The Southern Dandie Dinmont Championship Show 22/9/2019

I would like to thank The Officers & Committee for inviting me to judge this celebratory 90th Anniversary Championship Show. This was my first time awarding C.C.s in this breed & felt very honoured to be offered a breed club show.I was thrilled to draw an excellent entry for the club & Thank You to all who brought dogs for me to judge today. The atmosphere was friendly & relaxed & professionally organised to the last detail. Well done to you all & I wish you all the very best for the future. Special thanks to my 2 very efficient stewards for keeping the running of the ring smooth & effective.

My general observations were that the breed characteristics are being maintained by a dedicated small band of breeders & exhibitors. All dogs were in healthy condition & the majority were presented to perfection. Sadly I did find one undershot jaw & one monorchid dog. I did note a large variation in size in the breed but pleasingly most heads were typical of the breed standard along with eye & ear sets. Some tails are getting longer than desired & this needs watching.
