Firstly, my thanks to the Scottish Kennel Club for the opportunity to judge today. Also to all exhibitors for their entries and the privilege of judging their dogs and of course to my two excellent stewards whose assistance was invaluable. Always an honour and a pleasure to judge one’s own breed and I enjoyed my day very much. That said, dogs generally were better than bitches but movement overall was not good. In some cases I just could not assess the dogs (this perhaps being a symptom of the decline in show training classes through lack of support). Another problem was that a few of the exhibits were overweight. Also mouths could be better, there was a number of level bites as opposed to the correct scissor bite desired in the standard, this does not seem to have improved since I last judged the breed in 2017 and is something that seriously needs to be addressed. Having said all that, I was really pleased with my overall winners.

Puppy Dog (Entries: 2 Absentees: 0) 1. NIKARA FOLLOW THAT DREAM (MRS V FREER). A lot to like in this mature puppy dog. Good outline, soundly constructed. Good angulation front & rear. Good head with all points correct. Profuse coat groomed to perfection. Moved and shown well. BPD & BPIB Not surprised to see him go on to take Puppy Group 2. 2. AMARIGE ENVY ME TO VANDREEM (MESDAMES A & E KIRKWOOD & CAMERON). Another well presented youngster. Still very much a baby but developing nicely. Needs to settle on the move.

Junior Dog (Entries: 1 Absentees: 0) 1. WHITESPIRIT SPRING ACTION (MRS I MCROBBIE). Quite mature for his age in full coat well groomed with a lot to recommend him. Pleasing head with nice Sammy expression, good pigmentation and excellent bite. Did not move well on the day, needs to settle.

Post Graduate Dog (2, 0) 1. SARNOUSHKA SOLAR STORM (MR A & MISS K TAXTER & ANDERSON). Good all round make and shape. Pleasing head with nice eye and ear placement. Pigmentation good. Straight front and rear when on the move, moved extremely well with drive. Quite vocal but then I like a bit of conversation. 2. NOVASKAYA XANDER LEFAY JW (MRS E & MISS A MOODY & HAFFENDEN). Another well balanced lovely dog who is developing nicely. Good depth of chest and good angulation. Attractive head with good pigmentation. This boy let himself down on the day as he did not move well and lacked drive but hope given a little time he will come good. 3. SANTAVIGA JUSTA DIAMOND AT SASOOLKA (A I) (MR J & MRS W DRUMMOND).

Limit Dog (Entries: 7 Absentees: 0) 1. SARNOUSHKA SOLAR STORM (MR A & MISS K TAXTER & ANDERSON). 2. NIKARA DANCING BY THE LIGHT AT MURMANSK SHCM (MR D, MRS L & MISS J DIVERS). Another quality dog with everything in the right place. Slightly smaller than his competition but still within standard. Pleasing head, nice ears, good pigmentation, good angulation and moved well. Shame he came up against my first placing today but I’m sure on another day these placings will be reversed. 3. VANDREEM IMPERIAL STARK (MRS A & MRS M KIRKWOOD & MILES). Res. ROSNORSKE OBI WAN KENOBI (MR T W &MRS A J GWYNNE). VHC ROSSKAJA RUSSIAN ROULETTE DE LUNARTICO SHCM (MISS E J & MR S G GATES PRICE).

Open Dog (Entries: 6 Absentees: 1) 1. CH/EST CH/ LTU CH LV CH/RUS CH/IR CH/FIN CH/LUX CH/INT CH SMILING SNO (MRS C, MR G & MRS K CRAIG, SCOBELL & USPENSKI). This boy has real presence in the ring and cannot be ignored. He is magnificent with the best head I have seen in years. My heart melts every time I look into those beautiful dark eyes. I could wax lyrical when describing his head but enough to say in my opinion it could not be bettered. As for the rest of him, he is soundly constructed with good bone and a profuse coat which was immaculately presented. Nice deep chest and well laid shoulder, good angulation. Moved round the ring like a dream and came very close to taking the ticket today. Very unfortunate to come up against the Veteran Dog in the Challenge who just had the edge but pleased to award him the RDCC. 2. LUMIERE DE LAVIE DREAMLIKE FELIX IMP UKR (MRS J GREGOR). This dog also has a lot to recommend. Good head with typical Sammy expression. He has a nice eye, well placed ears and good pigmentation. Well bodied with sound construction. In good coat of correct texture and well presented. 3. HELLAS BLUEAGEAN O PARIS AT KARMYNSKI SHCM (MRS C C WALKER). Res. AMARIGE ONLY THE BRAVE (MRS C MACLEAN). VHC SAMNOUSKA CHASE THE ACE SHCM (MRS M WILSON).

Veteran Dog (Entries: 1 Absentees: 0) 1. CH NIKARA DIAMOND DANCER JW (MRS V & MRS S A FREER & SMITH). Well from the minute this boy walked into the ring top honours were assured. He is so soundly constructed with super overall balance, he is 9½ years old and just gets better and better. Very pleasing head with nice dark eye, correct ear placement and superb pigmentation. Good bone, good top quality coat of correct texture and groomed to perfection. In fact good everything. I couldn’t fault him in any respect. Moved round the ring like poetry in motion, so together with his handler. He just took over the ring and enjoyed himself. Pleased to award him the BV, DCC and BOB. Not surprised to learn he won the Pastoral Group and went on to take BIS. Well done and congratulations.

Puppy Bitch (Entries: 2 Absentees: 0) 1. NIKARA NEVERENDING DREAM FOR FROSTIA (MR P & MRS D MCGREADE). Beautiful mature 8 months old puppy bitch. Very pretty head which I loved with good pigmentation, nicely shaped eye and correct ear placement. Well bodied with good bone and in full coat which was well presented. 2. SASOOLKA SNOW WHITE (MR J & MRS W DRUMMOND). Beautiful 6 month old baby. This was her first show and she took it all in her stride. Pretty head and good pigment. Body and coat need to develop but what coat there was, was correct texture for age. Moved up and down the ring confidently and her tail never stopped wagging. One to watch for in the future.

Junior Bitch (Entries: 3 Absentees: 2) 1. TARONAKITS ITS KWEST ( MRS S & MISS S BRANDENBERG & SMITH). Very lovely bitch with the sweetest face with all points correct but completely out of coat. Nice texture to what coat there was. Still immature but developing nicely just needs a little time to grow up. Straight front and rear and moved extremely well once she gained confidence in the ring.

Post Graduate Bitch (Entries: 3 Absentees: 0) 1. KARMYNSKI SILVER ARIA (MRS C C WALKER). Another pretty girl with a lot to like. Smart compact bitch, well balanced and well bodied with nice deep chest and good lay of shoulder. Good bone. Eye and ear placement good. Pigmentation good. Profuse coat, well presented. Movement a bit erratic and needs work. 2. ROSSKAJA YOU ARE MY WORLD (MRS R MILNE). This girl was a little smaller but within standard. Nice body with good spring of rib. Good coat of correct texture and well presented. Eye and ear placement good and nicely pigmented. Another with movement that needs work. 3. SAMNOUSKA CHASING RAINBOWS (MRS M WILSON).

Limit Bitch (Entries: 6 Absentees: 1) 1. WHITESPIRIT MADAM MISCHIEF (MR & MRS R DENT). I really liked this girl. Good confirmation and very sound on the move. One of the best movers on the day. Well bodied and well toned. Pretty head with good eye and ear placement. Nice dark pigment. Plush coat well presented. 2. TIKSI DANCING FLAME WITH ASHLANTIE SHCM (MR P G & MRS M A MATFIN). Very pretty feminine head with good eye and ear placement. Well bodied, nice angulation, in good coat which was groomed to perfection. Nice dark pigment giving a lovely overall picture. Well put together. Could have moved better. 3. VANDREEM IMPERIAL KATRIONA WITH ROSNORSKE (MR T W &MRS A J GWYNNE). Res. SAPPHIRE SUNDANCE (MRS E & MRS J MCWILLIAM & GREGOR). VHC BONDSMOOR MAYBE TOMORROW (MR D & MRS C DODDS).

Open Bitch (Entries: 5 Absentees: 1 ) 1. RIGHT ONE FOR MEZEN YOSHI AND US SANTAVIGA (IMP SVK) (MRS J, MRS H & MRS K PRITCHARD, HILL & HALL). WOW what a pretty girl, stood out the minute she entered the ring and I couldn’t take my eyes off her. She has the prettiest head with all points correct giving the perfect Sammy expression. She is so well put together, very sound. Well laid shoulders and nice angulation and very straight front and rear. When she moved round the ring it was like watching water flow, so effortless. So pleased to award her the BCC and she was a close contender for BOB. 2. SAMNOUSKA TIME TO SHINE OF KARENSHKO (MS K NAYLOR). Another lovely bitch but not quite the presence of 1st. Very pretty head with very good pigment. Nice ear and eye placement, good dentition with correct bite. In good coat which was well presented. Quite dainty and very feminine. Moved well. 3. NOVASKAYA LYKKEF LEFAY (MRS E & MISS A MOODY & HAFFENDEN). Res. BONDSMOOR MAYBE IT'S DESTINY (MR D & MRS C DODDS).

A Very pretty head with eye and ear placement good. Lovely pigmentation and nicely bodied. Beautiful coat well presented. She did not move well so movement hard to assess.
