Thank you all, for bringing your fabulous quality goldens, always an absolute honour to judge our lovely breed. Great atmosphere.

And here’s my usual pre-amble: Why do some judges determine their final places by only assessing front and rear movement on the rerun?

Final Places MUST be decided by critically assessing PROFILE movement, where you can see everything that is important: Balance, Soundness, Attitude, Head Carriage, Topline, Tail Set and Carriage, Drive and Reach, Muscle Tone and Condition. These points cannot be seen by just standing at one side of the ring and watching the dog come back and forth to you. And your final placings cannot be steered to the stacked dog with the clever handler.

I had dogs today whose handlers did not always present the best of outlines on the stack, but whose superb movement decided the placings, and conversely dogs that presented a stunning outline on the stack but whose movement let them down on the day, some just having an ‘I don’t want to move day!’, but some due to weight or lacking in muscular condition causing rolling (clearly seen in profile), which is acceptable in a young dog but not in the higher classes.

MINOR PUPPY BITCH (9 Entries, 0 Absent) 1ST Catterall Mr B & Jackson Mr M GOLMAS GOODNESS GRACIOUS   Super quality pup, full of fun, never stopped wagging, so I caught her best attributes in between her having a good time! Lovely head shape. Very well constructed, 4 square balance, super angles, great reach of neck, and with enough length of leg. Looks great just free-standing. Moved true and level with good drive. 

2ND Neil Miss M MOLOKO AM I BOVVERED   Beautifully made, and superbly presented and handled. Very elegant, clean, totally balanced outline, true and straight from all angles, well up on her pasterns. Strong neck flowing into well laid back shoulders. Super topline which she held on the move, excellent profile reach and good drive from strong rear quarters.

PUPPY BITCH (9 Entries, 0 Absent) 1ST Birkin-Green Mrs S SANSUE LOVESTRUCK     Hard decision between 1 and 2, preferred 2 on the stack, 1 was lovely to go over, but her stand-in handler wasn’t standing her to advantage in the class. But decision made on the profile move where her movement was breathtaking, she carried herself so well, showing off her elegant construction with long reach, great drive, correct head carriage, level topline. BEST PUPPY AND GUNDOG PUPPY GROUP 3. 

2ND Clarkson Mrs FM DRUMKILTY ON IMPULSE     Fabulous construction, so balanced and not overdone in any way. Great substance, depth of rib, short couplings, lovely coat, melting expression. This one looked superb on the stack and was nearly my clear winner. Moved really well, just marginally pipped to the post. 

3RD Falconer Mrs AE ROSSGILDE MY FAIR LADY OF SIATHAM

JUNIOR BITCH (15 Entries, 7 Absent) 1ST Hill Miss P & Smith Mr D MEGARVEY SANTORINI JW Beautifully handled and presented, showing good attitude. Excellent substance, fantastic outline, so very well balanced, great depth and spring of rib, short couplings, strong neck leading into solid topline. Lovely head. Strong rear quarters. Moved very well, showing excellent sidegait.

2ND Birkin-Green Mrs S SANSUE KEEP THE FAITH    Lots to like, looks exactly as she should do at this age. Very sweet head, clean outline not overdone in any way. So balanced and true from all angles. Moved very stylishly and correctly. 

3RD Gowland Miss PA & Gibbons Mr PF TAMARA VON SCHNELLENBERG FOR REMINGTON (IMP DEU) .

YEARLING BITCH (18 Entries, 3 Absent) 1ST Clarkson Mrs FM GLITTERS RAINBOW OVER DRUMKILTY (IMP BEL) JW    Lovely quality, strongly made, super clean outline, with everything flowing perfectly. Balanced front and rear, levelest of toplines. Straight and true from all angles. In glamorous coat today she was superbly shown and presented in rock hard, top muscular condition enabling her to cover the ground with great drive, no hint of roll, head held high with excellent level topline and tail carriage. Pleased to award her the RCC. 

2ND Douthwaite Miss AM & Wharfe Miss SM GRACEWOOD NIGHT FEVER Such a fabulous quality bitch, great outline, substance, muscle tone, shown in superb muscular condition, and beautifully presented coat. Beautiful head with darkest of pigment… clean, reachy neck into levelest of toplines. Moved really well with great drive, and so unlucky to meet 1.

 2ND Douthwaite Miss AM & Wharfe Miss SM GRACEWOOD MAKENZIE    Superb outline bitch, excellent angled quarters both ends, short coupled and in great coat. Beautifully handled and presented. Her strong powerful condition allowed her to power round the ring with great reach and drive and displaying great attitude. 

3RD Foster Mr B & Mrs C MOCKINGJAY V D CORNER BROOK TO AURISTELA (IMP NLD) JW .

POSTGRADUATE BITCH (18 Entries, 3 Absent) 1ST Garget Ms F & Morriss Mr P LINIRGOR TEASEL AND TWEED TO GARVIN   Super class of high-quality bitches. This one free-standing, she says it all. No fiddling required! She just drops her legs in all the right places and proves her correct construction. A pleasure to watch when they look like they are really enjoying their day. Great substance and muscle tone under thick, dense, glamorous double coat. Lovely head and great attitude. Looked very eye catching on the move showing style and attitude. 

2ND Youngson Mrs DA LINIRGOR TEACHERS PET AT TREEVEVILLE JW   Sister of the above, very different and I am not talking colour, that is irrelevant. She is again superb quality and presented a very balanced outline, with a lovely feminine head and kind expression, good length of muscular neck into strong level topline. Balanced angles fore and rear. She moved round the ring with great style, drive and displaying excellent level topline

MID LIMIT BITCH (9 Entries, 3 Absent) 1ST Jones Mrs VE & Athey Mrs BE NINELL GWENDOLYN    Well this was my ‘Wow’ bitch. She has it all: Conformation, Attitude, Balance, Movement.   Such a beautiful bitch, so well-constructed, excelled in overall balance and superb outline. Not exaggerated in any way. Superb feminine head, with lovely smiling expression, displaying lovely temperament, well arched neck flowing into correct level topline and tailset. Good forechest, strong bone. Outline was textbook. She moved superbly, viewed from all angles, showing her hard muscular condition. She powered round the ring holding her head high, displaying excellent reach and drive, level topline and tail carriage. I was so pleased to award her the CC hoping that if she got BOB she would be a great ambassador for our breed in the Group Ring. 

2ND Lewis Mrs S & Miss M LOVEHAYNE BIJOU AMONG FAIRWINDS JW   Another lovely bitch, who I have admired from the ringside, unlucky to meet 1 today. Superb head proportions and expression. Great reach of clean neck into super level topline and tail set. Excellent forechest with very balanced angulation front and rear. She moved with great style and drive viewed from all angles, maintaining a level topline and tail carriage.

Lovely head and melting expression. Presented a gorgeous outline, naturally stood into herself so well. Great reach of clean muscular neck, well laid-back shoulder into strong, level, short coupled topline. Very balanced angles front and rear. Today shown in gleaming full coat and excellent muscular condition which powered her round the ring with great drive, super head carriage and level topline. 

2ND Maddison Mrs J JAYMARDY HIDDEN SECRET JW ShCM Lovely quality well boned bitch showing off her attributes very well. Lovely head and sweet expression. Great reach of muscular neck. Short coupled, level topline, excellent forechest and balanced angles. She was a great mover and covered the ground with style and drive.

OPEN BITCH (10 Entries, 2 Absent) 1ST Hill Miss P & Smith Mr D SH CH MEGARVEY ONCE UPON A TIME JW   Headed a fabulous class of Top-Notch bitches. She really is such superb top quality. Lovely to go over, every part flowing seamlessly into the next. Excels in balance and moderation, no part overdone. Beautiful head with strength and soft gentle expression. On the move she was stunning, with effortless movement she streamed round the ring. 

2ND Clarkson Mrs FM CH DRUMKILTY HIBERNIA JW   Such a close decision between 1 and 2. Fabulous worthy champion shown in rock hard condition, you don’t have to feel for muscles, you can see them. Presents a superb outline, well boned with balanced front and rear angles with no exaggerations, just as it should be. Good length of leg to produce the ideal shape, nearer to a square than a long rectangle. She had very sound, effortless movement, and handled to perfection as usual. 

3RD Griggs Mrs J MULFIELD PEACH BLOSSOM JW ShCM

VETERAN BITCH (7 Entries, 1 Absent) 1ST Tuck Mrs P TAMSBROOK TIMOTAE   Always loved this super girl, today in superb condition and gleaming coat, not looking anywhere near like a Veteran. So very balanced, just dropped into her shape naturally, looks superb viewed from any angle. She covered the ground so stylishly. Her sidegait displaying excellent reach, head held high, displaying rock solid topline and tail carriage 

2ND Willmitt Mrs JA STANROPH SAIL IN TIME TO GOLDENMILL (AI)   I remember photographing her Dad 29 years ago, and she really is her father’s daughter! In superb condition for her nearly 9 years, great muscletone and not carrying any excessive weight Lovely attitude, very balanced outline, she really moved beautifully and effortlessly round the ring.

SPECIAL BEGINNERS BITCH (9 Entries, 1 Absent) 1ST Booth Mr G & Mrs JF ROCAMOKA WIND DREAMER   Super quality bitch, looking exactly right for her 2 years. So very balanced, good bone, straight when viewed from front and rear. Excellent forechest and corresponding front and rear angulation. Beautiful head and expression, muscular lengthy neck into good layback and level topline with short-couplings. Great show attitude powered her round the ring with style and drive which she did in the Sp. Beginners Group and won Group 2. 

2ND Shepherd Mrs T PARLICKVIEW MAGGIE MAY   So very similar in body proportions to 1, but with a different head type, still very gentle and appealing. Lovely clean outline, nothing hidden. Textbook example of correct body proportional balance. Corresponding angulation front and rear, not overdone. Super length of strong neck. Dead level topline and short coupled. Moved out well with reach from the front and drive from behind and showed a good length of stride in profile.
