BITCH CRITIQUE FOR THE STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIER CLUB OF SOUTH WALES 

24th November 2019 

I would like to that The Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club Of South Wales for inviting me to judge at their show, it was a very special day for me as it was my first CC appointment, it was such a fantastic moment for me and one that I will never forget! Also a special thank you to Kevin Jones for all the help you have given me, we missed you on the day but i hope you are recovering well. Also a big thanks to my ring stewards for keeping the ring running smoothly you were both fantastic!

In general I didn’t find anything major that would be worrying me about the breed, there was some with untidy bites and a couple which could have had larger canines but nothing too extreme. I would say that some could have been in better condition and more defined, this can be the deciding factor for some placings and it’s the only thing that you can improve on with a bit of extra work but over all most were well presented.

My last thanks has to go to the exhibitors for giving me the privilege of judging your dogs, I can appreciate the time and effort it takes to get your dogs ready for a show and the miles it takes to get there on the day,

VETERAN BITCH

1st Ch Sebsonic Shine A Light At Stormbull This girl still has all the attributes that she had as a youngester..... Only now with a bit of silver thrown in to make her even more gorgeous.

She still possesses a beautiful head which is deep throughout with good stop, correct bite with plenty of under jaw, her dark round eyes never left me as I judged the class and her beautiful expression was framed by her tiny rose ears. Behind the collar she had a short compact neck, good straight front with good depth of brisket, her topline was level both standing and on the move and she had plenty of rib, short coupled and good rear end which was still well muscled and let down at the hocks she moved well up and down the mat and was well handled.

2nd Ch Tariel Ciara

There was little between these two girls and I'm sure they have met on many occasions when showing in their youth, this lady also still has a beautifully shaped head again with a very nice expression, dark round eyes, small rose ears, correct bite, good front with good depth of brisket, nice amount of rib, short coupled and good rear angulations, moved and handled well.

1st Brockmar Rewrite The Stars

Very nicely shaped head of good depth, deep stop, correct bite with good amount of under jaw, small rose ears which are nicely set, dark round eyes which gave her a keen alert expression, she has a short muscular neck which leads down to good shoulder placement, and a straight well boned front with tight well padded feet, she has enough depth of brisket and rib for her age, she is short coupled with a good rear end and her topline was level standing and on the move, she was on her toes throughout the class taking in her surroundings and showing herself off, she moved well her young handler got the best out of her. BEST PUPPY BITCH & BEST PUPPY IN SHOW with my co judges agreement. 

2nd MATRIXSTAFFS BLACK BEAUTY

Another very nice puppy who should have a bright future ahead of her, she has a beautiful head and a fantastic expression, good stop with nice cheek bumps, good underjaw and correct bite, dark eye and nicely placed ears, she has a short compact neck, good front with nice depth of brisket and good amount of rib, short coupled and good rear angulation, she was carrying a little excess weight on the day which in a tough class can sometimes make all the difference, she moved well and her handler got the best from her.

1st JASMARCU CELTIC QUEEN

Good head with correct bite, good underjaw, good amount of stop and dark well placed eyes, small rose ear which are placed correctly all this gave her a very nice expression, she has a well boned straight front, good amount of rib, level topline, short coupled, good well muscled rear quarters which where let down at the hock, she gives me the impression that she won’t reach her full potential until she’s 2-3 years old, but everything is maturing just at the right pace and I’m sure she will have a good career ahead of her. Moved and shown very well.

2nd DILIRYSTAFF SPIRIT OF LOVE

What a lovely shade of brindle this girl is! She had a nicely shaped head with good stop, correct bite and decent amount of underjaw, she has a straight front with plenty of bone and her feet had the desired slight turn at the pasterns, good dept of brisket and good spring of rib. She has a level topline and short coupled, she was carrying a little weight on the day but she moved well around the ring.

JUNIOR BITCH

1st NEROTORO AZ BAD AZ I WANNA BE

Lovely head shape with good cheek bumps, good stop, correct bite with good amount of underjaw, well placed ears and dark round eyes all which gave her the desired expression, she had a straight front, tight well padded feet, enough depth of brisket, good amount of rib, level topline standing and on the move, short in loin, nicely muscled rear end with good angulations and well let down at the hock, she was shown in excellent condition and moved and handled well.

2nd NEROTORO BUTTON BOOTZ

I’m not surprised to see these 2 are litter sisters,... I just liked how 1st was a shade shorter in loin, but pretty much everything I’ve written above applies to this girl too, she has a very nice expression, lovely shaped head and was also shown in excellent condition, she was handled very well and moved around the ring with purpose.

1st ELLCHANSHA ONCE UPON A TIME

This girl caught my eye as soon as she came into the ring, she has a beautiful expression, her head is very nicely shaped, correct bite with good amount of underjaw, good depth throughout with a good stop, dark round eyes, nicely placed ears and she was keen and alert at all times, she has a strong muscular neck, well laid shoulders, good front, good spring of rib and short coupled, her well muscled rear end is also nicely angulated and she’s well let down at the hocks, her topline was level standing and as she moved, she was shown in excellent condition, I think the best is yet to come from her and she will have plenty of good days ahead.

2nd JECANIBOS HAKUNA MATATA

Another that was showing in excellent condition, good shaped head with good stop, dark round eyes, correct bite, her ears are placed a little high but this didn’t distract from a very nice expression, well boned straight front, her feet where tight and well padded and turned out slightly at the pasterns. Good topline, good spring of rib and short coupled, good rear end. She moved and was handled well.

Nicely shaped head good stop, dark round ears and good ear set, correct bite, nice feminine expression, nicely bodied for her age but still plenty of maturing to do for this girl, She has enough depth of brisket and rib for her age, good topline, short coupled and well muscled rear end, she moved well up and down the mat and was handled well.

2nd HAMASON BELLE O'THE BALL

Another with a clean feminine head, good expression, good bite, dark round eyes, good ear placement, correct bite, good bone and substance, nice depth of brisket and good rib, level topline stacked and on the move, she was a tad longer in loin than 1st but she had a good well muscled rear, Moved and handled well

Nicely balanced, with good head shape, good stop, round dark eye, good ear placement, correct bite, very nice expression, she had a good front which was straight and well boned, ok depth of brisket, ok for rib, good topline, short coupled with good rear angulation, she was shown in good condition and moved and handled well.

Strong girl but a beautiful head shape and very nice expression which she used to her advantage, she has powerful cheek bumps good stop, nicely placed small rose ears and dark round eyes, she has a correct bite with huge canines and good sized incisors which seems to be lacking in some these days. She has a good spring of rib, short coupled and good rear end, She is bodying up well for her age but needs a tad more just to balance out but I’m sure this will come with maturity. Moved and handled well.

1st MAXSTA SPARKLING SHOES FOR GINSTEAN

This girl was full of the joys! She made her handler work hard but I loved her character! She has a powerful head, good deep stop with dark round eyes, small well placed ears, correct bite with good underjaw, and very nice expression, short compact neck, good front angulations, nice depth of brisket, straight well boned front, good amount of rib, short coupled her topline was level standing and on the move, she was shown in decent condition I’m sure if she was that bit tighter she will have plenty more good days ahead, just needs a bit of work on the ring craft side of things.

2nd MAXSTAFF MISS WHIZZ

This girl was also impressive, she had a well shaped head, good stop, dark eyes, correct bite with good underjaw, I would just like her a tad cleaner in the head, she has a short compact neck, straight well boned front which leads down to tight well padded feet, good depth of brisket and spring of rib, level topline, she was handled well and moved well.

1st ILLORI BOOTIE LUV

This girl is very well balanced, she is strong yet feminine, Her head is deep throughout, correct bite with plenty of underjaw & big cheek bumps, she has a good stop, good muzzle to skull ratio, small rose ears which where well placed, dark round eyes which she used to follow me around the ring, her expression is keen & alert taking everything in, she has a short muscular compact neck which leads to well laid shoulders, good well boned straight front which had good width and good depth of brisket, she had tight well padded feet, she had a lovely spring of rib, short coupled and her rear was well angulated and well let down at the hocks and also well muscled which gave her drive while moving up and down the mat she had a level topline stacked and on the move, her condition is a credit to her owner she fits her skin well, she showed herself off well in the final line up and her condition is what helped clinch the RCC she also went RBIS on agreement with my co judge.

2nd KINGS & QUEENS OVER THE MOON

Another decent bitch that was shown in good condition, she has a nice shaped head with good deep stop, dark round eyes, nice small rose ears which where well placed, correct bite with good underjaw, good front, nice spring of rib, she was a tad longer in loin than 1st, good well muscled rear and moved and shown well.

This class had some quality bitches I feel lucky to have got to put my hands on, I’m sure I could judge it again on a different day and the placements could easily change!

1st Te Ora Magic Eclipse

This girl to me is what a Stafford bitch is all about!

She is strong and powerful yet feminine, she so well balanced with just the correct amount of bone & substance, her head is strong yet clean it is deep throughout with a deep stop, large cheek bumps, good muzzle to skull ratio, correct bite , good under jaw and cheek bumps with plenty of fill under her dark round eyes, small well placed rose ears and an expression to die for, her short compact neck leads down to well placed shoulders, good depth of brisket, well boned straight front with tight well padded feed, and when you look down from above she has an excellent spring of rib which tapers into a short loin which was well tucked up, her rear was rippling with muscle and was well angulated and let down at the hocks, she was on her toes at all times, which made her a challenge for her handler, but he managed to just about hang onto her and she showed herself off well when stacked, but was more of a challenge on the move full of spirt which is what I like to see but she did settle to allow me to access her movement, she was shown in fit hard condition hard to the touch whereever I placed my hands which is what is needed when challenging for top honours and I was pleased to award her the CC & BIS with my co judges agreement. All the best for number 3!

2nd CH TILLCAR BAPTISM OF FIRE

What can be said about this girl that hasn’t been said before, she is pure class, her head and expression is to die for, good stop and good depth throughout, tiny small rose ears, dark round eyes, which follow your every move, correct bite with plenty of under jaw, she is also very well balanced, good amount of bone and substance, good depth of brisket, straight well boned front which leads to tight well padded feet,she has short compact neck which leads down to well laid shoulders, good spring of rib, level topline, short coupled, well angulated rear end, well let down at the hocks, moved and handled very well.
