GORDON SETTERS
It was a privilege to judge such a quality entry of this lovely breed. There were some beautiful classes where I could have done with more red cards.
Veteran D/B (8, 1)
1. Robson, Sh Ch Laurelhach Limited Edition At Yohenoak D, aptly named as there are not many like him.! Much the soundest and most stylish mover in this class, beautifully made with correct outline, super head, excellent neck and shoulders, great depth to body and good rib development. A decent size, filled my eye, at nine years he is still a force to be reckoned with as only just passing his prime in this late maturing breed. In excellent condition and well handled. He is a credit to his owners and breeder. Best Veteran.
2. Sandiford & Lewis ,Sh Ch Hernwood Calypso Goddess B, beautifully presented and in great condition, lovely head and eye, pleasing neck and shoulders, very close up but just preferred the front movement and overall outline of the winner.
3. Johnston & Johnston, Laurelhach Lightning at Glenquin, B.
Minor Puppy D (2)
1. Halliday Yennadon Barra, well made and promising 7 ½ mths youngster, has all the essentials, and with maturity should have a bright future. Pleasing head and expression, good body properties, moved soundly with great composure once he settled. Best Puppy Dog and beat his litter sister for Best Puppy.
2. Beese, Hernwood Xmas Drummer at Ashheys, just 6 mths, has some quality and a certain style but needing a lot more time to mature and some practice to hone his craft.
Puppy D (3)
1. Yennadon Barra
2. Bastable, Locksheath Spark in the Dark, 11 mths, not the body development of 1, good outline and shown in good condition, very attractive head, moved OK but lacked animation.
3. Hernwood Xmas Drummer at Ashheys.
Junior (3)
1. Britton, Graylacier Classic Design, 14 mths of true Gordon type and soundest mover in the class, excellent body properties, very pleasing head and expression, correct symmetrical outline and in lovely condition, handler just needs to gain more confidence in order to present him to full advantage.
2. Sandiford & Sutherland, Harbingers Highland Treasure, of similar age and beautifully presented in excellent condition, well made but head rather too fine for me and not the front movement of the winner.
3. Cops & Whiting, Locksheath Black Ice.
Yearling (6)
1. Horler, Hernwood Jack O’Lantern by Rackens JW, beautiful head, upstanding lad with excellent body properties, pleasing outline and tail carriage, well handled and shown in good coat and condition, moved very soundly with dignity and style, once fully mature should be one to be reckoned with.
2. Graylacier Classic Design
3. Roberts & Roberts Cairacaillie Spice of Life JW.
Post Graduate (7,1)
1. Bryant Kilnrae Hallmark JW, lovely head with pleasing eye and expression, nicely constructed, but would prefer a slightly more level finish over pelvis and croup, well handled and shown in good condition, moved very soundly with animation and style.
2. Fuller Rosemullion Braganza, of similar type, excellent outline and shown in good condition, slightly lighter in eye and not the head or movement of 1.
3. Glaysher, Amscot Royal Purple of Billingham.
Limit (10) Quality in depth here.
1. Sandiford, Hernwood Neptune Sea, beautiful head and eye shape, excellent outline with neck fitting smoothly in to shoulders and good tail carriage, decent size and in excellent coat and condition, moved soundly and stylishly with true ground covering action.
2. Horler, Kintalis Winter’s Knight by Rackens JW, close up with good outline and clean in neck, pleasing throughout with no exaggerations, would have preferred a little more extension and drive on the move and not quite the head of 1.
3. Tye, Kyuna Olympic Arrow of Tymora.
Open (8) A really lovely class
1. Boxall, Sh Ch Ludstar Frederick Frankenstein, in this slow maturing breed, here came the full package at it’s very finest, at 7 years a true Gordon full of quality and class, beautiful balanced head and dark eye, clean neck fitting smoothly in to well laid shoulders, superb clean and symmetrical outline, great depth to body and full rib development, excellent finish to pelvis and croup, super hindquarters, wide and well made without any exaggerations, moved soundly and stylishly with economic ground covering action, shown in terrific condition, with clean markings, all of this is topped with that rare ‘sprinkling of stardust’ that turns a really good dog into a truly great dog. My pleasure to award him the CC & BOB and delighted to see him win Gundog Group 4.
2. Butler, Sh Ch Yennadon Lochan at Rubymoon JW, close up, neatly made and a very sound and free mover, clean outline and shown in good coat and condition, pleasing head and overall type, I would like a bit more of him all over, but do appreciate that his breeding is aimed at maintaining dual purpose, pleasure to award him Reserve CC.
3. Bryant, Muckypups D’Artagnan JW.
Good Citizen D/B (5, 1)
1. Mitchell, Roydack Ruby Hidden Gem at Brobruick JW, 3 yrs D shown in super condition, pleasing head and eye, correct clean outline and all necessary attributes, sound true mover.
2. Collingborn, Graylacier Celtic Angel at Pollyspark, 3 yrs B, correct outline and has many admirable qualities, shown in good coat and condition, moved OK.
3. Norman & Robertson, Yennadon Killachy.
Minor Puppy B (2)
1. Ackerley-Kemp, Yennadon Gigha, 7 ½ mths, mature for her tender age ,moved very well with pleasing head, outline and tail carriage, has all the essentials, just needs to mature along the same lines, very promising, Best Bitch Puppy but her brother was more composed today..
2. Sandiford, Hernwood Christmas Eve, 6 mths, moved very well for such a baby, of very different type to 1, much lighter build and finer in head and bone.
Puppy (2)
1. Yennadon Gigha
2. Hernwood Christmas Eve
Junior (4)
1. Reid, Diersett Irridium, 14 mths, shown in excellent condition, pleasing balanced head with super eye and expression, great depth to body with lots to like and good overall outline, but would prefer a more level finish over pelvis and croup, moved very soundly with freedom and style.
2. Hall , Melview Phoenix, very attractive with pleasing head and eye, good outline and feet, not quite the movement of 1.
3. Whiting, Locksheath Princess Tiana.
Yearling (6,2)
1. Johnston & Johnston , Glenquin Phoenix, really fell for this one, classy and with super outline and wide quarters, lovely balanced head and good eye, excellent body and depth yet maintaining a certain elegance, well handled and shown in great condition, sound and free mover, once fully mature will be one to watch, as she also has the ‘stardust’ .
2. Diersett Irridium
3. Locksheath Princess Tiana.
Post Graduate (8,2)
1. Marsh , Lignum Black Lightning at Kilnrae, 2 yrs with lovely head and eye, standing on good limbs with decent body properties, though obviously still needs to mature a bit, clean over shoulder and moved really soundly covering plenty of ground, shown in good condition, well handled.
2. Ackerley-Kemp, Yennadon Glenlossie, another in super condition, a very true mover and close up to 1, just not so clean over shoulder and would prefer a shade darker eye.
3. Rand, Hernwood Summer Eclipse at Kintalis.
Limit (10, 3)
1. Hope & Kane, Sangafild Light My Fire for Jenesta, very feminine yet true Gordon head with dark eye, excellent mover, shown in good condition with really all to like about her, at 3 years still needs some maturity yet, but I will watch her career with interest.
2. Ackerley-Kemp, Yennadon Reiver, congratulations to this exhibitor, her dogs all appealed, this one also shown in great condition, moved really soundly with freedom and style, well marked, with balanced outline, very close up, just preferred the eye of 1.
3. Beese, Lainnireach Liberty Bell at Ashheys.
Open (6)
1. Sweryda, Graylacier Genevieve at Waseley JW, just coming to her best, a true old type Gordon girlie, of good size with pleasing overall symmetrical shape, very attractive head and eye, clean neck fitting smoothly in to well laid shoulders, wide and powerful quarters with good tail carriage, excellent depth to body and width to rib cage, nothing exaggerated about her, sound and stylish mover covering plenty of ground on an economical stride with great dignity, just coming back in to coat, but this did not detract as she was in great condition, Delighted to award her 2nd CC. Hope she does not have to wait too long for her third.
2. Justice, Sh Ch Liric Nostalgia, has a lovely head and eye, great tan and shown in super condition, a close decision here, but she is quite a bit younger and I just preferred the overall body properties and the very free ground covering movement of 1. Reserve CC.
3. Collins-Pitman Sh Ch Amscot Love Is In The Air.
