Cesky Terriers

Manchester 2019

Many thanks to the officers and committee of Manchester for inviting me to officiate at this their first year of all breed status and award their first set of CCs for Cesky Terriers. This is a breed I have watched with interest from their inception in the UK. Thank you for what was an excellent entry. At present they are not the easiest of breeds to judge, and I found it difficult to find a dog with the correct width and length of head that also had the correct overall outline. Some heads were too fine and some too thick in back skull, neither being correct. I was however very pleased with my overall winners.

Puppy dog. 1. Tobijanski’s Janski Duggee NAF. A very raw puppy that has time on his side. However, he has the hallmarks of a nice dog in the making. Pleasing head proportions with correct ear size and set. Good dark eye. Pleasing length of neck into well laid back shoulders. Correct topline and tuck up. Clean front with decent bone for his age. Correct depth of chest. Needs to drop his tail on the move although I forgave this in such a young male. Needs to develop in upper thigh. Moved ok.

Junior Dog. 1. Tobijanski’s Janski Duggee NAF 2. Dooner’s Wherrypoint Leopold. Pleasing young dog of quality. Good head. Correct neck and good shoulder placement. Not quite the front of the first placed dog and a little longer cast. Moved well in both directions.

Limit Dog. 1. Wither’s Nesta Du Champ D’Eole. Very typical dog of quality. I was immediately struck by his very typical silhouette. Lovely head of correct proportions with good strength of muzzle. Super dark eye and correct ear size and set. Lovely length of neck with the required slight arch enhancing a good outline. Spacious well muscled hindquarters. Moved very well. To be critical I would like a fraction more width in front. Considered for the RCC. 2. Marrett’s Gayteckels Bak In the Abbott. Another typy dog with lots of virtues. Excels in head. Good length of neck although a little heavy over the shoulder which detracted from his overall outline. Moved very well. For me just a fraction too long and big overall.

Open Dog. Not and easy class to judge with a wide variety of type and some rather pleasing dogs not putting all in. 1. England and Burrages’s Ch Ashleyheath’s Black Thunder Sh CM. I have judged this dog previously on a number of occasions and done him well. In his prime now he has developed into an excellent mature male. He has a very pleasing headpiece of correct proportions for a Cesky, and has a good dark eye and nice ear size and placement. Good neck and shoulder. Good front with good bone and feet. Well ribbed up. Lovely topline although if I was being hypercritical I would like a fraction more arch of the loin and a fraction more length of head to complete the picture. Moves well with great drive and good reach and without the need to raise his tail. Overall a very nice male and a worthy champion. Pleased to award him the CC. 2. Ch Janski Kalliope Jones Another nice dog of quality that has rightly gained his title. Differs in type to the first place dog and is overall a

fraction smaller. Pleasing head and expression. Good neck and shoulder. Pleasing length and overall outline. Not as positive behind as the winner. RCC. 3. Pendevour Pierrot Sh CM. If I am permitted I would like to comment on this male. He really is a lovely dog with a super head and overall shape. I had seen him the previous week at a show in Wales where he deserved his group placing. Today didn’t quite have the enthusiasm and carried too much weight, which detracted from the overall picture. However I do hope he gets that third CC which he deserves.

Puppy Bitch. 1. Thompson and Forbe’s Euphoriasatff Houska with Karensbrae (Imp) 1 Stood alone but more than worthy of this place. Very raw bitch that needs a lot of time, however, has all the essentials to go far. Lovely type. Good head. Super outline. Moved well. If I was to be critical I would like a little more hind angulation.

Limit Bitch. 1. Gayteckels Sister Act. Pleasing bitch who presented a good outline. Nice head. Good neck and shoulder. Correct depth of chest and thorax shape. In good hard condition. Could be a little tidier in front action. 2. England and Burrage’s Shasgav Nothin Else Matters by Ashleyheath. Another decent bitch. Not quite the front assembly of the first placed bitch and a touch wide in front. Moved ok. In good hard condition.

Open Bitch. 1. Tobijanksi’s Ch Janski Ultra Violet. Lovely make and shape. Good head proportions but would like more strength of foreface. Good front and bone and lovely feet. Correct topline. Moved well in both directions. In good hard condition. RCC. 2. Kessima Magic Moments. Different type to 1. Quality bitch and preferred her overall proportions and strength to the first place bitch. However to be critical would like her a fraction leaner in back skull. Played her experienced handler up and would not use her ears, which cost her a place. Should do well. 3. Burrages’s Komidion Night Music at Sametova.

Veteran Bitch. By far and away the best class of the day. 1. E'french Connection Du Champ D'eole Via Polede (Imp). In my opinion, this 9 year old bitch is quite exquisite. I have judged her previously and extolled her virtues and I see no reason to alter my opinion, she oozes breed type. Super head and expression. Her silhouette is absolutely correct with ideal topline and tuck up and correct loin. Super muscled up hindquarters with short lower thigh. Correct colour and coat texture and well trimmed. I have been exasperated before by this bitch, as she really pleases me, but she has not performed and her temperament has not been as robust as I would like. However today she was as they say ‘bang on’. Easy CC winner for me and subsequently BOB. Showed very well and did the breed proud in the group. Congratulations. With fair play this bitch should make up. 2. Marett’s Lastarean Grace and Favour for Gayteckels. Another lovely bitch not belittled by standing second. Quality bitch with many of the attributes of the winner. Good clean head of quality. Excellent neck and shoulder. Good front. Excellent bone. Moved very well fore and aft. Just preferred the topline of French Connection. 3. Burrage’s Ch Vandell Sweet Song of Sametova. Another lovely bitch who has done the breed proud completing a quality veteran class.
