Southern Counties Canine Association

Breed: Papillon

Southern Counties Papillon, 31 May 2019.

My sincere thanks to the committee the invitation to award CC’s for the first time in a breed I have had an interest in for many years, albeit a fair few since I was an exhibitor of them. I was delighted with nearly 100 entries.  For me a papillon should be a natural beauty, dainty and graceful and light on its feet, some sound moving dogs unfortunately dropped a few places as for me they were too heavy. I felt the high tail was lacking somewhat in the overall entry. I would like to that my stewards for their attentiveness, efficiency and the sweeties, and to all of the exhibitors for their support in a good sized entry. I thoroughly enjoyed the appointment and certainly felt like I had a smile on my face all day.

1st GLENIREN WHO'S YOUR DADDY (MR G & MRS I ROBB) an 8 month old tri who certainly draws the eye as he enters the ring, he is presented in gleaming coat and condition, lovely large mobile ears, medium sized dark eyes, mouth ok, black pigment, head presentation was overdone for me. He has lovely bone and hair feet, fairly long in body with good spring of rib and holding a level topline. I would like a little more lift to tail. He stands and moves so confidently and is already a showman just needs to tighten in front. BPD.

2nd PAPPRETTY I WANT A HERO (C D ANDERSON), 6 months RSW who was a lovely size. Very good head, balanced with dark eyes, good mouth, firm ears, defined stop. Well proportioned in body, tail a little flat for me, good bend of stifle and fine boned.

He carried a well arched neck, held a level topline and had a gorgeous high plumed tail, he was more finished than 2nd. Moved lightly and positively on a loose lead.

2nd MELANGEL HIGHLAND BY DESIGN AT JHANAKIA (MRS S & MRS J AUSTIN & THOMPSON) lovely boy, B/W who had just dropped his coat. Another with a fabulous head piece, large mobile ears, slightly rounded skull, alert expression. This boy is dainty with fine bone and moved with confidence.

1st RINGLANDS TIMELESS GIFT (MRS P MUNN) pale R/W who scores on his ears and coat above all else. He is built on long, fine bone and covers the ground well; his movement has some real drive to it. I would have liked a bit more width to back skull but has enough overall balance. He has the most amazing, large mobile ears with lovely firm leathers and super fringes. His head is carried on a well arched neck and he has a nice high plume giving a balanced outline in profile. Beautifully presented coat of pure silky texture.

2nd INIXIA FOLLOWER OF FASHION (MRS A & MRS S BOUGHTON & STANBURY) B/W slightly smaller and more compact than my winner, another with typy head and expression, although slightly smaller ears than winner they was well used. 1st CH FEORLIG SMARTY PANTS JW SHCM (MISS K F & MR E L MILLER & RYAN) a fully mature 5 years old RSW. He entered the ring knowing he had a job to do. On first inspection he stood with good balance, just the right length to height ratio. His head is of very good type, excellent dark eyes and pigment, large fringed ears that were mobile and attentive, defined stop and refined muzzle. Very good lay of shoulder and rear angulations allowing him to move with purpose and correct reach and drive but all the time with a light and dainty stride and retaining level topline. Lovely muscle tone and body all through. Presented in first class condition. His profile movement gave him the edge over a stunning bitch to take best of breed. CC & BOB.

1st SKYVANA XPOSE (MISS S C LANGDON) 12 month B/W who headed a class of promising bitches. First and second were well matched for size and performance. 1st really reminded me of the type of papillon around when I exhibited, totally natural without exaggeration. Feminine in head with finer muzzle than skull, defined stop, dark sparking eye. She was covered in a real quality silky coat and was the more mature of the two today. Delighted to award her res CC and BPIB. She will do well.

2nd METAMORPHIC VISTA (MRS K J & MS A J WELLS & BROWN) again such lovely breed points and close to one. The most enchanting head and expression; a little broader than first in muzzle. She is a real show girl, alert, well placed and used ears, good body. Will change places I am sure.

Excellent proportions, darkest of eyes and pigment. He coat is divine and presented to perfection, it shines with health and is pure silk. She has a high tail standing and moving and that is something she does with ease. She lost out in the challenge to her more mature kennel mate.

2nd ELANGEL ENCHANTING EVITA AT JHANAKIA (MRS S & MRS J AUSTIN & THOMPSON) RSW slightly finer in bone than first and another lovely bitch. Standing she didn’t quite match the length of body to my winner. Overall much to like as all in the right place. Correct head, ears and expression, hare feet, well set tail. Good size. Dark round eyes, ex mouth. Straight front, tight elbows and good bend of stifle. She was slightly longer in loin than 2nd and had an excellent tail plume and carriage. Well handled.

2nd ABLAZZOR ANGEL OF THE NORTH AT PANSPAYON JW (MISS S ORCHARD) another alert little lady, slightly smaller than my winner. Classic head and expression, dark alert eyes. She stands so well on good legs and feet with level topline, nice plume. Covered in a coat of good texture she presents herself well and holds nice outline and moves parallel.
