Bournemouth Ch Show

10th August 2019

Tibetan Mastiff

I was delighted to be invited to judge at this super show. What a fantastic new layout. Well done team Bournemouth! This is a fabulous breed and I was very much looking forward to judging them here. Having attended a super breed appreciation day and passed the breed assessment this year, I was very interested to see what this entry would present. As it was, a small entry awaited. All were of wonderful temperament and  presented in lovely condition and coped with the tricky conditions so well.

Junior Dog/Bitch (1)

1st: Perkins Callowdale Harisch. A young dog with bundles of maturing to do but shows great potential. Eye catching and already looking powerful for age. Bottom end of standard size wise. He presents a very nice picture. Head developing well with defined occiput and stop. Skull proportions correct. Broad muzzle. Like his dignified expression. Very well put together with well laid shoulder and good return to upper arm. Slightly longer than tall in body. Ribs set back far enough. Topline level and firm. Good turn of stifle. Bone ok for age. Light and free side movement. Will watch his progress with interest. BD and BOB

Post Graduate D/B (2)

1st Perkins Callowdale Hermione. A well presented young bitch. Very immature. I felt her head shape and outline a tad Newfoundland like, but I would say her colouring does not help. She is young a bitch with lots of maturing to do. Head is broad enough and muzzle is wide and square. Eyes of correct shape. Not quite as aloof in expression as her brother in the previous class. Very well angulated fore and aft. Bone needs to develop on. Topline firm. Moved with a nice stride. In excellent condition.

2nd: Sampson’s Dokhyi Tibet Gyalpo Chi An. Not as well balanced or finished as 1st. I’d say this boy is rather lighter in bone than what I look for in a male. Eyes were of good shape but quite pale which gave him a slightly less Tibetan expression. Head could have more width. Neck slightly arched. Moderate lay to shoulders. Just off square in outline. Rather straight in stifles. Totally out of coat on the day. Moved soundly.

Open Dog (1)

1st: Perkins’ Callowdale Harrisch

Limit Bitch (2)

1st Halls’ Heronsview Eloise. A nice bitch who certainly hid nothing on the day. Typical head. Broad enough in skull and muzzle, but feminine, and certainly aloof. Muzzle slightly less in length than stop to occiput. Pronounced occiput. Eyes medium in size. Tad light in colour. Triangular ears which were set about right. Slight arch to neck. Well laid shoulders. Good width and depth to chest. Well ribbed back. Topline firm. Enough bone for a bitch. Moderate turn to stifles. Low set hocks. Tail set and carriage good. Moved with a nice stride and very soundly. BB
