Cocker Spaniel Club Of Lancashire

Breed: Spaniel (Cocker)

Cocker Club of Lancashire Ch Show AUGUST 10TH 2019

COCKER BITCHES

I very much enjoyed judging bitches at the Cocker Club of Lancashire Ch Show. Thanks to the committee for their lavish hospitality and to my 2 hardworking stewards and of course the exhibitors for their entries.

As always with any breed there will be a few different types, but I found this entry to be a lot more consistent in size and type than many I have judged worldwide. There are plenty of promising youngsters and some that will do better on another day. I was impressed with the clean heads, correct eye shape and the bone and feet on the exhibits. Almost all had weatherproof coats and most were sound merry movers.

In the CC line up, the deal breakers were: - strength of foreface and muzzle, strength of topline and length of body. The winners excelled in this respect being sound, compact and fit for function.

BLACK/BLACK AND TAN/LIVER/GOLDEN

SPECIAL NOVICE BITCH (3)

1ST HEBDENE HARBOUR LIGHTS (KENGYELICS)

Red, mature and balanced with a good outline and correct breed type. Feminine chiseled head but with strength. Good neck with very pleasing shoulders, well developed chest with plenty of substance. Lovely bone and feet. Short coupled, well boned and strong quarters. Well presented in lovely coat. Just need to settle on the move.

2ND TOTENKOPF MIRROR SCRY (FLOWERS) black of good type, balanced and compact, good head, has adequate chest but preferred that of winner. Lovely bone and feet. Moved well.

3RD LUDZSKA LUCCIA

SPECIAL GRADUATE BITCH (3)

1ST GRANDTULLY ELIZA DOLITTLE (MCCABE-BELL) sweet, typy black bitch, well made with a balanced outline. Good head, strong but feminine with lovely expression. Sensible reach of neck going into good shoulders, well bodied and ribbed well up. Strong topline and good quarters. Good bone and tight feet. Moved merrily in this class. Correctly presented in good coat.

2ND KASTRIAN ILLUMINATION (ROBERTSON) pretty Red, another typy girl, lovely correctly balanced outline. Feminine head and appealing expression. Extremely well angled shoulder and upper arm. Well off for rib. Rather soft in quarters and not quite so strong in front pasterns as winner. Happy mover. Well prepared and sensible amount of coat.

3RD CHARBONNEL CLARETTE WITH CARHOWEL (WELCH)

 SPECIAL OPEN BITCH (2, 1)

1ST SH CH LUJESA MAGIC TOUCH AT CLASSICWAY (DARBY) balanced and feminine black, lovely head and expression, excelled in front and shoulders with really tight elbows. Scores in legs and feet. Good topline, well ribbed with strong quarters and well set tail. One of the most correctly presented here. In a well contested bitch line CC up where I was splitting hairs, I would have preferred her to have a smoother neckline and slightly less length.

ANY OTHER COLOUR THAN BLACK/BLACK AND TAN/LIVER/GOLDEN SPECIAL NOVICE BITCH (3,1)

1ST PRINCEHILL SHINING STAR (HILL) a hugely happy B/W bitch. Sweet head that’s well balanced with nice expression. Good outline and enough substance through body, with well sprung ribs. Good bone and feet. Well developed quarters. In lovely coat. Moved well once she settled!

2ND ALISMA AMIABLE (CRAIG) B/R feminine head and nice expression. Good bone and topline and lovely bone and feet. Strong topline and in good coat. Would prefer a more pleasing neck set and better angled quarters.

SPECIAL GRADUATE BITCH (4,2) closely contested class.

1ST PENDLEDELL ALICE BLUE GOWN (HENDERSON) pleasant headed light blue, compact shape with a correct topline, good bone and feet. Shown in lovely coat. Ground covering merry mover. Tends to stand herself in an A Frame when stacked.

2ND JENNOBAR A TOUCH OF MAGIC (MORRIS) lots to like about this lovely headed blue, good body, good topline and plenty of bone. Just preferred the cobbiness of winner and today she was moving wide in front.

SPECIAL OPEN BITCH (3)

1ST BROACHDALE MINERVA BLUE (HEWSON) this blue caught my eye straightaway for her strength, type and all round cockeriness. Well balanced head, good expression, super neck and shoulders, strong ribs and powerful muscular quarters. In very fit condition and well presented correct coat. Shortlisted for the CC.

2ND OLIBOND SUNSHINE GIRL AT PRINCEHILL (HILL) very pretty and typy Orange roan. Feminine chiseled head although I would like more strength to muzzle. Sweet expression. Lovely neck and shoulders, good topline, well angled quarters. In lovely coat. Moved well and very happily! Not quite the feet of winner.

3RD GLANTRAETH TIME TO DREAM (HUGHES)

ANY COLOUR VETERAN BITCH (2,1)

1ST ANNASIDE MOONBEAM (DAVIES) pretty blue, well made typical all through. Nice feminine head good neck and shoulders, correct topline and tailset. Good bone and feet. Well presented. Moved happily.

MINOR PUPPY BITCH (8) several of these minor and puppy bitches were quite exciting!

1ST PEARKIM PRUNELLA DARGESS (BECQUET/DARBY) cracking blue puppy, full of breed type - just about ticks every box! Sweet head and expression, with plenty of width and depth with good foreface but still feminine. Strong neck of good length, fitting smoothly into very well laid shoulders. Super front with plenty of bone and lovely well padded feet. Well angled quarters with good second thigh and short strong rear pasterns. Her movement was merry and extremely sound. Well prepared and correct coat. Best Puppy in show and CC shortlist.

2ND ZIENNES SWEET CHEEKS (STEELE) another high quality blue puppy bitch that scores in breed type. Good head and soft appealing expression, excellent front assembly, good topline and strong quarters. Her body is a lovely shape with plenty of substance. Well presented coat. Sound and happy mover.

2ND TOTENKOPF MIRROR SCRY (FLOWERS)

3RD BRUXLY BOOT SCOOT N’BOOGJE (JENKINS)

JUNIOR BITCH (6,1)

1ST HEBDENE HARBOUR NIGHTS (KENGYELICS) an exciting young bitch, very hard to fault. Classic black, beautiful head and eye, lovely expression, good reach of neck flowing into well angled neck and shoulders. Strong compact body with good tailset. The best of bone and feet. Moved freely and happily with style and extreme soundness. Flawlessly prepared with no excess coat anywhere. RES CC in a lovely line up.

2ND PRINCEHILL SHINING STAR (HILL)

3RD TROVEROTHWAY WATER COLOUR (CORCARAN)

YEARLING BITCH (4,1)

1ST SHAREMEAD BRICABRAC (SHARE-JONES) very typical blue with a correct outline. Really liked her head, strong with plenty of work in it but still feminine. Has a winter nose which detracted from what would usually be a lovely expression, but this is only cosmetic. Good neck and well placed shoulders, strong compact body and great bone and feet. Scores in hindquarters. Very sound mover. In lovely coat.

2ND TROVEROTHWAY TIGER LILY (CORCARAN) pretty headed black with a pleasing shape. Correct length of neck, compact body, nicely angulated hindquarters. Proper weatherproof coat. Good bone and feet. Not quite as good in substance as winner, and today was slightly proud of her tail.

3RD SHANAUDVARN DOTTYS DELIGHT (VARNAM)

MAIDEN BITCH (4,2)

1st ANNILAN MISS MAGICSTAR AT BECKABY (DRIVER) absolutely gorgeous blue baby, just 6 months. Very typy and well balanced. Sweet feminine head and lovely expression, clean reachy neck, very good topline and tailset. Good bone and feet. Super mover, merry and ground covering.

2ND PRINCEHILL SHINING STAR (HILL)

UNDERGRADUATE BITCH (3)

1ST CASADEPERROS OCTUBRE (SINCLAIR) very typical red bitch – very ‘old school” – nothing exaggerated including coat which was easy care and weatherproof. Sweet head with lovely expression, good front assembly with very pleasing neck set. Correct bone and tight well padded feet. Good quarters. Moved happily and was very sound out and back.

2ND SHANSART WIND IN THE WILLOWS blue, close up to winner. Pleasing head, very shapely outline, well angled, strong topline and super bone and feet. In good coat. Needs to tighten behind on the move.

3RD CHARBONNEL CLARETTE WITH CARHOWEL (WELCH)

POST GRADUATE BITCH (8)

1ST QUETTADENE TOUCH THE STARS JW (SHRINKFIELD/LESTER) smashing black bitch, compact outline, real cocker head and expression, plenty of substance and good angulation. Strong bone and well padded feet. Moved soundly and merrily with lovely carriage. Correctly presented in good coat.

2ND SHEIGRA SIMPLY A STAR (WEST) another quality black bitch. Close up to winner. Lovely outline, well balanced head, good reach of neck, strong topline, substantial body, liked her width of hindquarters. Bone and feet were copybook. Beautiful coat. Extremely sound on the move.

3RD SHAREMEAD BRICABRAC (SHARE-JONES)

SPECIAL BEGINNERS BITCH (1)

1ST ANNASIDE NEW MOON (NUTTER) pretty blue, correct breed type. Pleasing head, well made body with a strong topline and good quarters. In good coat, moved soundly.

LIMIT BITCH (9,1) a very competitive class.

1ST SHEIGRA STARS IN HER EYES (WEST) very smart and typical black of quality. Sweet feminine head and lovely expression. Correct front assembly with strong neck, set well into sloping shoulders. Plenty of rib, strong topline with good width and strength of quarters. Well boned with tight feet. In super coat. Like her kennel mate in the previous class, she was extremely sound.

2ND HELENWOOD ILLUSION JW (MARRIS BRAY) sweet black, close up to winner and one for the future. Balanced outline and very pleasing to go over. Lovely head and expression, excellent shoulders and upper arm, strong well made body with short loin. Correctly angled quarters. Good coat, just lacked the finish of winner.

3RD RIONDEL CARRIBEAN BLU (MORRIS)

OPEN BITCH (6)

1ST SH CH ANNILAN MISS ZING (WHITING) this blue had everything I was looking for in a cocker bitch! Such a lot of Cocker in a compact package. Lovely balanced head, feminine but with plenty of strength. Lovely expression. Decent length of neck with plenty of strength, flowing into well laid shoulders with really good upper arm. Plenty of rib, strong topline, well muscled quarters and a perfect tail set. Great bone and feet. Add to this that she’s a sound happy mover in super coat and you have the CC winner!

2ND SH CH WEYHILL WISH LIST (PARKER) quality black, pleasant head with sweet expression, plenty of neck flowing into a really impressive front assembly. Rear assembly was equally as good with correctly angled quarters and short rear pasterns. Has beautiful bone and well padded feet. Well presented coat. I just preferred the compactness of the winner.
