Leeds City & District Canine Association

Breed: Utility Group

Many thanks to Leeds officers and committee for inviting me to judge the Utility Group and BIS at their first All Breed Show. As usual at this show, careful planning and management made the show run to perfection and all groups, veteran and puppy groups were complete in excellent time every day. Even some heavy rain on the middle day did not interrupt the smooth running of the day. Exhibitors are unaware of the enormous amount of work that goes in to making a show like this run like clockwork and serious congratulations to all.

The Utility Group was reasonably strong and after an initial examination of a complete group I pulled for further consideration the powerful Akita, with good head, exc ears, firm topline, exc tail and coat. The young Boston Terrier who excels in outline in profile standing and moving. Japanese Shiba Inu, exc coat, colour and texture. Exc eye shape, ears, well filed H front and exc tail. The Tibetan Terrier, whom I loved his square sturdy body, exc neck, topline, well sprung rib cage and correct feet.

Dog

Have only seen this dog from a distance before and not really paid attention to his quality and excellence. I have watched and studied the breed with interest since they first arrived in the country. The quality that has been maintained as a whole is a credit to the dedicated breeders and exhibitors. This dog fulfils the standard in every department. Correct proportions, balance, outline. Medium sized and moderate in every department. Slightly off square, correct wedge head of correct strength and proportion with the slightest of stop, with oval dark eye, triangular ear. Correct neck medium length but long enough to use it to arch into well laid shoulder, perfect topline and tail and correct rear with moderate angulation. No matter when the dog stopped he always stood four square and on the move he is faultless and never put a foot wrong with excellent foot placement and balance in his stride, holding his outline at all times.

FRENCH BULLDOG

Dog

Well known dog that I awarded his first CC to as a puppy and he has gone on to fulfil that early promise by amassing a large collection of CC, groups wins and placings. He has excellent proportions. Masc with no coarseness, exc ears with good depth and width to chin. Correct topline, balanced front and rear resulting in typical movement that two tracks, has the correct roll and covers correct amount of ground whilst maintaining good width in front

LHASA APSO

Bitch

Very typical black bitch. The colour does not lend itself to looking obviously glamorous so you have to look carefully through the colour. Her outline is classic. Her head is so pretty, exc expression and falls away behind the eye. Exc neck, topline and ribbing. In exc body condition, with correct coat. She moved so typically when settled and even in typical Lhasa fashion put the brakes on a couple of times but always picked up and got going again.

POODLE (MINIATURE)

Bitch

Very feminine and her behaviour is very poodly. Square with good leg length. Good head, expression, neck and firm topline, with just a slight give to allow the correct neck carriage. Very up and light footed with drive from the rear that gave a balanced picture both standing and moving.
