CHESAPEAKE BAY RETRIEVER

VD (3) 1 McCartney’s Double Coat's Chesepi Ice Shaddow at Nunneyswood, at nearly 8 he is an excellent example of the breed, masculine head & expression with well set & carried ears, good neck & shoulders, correct topline, excellent hindquarters & well set tail, just enough coat but what he has is of excellent texture & quality; 2 Uncles’ Sh Ch Arnac Bay Exe, in excellent coat & so well presented, at nearly 8 he is a credit to his owners, well boned legs & feet with a good ribcage & strong loin & good flanks, good hindquarters & well set tail, good eye of correct colour; 3 Milner’s Polotter Pickled Piper, completed an superb class to start with. You all should be proud of how beautifully prepared your exhibits were. PD (3) 1 Barrass’ Avifors Nundus, what a lovely puppy who was so very naughty, he just made me smile! He is quality & well made throughout but just right for age, in excellent coat of the correct texture with strong hindquarters & a well set tail, kept a good topline both set up & on the move, head still needs to finish but it is masculine with a good eye & expression, well set ears, good neck & shoulders, nice ribcage coming, moved (when he settled) on well boned legs & feet, I did see glimpses of good profile movement with the correct forequarter movement & excellent hocks & pasterns. BP; 2 Mullen’s Riverrun Flavius Floyd, needs maturity to finish & for the coat to come through properly but he shows promise for just over 9 months, he is a lovely type & settled well on the move, shows promise of a masculine head but he has a good expression from correctly shaped eyes with well set ears that are not too heavy, good neck & shoulders, held a good topline both set up & moving, well muscled hindquarters with the correct bend of stifle, he is balanced & showed well; 3 Pearce ‘s Cal-I-Co Ngd U Got The Look. Three very promising puppies who should have fun in the coming season & I am sure will also start their training for the field. JD (1) 1 Musselwhite’s Puntgunner Ebbing Tide, alone but could win in any company for he is very typical of his breeding, this strong youngster of 15 months is an excellent mover when he got into his stride, very masculine in outlook with an excellent head & expression, he has a good coat but don’t bath the day before a show as it makes it soft & untypical but he has a good undercoat & when the coat settles I know it will be OK! Good neck & shoulders with a lovely forechest, good depth & width of ribcage with a good flank leading to a well muscled hindquarter & well set tail, showed well. PG (6) 1 Backhouse’s Oakmarsh Falcon, an interesting class which showed me the difference in size & shape of the breed which makes it difficult for breeding to the Standard. This dark brown dog pleased me, for his balance & when he settled, he moved so well on well boned legs & feet, really using his correct forequarters & strong hindquarters to advantage to cover the ground with ease, masculine head & expression & at only 20 months he has a calm nature which appears that he wants to want to please & would be ideal in the field, good depth & width to ribcage & a strong loin & well muscled hindquarters gave him balance & a strong topline & well set tail to complete the picture, very promising; 2 Crewe’s Chesarab Saltmarsh, masculine dog with a good head & expression, just enough coat but what he has is correct with a good undercoat too, good body proportions with a correct neck & shoulders, good topline & strong hindquarters with good width & good pasterns of a moderate length, used to advantage to move with ease around the ring, of a good size & very masculine in outlook, showed well to win his place in this interesting class; 3 Amaira’s Petsals Canuck, showed well to win his place in this class, enough coat & masculine head & expression, moved well on well boned legs & feet. LD (6,1a) 1 Mahon, Hunns & Newton’s Arnac Bay Huron at Bergelle, yet another by Sh Ch Arnac Weatherdeck Buoy, who seems to be making his mark on the breed by producing such quality as this boy, still only 18 months but he is so balanced with a masculine head & expression, excellent neck & shoulders, good width between front legs & a good depth & width to ribcage, strong loin leading to well muscled hindquarters, good topline & well set tail, this balanced boy has an excellent coat of the correct texture with a good undercoat but where he comes alive is when he moves, really reaches out with ease & style & with confidence & a good head carriage, something which is so essential in gundogs for the purpose of working, he is a good size with well boned legs & good feet, showed so well to win here & so pleased to be able to give this youngster the RCC; 2 Hoare’s Petsalls Convertor, darker dog who, when he settled, moved well, half brother to 1 & the same quality & type, he is balanced with a masculine head & expression, good neck & shoulders, strong hindquarters, good topline & well set tail, again an excellent coat of the correct texture with a good undercoat, good depth of chest leading to a strong loin giving him excellent body proportions, he is a good size & showed well to win his place; 3 Griffin-Woods’ Migwell Soloman's Puzzle, another typical dog who won his place on balance & type. OD (7) 1 Barker’s Sh Ch Next Generations Chesepi Range Rider, what a lovely class to judge. Well coloured mature masculine dog with an excellent head, eyes of a good colour with well set & carried ears which gives a very typical expression, lovely strong neck & shoulders with good forequarters & a good depth & width to ribcage, strong loin & well muscled hindquarters, correct topline with well set & carried tail, the strength in his hindquarters & correct forequarters meant that he covered the ring with ease & purpose with the correct head carriage, a quality dog who showed well with the correct coat of good texture & a good undercoat; 2 Mayhew’s Sh Ch Arnac Weatherdeck Buoy, half brother to 1 & the sire to so many top quality dogs on show today, no wonder he appealed. He is balanced with a very masculine outlook, again that excellent head & expression that I was looking for with the kind eye & well set & carried ears, excellent neck & shoulders which he seems to have passed on to so many, correct topline with the rise behind that to me says he can swim & work as it is intended. Excellent ribcage & loin, well muscled hindquarters, correctly set & carried tail, he is a good size with well boned legs & feet; 3 Bosch’s Cie Ch Accord Av Isvani, another excellent type & I am sorry that on the final move I realized that I had 2 & 3 round the wrong way, I apologise but this dog is still a good one but I preferred the tail carriage of 2. Field Trial D (0) Working D (1) Paldetti’s Sh Ch/Int/It/At/Slo/Lux/Hr/F/Sm Ch Nunneyswood Iceberg, what a lovely dog, son of the veteran dog & such quality, he is an excellent type with a masculine head, well set eye of the correct colour good head proportions with a clean lip & well set & carried ears, excellent neck & shoulders, correct topline with well muscled hindquarters that are slightly higher than the withers but his back is strong, he is well muscled all through & put down in excellent coat & condition, correct texture & undercoat, excellent depth & width to ribcage with a strong loin, where he came alive was on the move when he really used his excellent construction to cover the ground with ease & purpose, up & back his footfalls were perfect & his head carriage throughout was excellent. No hesitation in giving him the CC but in the challenge, he was unsettled, so on the day the bitch won through to the group where she gave a good account as an excellent representative of the breed. Good Citizens D (5) 1 Morris’ Sh Ch/Lux/Dutch Ch Penrose Incredible Europe 19, very masculine in outlook, there would be no mistaking his sex, masculine head with a good expression from a correctly shaped & coloured eye & well set & carried ears, put down in excellent coat & condition, strong, well muscled hindquarters, good topline & tailset, correct neck & shoulders, well boned legs & feet used to power him round the ring, showed well to take the class & best Good Citizen overall here; 2 C Saltmarsh; 3 Milner’s Polotter Warrior Of Rhyl, 4th in a strong open class where he was not disgraced, showed well here, he is very typical & put down in lovely coat & condition.

VB (6,1) 1 Murray ‘s Sh Ch/Ir Ch Riverrun Caution To The Wind, darker bitch of quality with just enough coat but what she has is of the correct texture & with enough undercoat to please, pretty head & expression, I particularly liked her balance & outlook for she is very feminine yet still exudes workability, good neck & shoulders, good topline & underline, good hindquarters & well set tail, moved well belying her 8 years, looks younger & behaves so. Impressed me & hence she was made Best Veteran; 2 Roennow-Mortensen’s Multi Ch Pond Hollow Sierra Nevadas WJW12 EW12, well coated bitch of 9 and a half who is balanced with enough hindquarters & a well set tail & good topline, very feminine with a pretty head & expression, moved well on well boned legs & feet, good body proportions with an excellent correct of the correct texture & an undercoat much prized, showed well to challenge in the class; 3 Herring’s Speriever Skokomish Shower, completed the 3 in a good class of typical girls. Thanks for letting me see this 11 year old that seemed to be enjoying her day out. She is lovely & a credit to you. PB (2) 1 Pearce’s Avifors Occamys, well I can see now why she appealed for she is litter sister to the dog who went best puppy & the same comments apply, she too is quality, this youngster has just the right amount of coat at present but I am sure it will soon be there completely for the summer shows, such a pretty head & expression with a good neck & shoulders, still needs to fill out but she is of a good size with well boned legs & feet, good body proportions with a good width to hindquarters & a well set & carried tail, moved well for her age, despite trying to be naughty both moving & set up, it is obviously very hard to concentrate when you are only 8 months old! she was best puppy bitch & well deserved; 2 Dalton’s Pixierose Elderflower, preferred 1’s hindquarters at present as although the same age as 1 she just needs that bit more time to complete the picture. She is very promising with a good feminine head & expression, with good neck & shoulders, she is balanced & a good size but just needs to finish & then these two will be fighting it out in the puppy classes in the summer. Look forward to following their progress. JB (4,1) 1 Paldetti’s Chesapeakeheart Halo Ice Crystal, sired by the dog CC & the same quality & type, very light straw coloured girl who catches your eye with her balanced outline & strong hindquarters with good width, such a very feminine head & expression with well carried eyes, excellent neck & shoulders, although she is about 17 months, she has very good texture to her double coat with covers her body, excellent ribcage & loin held her topline on the move & set up, of a good size with well boned legs & feet, lovely type who has lots going for her, she is a showgirl; 2 Rudman’s Puntgunner My Girl Friday, yet another out of Weatherdeck Buoy, strong girl who is strongly made with a good neck & shoulders, good body proportions, well made hindquarters with good width & good pasterns & hocks with she used to carry her easily & effortlessly round the ring, in good coat of the correct texture, nice type with good head; 3 Hards & Hards’ Penrose Nuthatch, a typical bitch who was spoilt by her own exhuberance, still young but she is very strong & really gave her handler a hard time, if only she would settle, I am sure she can move up the class, for she is well made & a good type with a feminine head & expression, put down in good coat & condition with the correct undercoat. PGB (12,3) 1 Broomfield’s Nunneyswood Snow Flurry at Glaneils, I might have guessed that in such a large class of quality that I would come up with the litter sister to the DCC, yet again that same good type, she caught my eye from the first movement round the ring for her balance & good forequarter assembly & strong hindquarters, excellent head carriage then when I went over her I could see the feminine head & expression with a beautiful eye of a good colour with excellent ears framing a balanced head, strong neck & shoulders, good ribcage & loin, lovely body proportions with an excellent correct coat of good texture with an undercoat which was beautifully prepared; 2 Thompson’s Arnac Bay Harvest, another Weatherdeck Buoy child who was balanced & quality with an excellent head & expression, good coat put down in lovely condition with a good undercoat to complete the picture, excellent hindquarters & well set & carried tail, well boned legs & feet but where she wins is on her true movement up & back & excellent profile movement with good head carriage, she is well muscled all through & a lovely type; 3 Lowther’s

Wild Goose Chaser, completed a class of good bitches with lots going for them, she particularly caught my eye on the move too, & I could see her doing a days’ work, which to me makes the breed what it is. LB (11,2) 1 Mayhew ‘s Arnac Bay Hebe, why am I not surprised that she is the litter sister to the DRCC? Yet another out of Weatherdeck Buoy, this is a beautiful bitch of quality with a most attractive head & expression, a kind eye with well set & carried ears, strong neck & shoulders, good topline & tailset, in excellent coat & condition with a lovely undercoat & the correct texture on her topcoat, she was put down so well, well muscled all through with a good strong ribcage with good depth & width, strong loin & well muscled hindquarters, well set & carried tail, when she moved, I could have watched her all day long for she was just class & just what I would have expected from her confirmation, true movement with no wasted energy & a good head carriage & covering the ground so easily that you could see her in the field & water working with ease & enjoyment. RCC; 2 Coppin & Davies-Jones’ Dallandor Jocasta, again another that caught my eye from the beginning for her precise movement & type, I just knew it would be between these two who both said Chesapeake Bay Retriever to me. So very feminine, there would never be any mistaking her sex, such a lovely head with good balance & an excellent lip which has the correct thinness for perfection, excellent neck & shoulders with the strength needed to do the job in the forequarters, good depth & width to ribcage with a strong loin & topline, well set & carried tail, good width to hindquarters, just lacking the finish of 1 in coat but what she has is correct with a good undercoat & texture to topcoat, she is quality & must go to the top for she is of an excellent breed type & showed so well; 3 Barker’s Chesepi Vienna, completed a trio of well made bitches that must be admired. Moved & showed well on well boned legs & feet, feminine head & expression with a good eye colour & well set & carried ears. OB (8,3) 1 Mayhew’s Sh Ch Arnac Bay Flax, I loved her feminine outlook, very feminine yet still fit for purpose, at one with her handler, she did everything that was asked of her, she is quality & was put down in excellent coat & condition, good double coat with a good undercoat & the correct texture for her top coat, such a feminine head & expression with a beautiful eye of a good shape, well set & carried ears, strong neck & correct shoulders leading to a good topline with no sagging in the middle there was muscle strength throughout & her peak condition showed, excellent width to her hindquarters with good hocks & pasterns, well boned legs & feet & when she moved she covered the ground with purpose & grace, so very feminine I could not resist her for the class or the CC. When it came to the challenge, she was just that bit more settled on the move & when I watched her in the group, I thought what an excellent example of the breed, what a good representative she was for you all. CC & BOB; 2 Murray’s Riverrun Everybody's Friend, another typical bitch of quality who won her place in this strong class on her pretty head & expression, good topline & tailset, well made ribcage & loin, in good coat & condition with the correct undercoat & a good harsh top coat. Strong neck & shoulders with good width in front, well boned legs & feet, she is balanced & moved well with precise movement, of a good size & body proportions; 3 Pont ‘S Sh Ch Penrose Hash Brown, well made bitch who was unlucky today to meet 2 in such sparkling form, she is very typical with a pretty head & expression, from the top drawer, she is still young & the best is yet to come, moved with style & purpose on well boned legs & feet. Field Trial B (0). Working Gundog B (1) 1 Meuser’s Int/Ger/Bel Ch Crosswind's Did It Again, alone but she could win anywhere for she is very typical of the breed & very fit for purpose, you can see you working for she is well muscled & put down in excellent coat & condition, balanced with strong hindquarters & a well set tail, feminine head & expression with a good eye & well set & carried ears, good neck & shoulders, lovely depth & width to ribcage with a strong loin which enabled her to keep her topline both set up & moving, good head carriage in profile. Good Citizen B (1) 1 S Skokomish Shower, grand old girl who was 3rd in veteran, still in excellent coat & condition for her age, pretty head & expression & a permanently wagging tail, moved so well on well boned legs & feet, she is balanced & a good type. Thoroughly enjoyed judging her & hope she too enjoyed her day.
