Welsh Kennel Club

Breed: Dachshund (Miniature Smooth Haired)

It’s been almost 5 years since I last judged this variety, & what struck me most is the change in temperaments, where has the bold defiant temperament gone? Also weight was an issue, & this was overweight, not underweight. It wasn’t just the odd 1 or 2 overweight but a high percentage of the entry. I know it’s not easy keeping to an 11lb limit & I am lenient on a few ounces especially in males, but half a pound plus as it was for some is a push too far. We have to work with the parameters of what is laid down within the breed standard as they currently are.

MPD (4) 1 Williams & Moes’ Cwmdarhian Hadley Parks, presented a balanced outline, pleasing head, a little forward in shoulder, well ribbed back, & good rear with muscle, held his outline, good underline, moved out true both ways.

2 Owen’s Gwendary Pickpocket, lovely head & expression well made front & rear, body ok, moved out well, was tending to pull to one side on the way back, good in profile.

3 Dunhill’s Gellijams Russian Sun

PD (3) both well up to size.

1 Paget & Carroll’s Metadale Lark Ascending, liked his overall balance & attitude! Lovely head with infill under the eye. Well made front & rear, touch long in loin, moved out well with plenty of attitude.

2 Smith’s Wolferlow Tipping Point, different type, lacked the infill under the eye, not too bad through his front & rear, not always co operating with his handler which affected his topline when stood, moved ok.

JD (5) 1 Hunt’s Wolferlow George Brown At Carpaccio, lovely size, good head, best front in this class with nice tight elbows, well made rear & good underline & keel went back well. Moved out well & covered the ground.

2 Andison & Peel’s Clentry Hear Me Roar, liked his head & neck, ok through his front, made the best of himself stacked, rear ok, moved out well.

3 Shutt’s Donnadoon Dust Till Dawn

PGD (6) 1 Charlesworth’s Keydax Leroy, ok in head, well made front & rear was good when his handler didn’t over stretch him, a touch too long for me ideally, but presented a balanced picture, good underline, & held his outline on the move

2 Melbourne’s Ambreglo Storm At Melriding, this boy didn’t make the best of himself stacked, but had a super head & well made throughout, moved out well & held his outline.

3 Starkey’s Carpaccio Black Obsidian For Hamoura

LD (4) 1 Smith’s Wolferlow Admiral Nelson, head ok not too bad in front, moved out & covered the ground, held his outline ok through his rear.

2 Shutt’s Melriding Captain Cook Of Donnadoon, good headed dog who looked good when stacked, but was rather unco- ordinated on the move.

3 Carey’s Donnadoon Dark Moonbeam For Debbiejay

OD (6) 1 Ergis’s Ch Siouxline Jacob JW, lovely type, typical from this consistent kennel. Well made throughout & moved out with purpose, CC.

2 Mitchell’s Bronia Biaggio, different type & handled to advantage, head ok, but not quite me, well made throughout, & moved well, with a bit more ground clearance & he would have been my winner.

3 Smith & Connor’s Ch Bronia Gregorio JW Sh.CM

VB (2) 2 gorgeous girls. 1 Melbourne’s Ch Golden Algonquinette Of Melriding, loved her head, ok through her front, in good condition well made rear & moved soundly.

2 West’s Archidax Bonneville, another lovely girl, super head & expression, well made throughout & moved well.

MPB (1) 1 Lewis’s Gellijams To Russia With Luv Trixhund, pretty headed baby, ok in front & rear, not moving at her best today.

PB (4) 1 Metcalfe-Bilgin’s Metadale Legacy To The Lark, loved this girl, as I went over her I thought this is the one they’ve all got to beat! Super head, best of fronts, beautifully balanced, correct proportions & loved her attitude on the move where she covered the ground with ease. CC, BOB & BP.

2 Andison & Peel’s Clentry A Star Is Born, liked this girl as well for her type & balance, well made throughout & moved out well.

3 Kent’s Lokmadi Catherine Wheel

JB (12) 1 Merry’s Merryline Miss Moneypenny, good headed girl, with a lovely well made front, super body & balanced rear, did not disappoint on the move.

2 Callow’s Garthorne Georgia, liked this girl, lovely head, front ok & rear, a touch long through her body, but a nice type, moved well.

3 Blackburn’s Stargang Desert Orchid

PGB (14) 1 Ergis’s Siouxline Rachel, lovely youngsster, super head with a strong jaw, lovely neck into well placed front, balanced rear & moved out well with confidence.

2 Melbourne, Carroll & Paget’s Melriding Sea Infanta, different type, well made throughout, not making her handlers life easy, but settled on the move.

3 Morris & Wadell’s Bronia Sancia

LB (12) 1 Mitchell’s Bronia Bellezza, liked her type, head ok, good length of neck, well made front & rear, best ribbing & moved soundly, RCC.

2 Herrington’s Kathington Just By Chance JW, another nice one, not always at her best on the stack, but was lovely to go over & moved well.

3 Callow’s Garthorne Grace Kelly

OB (9) 1 Williams & Moes’ Ch Cwmdarhian Prty Lika Rushn, liked her overall balance & outline, well made front & rear, I would prefer a shorter loin, but where she came into her own was on the move where she covered the ground with ease.

2 Hunt’s Carpaccio Clarice Cliff JW, another nice type, a little narrow through her front, but other than that a well made girl who went well.

3 Melbourne, Carroll & Paget’s Siouxline Goldilocks Of Melriding
