Saluki

Such a beautiful breed, there were quite a few variations in type and quality however I was pleased with the main winners and felt they were truly representative and could illustrate their conformation well with their effortless flowing light movement which I feel is so important in this type of hound. Thank you to everyone who made the journey to the show in the dreadful wet weather of the morning, it was very much appreciated, as was the friendliness of my two stewards, Janet & Ken. Thanks also to SWKA for the kind invitation.

1ST Ulyatt’s FERNLARK LEGEND OF CORNHAZE JW beautifully proportioned dark grizzle, lean in head with good pigment and attractive markings, well set ears with silky feathering, lovely length of neck to well-placed shoulders, good front set slightly back as it should be, clean bone, nice depth to body, strong over loin, moderately angled quarters, shown in superb bloom, moved well enough here, a very nice dog who should surely pick up some higher awards in the future.

2ND Goulden’s FERNLARK CELEBRATION, cream litter brother of similar proportions and very nice in head shape, good strong neck, had a good front well filled in, good depth & ribbing, liked his topline, moderate quarters, well set tail, just preferred the slightly better angulation of his brother and the cleaner movement. A very nice dog.

3rd Rabey-Wilkinson’s WAQIQ V ' T SWARTSHOF FOR GREATPLAINS (IMP NDL)

Entries: 5 Absentees: 1 this was a very nice class from first to last.

1ST Postma & Smith’s FERNLARK ODYSSEY JW, what a great start to the day to see this lovely young fawn/cream dog enter the ring. Such a lovely balance to him with no coarseness, from his elegant masculine head, gorgeous pigment and dark oval eyes giving great expression, well set ears well furnished with black fringes, good width on backskull, long strong neck highlighted by his white Irish marked collar into perfectly laid shoulder, good fill-in, deep chest, good cut up, ribbing well back to very strong broad muscled loin, good topline, moderately angled quarters & good second thigh, good tail set with plenty of feathering. His feet were of good length and his pasterns carried him around with lovely light easy action, eating up the ground with no effort at all. Still has a bit of maturing to finish him off but pleased to award him a second CC with BOB.

2ND Owen’s CARYNA KHEPRI beautiful outline on this black/cream, masculine lean head, very good length and strength of neck to excellent shoulder placement, good strong front, well filled in, strong clean bone, good feet, good depth & ribbing, nice slight rise over loin dropping to moderately angled quarters, good feathering and in good condition, moved well and covered the ground easily.

3rd Ulyatt’s FERNLARK L'AUNISIEN IN CORNHAZE

Entries: 4 Absentees: 1 – another good class, all very different and all very worthy Champions.

1ST Glaister’s Ch VANECHKA OTIS S BEREGA TURI (IMP RUS) JW SHCM black/cream of smaller & slightly more compact proportions, masculine in head, oval eye, strong neck to well-placed shoulder, clean bone, arched toes, excellent depth & ribbing, very firm loin rising very nicely and gently keeping his topline beautifully both on the stack and on the move, moderate angulation to quarters, good feathering, in rock hard condition, kept a strong steady light action around the ring, very well handled here today, Res.CC.

2nd Goulden’s CH FERNLARK BY DESIGN JW beautiful classy dog I have judged & done well before, lovely balance throughout, lean in head, good expression, reachy neck flowing into well laid shoulder, very good ribbing & depth, good in front, covers the ground well with nice light action but just lost topline going around. Very difficult decision between these two dogs today and just felt 1 had the edge by a whisker. Admire the consistency of quality from this kennel.

1ST Owen’s Ch CARYNA CURETES black/cream with good masculine head & nice expression, liked his overall conformation & excels in neck and shoulder placement, lovely depth & good in topline, held his outline well, very sound & steady moving dog worthy of his title.

2nd Jowitt’s TASIA MYSTIQUE UNDER BARLEYMOON pale fawn with lots to like about him, masculine with good pigment, dark eye & good expression, nice in backskull, feathered ears set well, reasonable length to neck, shoulders laid well, good depth & nice rise over loin, moderate quarters, nice feathering, slightly down on his feet which showed when he moved, however he covered the ground well enough, an elegant male.

1st Garratt & Oakey’s CARYNA REMENY tallish young tri-colour of appeal & very pleasing proportions, lean & feminine in head, good length of muzzle, neck flowing into her clean shoulder line, good front just right amount of width, good strong long feet, slope to pastern, body felt nice, good over topline, moderate quarters, needs a bit of time to develop - a nice prospect.

1ST Garratt & Oakey’s CARYNA ESPERANZA cream litter sister to previous class with the most fabulous outline, all fits well into place, hands just flow over her. Lovely dark pigment, good expression & attractive balance to her head. For her age she had super depth & held her elbows very nicely, good cut-up and nicely rising over loin, just the right amount of angulation. Would prefer slightly less weight on her but the more she moved she relaxed and the better she got, has great promise and although young, on the day she deserved Res.CC and was eventually Hound Puppy Group 2 in huge competition. Wish her well in her career.

Entries: 4 Absentees: 2 – I was disappointed with this class

1ST Jowitt’s BARLEYMOON ANKAA pretty pale fawn/black fringing, good length of muzzle to her feminine head, dark oval shaped eye, slightly too much stop for me, good length of neck, would prefer better lay to shoulder & slightly more width in front. Decent depth of ribcage & good cut-up, would prefer a shade more angle to her quarters, tail set well. Moved with lightness and purpose in profile, an elegant girl handled well.

2ND Dann, Ireson, Ferris & Cosentini’s JAZALLE AVA fawn/red that would benefit from a bit more body all through, she was of feminine outlook & had good pigment, her front was rather upright & narrow, she had long toes but was a bit down on her pasterns, a short ribcage making her cut-up a bit extreme to be ideal, she had reasonable angulation to her hindquarters but could not match the movement of the winner.

1ST Davies, Harrison & Sanders-Parker’s CLASSICUS ALCHEMY FOR CHARRIOAK JW stunningly beautiful black/tan of lovely conformation throughout, very refined and elegant and of a type I find very appealing. Clean bladed bone and very good topline, she had everything going for her; couldn’t deny her the class as she was just so well made and breed typical. Although she went quite well in this class, sadly for the Challenge, she did not have the ground coverage nor the lightness of foot and didn’t appear happy at all, a shame.

2nd Ham’s BENDEGEDIG TOVAH very appealing fawn/cream, refined & elegant in head, good length of muzzle, good pigment & dark oval eye with good expression. Neck of good length & shoulder well laid, nice clean bone, good angle to hindquarters, a nice bitch, just preferred the overall conformation & type of the first placed here, would like to see her move just slightly slower to be ideal.

3rd Ireson, Dann, Farris & Cosentini’s JAZALLE ANEEQA

Lovely lean head, good ear set & good fringes, long strong neck flowing into well placed & laid shoulder, moderate width, good clean bone, long feet, lovely depth to brisket & good ribbing, strong loin, nice topline flowing over nicely to moderately angled quarters, low set tail carried well. Moved beautifully with good light action and forward reach, covering plenty of ground. Shown in beautiful bloom & condition, pleased to award her the Bitch CC.

2nd Davies & Harrison’s CHARRIOAK SHEERZAM JW lovely cream of balanced proportions and moderate throughout, lean in head with good jaw strength, good neck to well-placed shoulder, straight front, slight slope to pastern, depth of chest & body condition good, muscular loin, falling gently away nicely to quarters, good second thigh, moved with precision but not the reach of winner.
