CRUFTS 2019

9TH MARCH 2019.

BASSET GRIFFON VENDEEN (GRAND)

IT WAS A GREAT HONOUR TO BE INVITED TO JUDGE GBGV AT CRUFTS THIS YEAR.

I WAS PLEASED TO HAVE SOME QUALITY DOGS & BITCHES TO GO OVER.

HOWEVER, IT WAS DISAPPOINTING TO DISCOVER SEVERAL EXHIBITS WITH INCORRECT MOUTHS AND SOME WHO DID NOT HAVE THE BODY PROPORTIONS AND BALANCE THAT PLEASE THE EYE.

PUPPY DOG (2)

1ST Cooper & Smith’s JAYANEL AMBIORIX a well made 9 month old young male of pleasing proportions, satisfying overall shape with desirable bone and body. Attractive head shape, dark well shaped eyes and pleasing ears. He has excellent overall balance in profile, a firm level top-line and moderately angled hindquarters. Well made true front and good feet all of which I preferred to 2nd.  Better mover of the class outgoing with ideal carriage of his good length tail. Best Puppy in Breed.

2ND Butler & Cooper’s JAYANEL ABOUT TIME TOO masculine substantial 9 month old male (brother of 1st) who has desirable bone and body substance, pleasing expression with dark eye and breed typical in head. Looks to be going through a gangly stage of development needing to tighten in front and top-line. Pleasing spring of chest and ribbed well back. Hindquarters and body needing to mature and settle in movement especially in front.

JUNIOR DOG (4)

1ST  Buchanan & Maclaren’s MACARONI V TUM-TUMS VRIENDJES OF TARMACHAN (Imp Nld) a 13 month old rangy ‘all-male’ youngster who has plenty of scope to mature into a quality adult. Attractive breed typical head set on a strong neck laid into a true, well boned front with moderate angulations front and rear. Well developed in body having a desirable foundation structure needed to grow on. Pleasing coat and coat texture. Better mover of the class, true in front and good width behind..

2ND Culyer-Dawson’s SOUFRIERE WE WILL ROCK YOU a sizeable 13 month old who has desirable basic structure and substance of body. Appears to be a bit long over the back although firm enough in top-line but has good balance in angulations front & rear. Attractive head set on strong good length neck, well made in front, body and rear. Moved with a free, purposeful action.

3RD Kobuta’s DUNTECH GILBERT a 16 month old L/W who has a mature appearance. Pleasing head, set on good length neck, true well boned front but a little slack in feet. He has substance of body with a pleasing top-line. Well coated but would prefer a more harsh texture to his coat. Needing to be more settled on the move to give of his best.

POST GRADUATE DOG (1)

1ST Bayliss’ ARAPELO DARUDE a very shapely and balanced 20 month old who has a pleasing head, both in shape and proportions. Obvious fore-chest and true front with desirable angulation of shoulder in balance with his rear angles. Well bodied with good spring and ribbing, firm level top-line. Moved with great freedom and obviously enjoying every minute.

LIMIT DOG (1)

1ST Clark & Moon’s PLAINVILLE DERNIER PIQUEUR a mature 4 year old who is breed typical in shape and appearance both standing and moving with great freedom around the ring. Noble in head and in head carriage. Pleasing width all through, true front but tended to be loose in elbows. Would prefer him to be firmer in top-line with a less distinctive rise over loin.

OPEN DOG (4)

1ST Huikeshoven & Reid’s CH/DUTCH CH FROSTY SNOWMAN a super 3 year old imposing mature male who is striking in appearance and impressive in overall conformation. A stand-out example of the breed, he is sound all through with ideal proportions, being balanced in profile and with true extension and free, driving action with a noble head carriage both standing and while moving happily and confidently around the ring. Best standing profile and best mover of the entry. My Dog CC and Best of Breed winner.

2ND Makey’S CH GAIRSIDE GOOD LORD JW ShCM a rising 4 year old mature breed typical male who has a well defined quality profile. Excellent in make and shape and is balanced with good height to length proportions. Sound, stable and true front having obvious fore chest. Attractive, handsome and breed typical in head which he carries proudly both standing and on the move; pleasing spring and depth, being ribbed well back; moderately angled hindquarters of proportional width and parallel hocks both standing and on the move. Pleasing coat and texture. Reserve Dog CC.

3RD Harris & Theodorou’s DEBUCHER BIZET a 3½ year old typy mature looking male who has a notable coat and coat texture. Tended to appear a bit long and lose his top-line in profile. Attractive in head shape and proportions set on decent length neck. Well boned front with tight elbows, well bodied and nicely angled hindquarters. Free moving although tended to be close hocked behind.

VETERAN BITCH (2)

1ST O’Day’s CH SILVAMOON SWEET SAPPHIRE ShCM a very breed typical 10-year-old bitch who, in appearance, is of decent body proportions and balance. Pleasing in head, good width true front, well bodied with a firm top-line and nicely angled stable hindquarters. Preferred her front and rear angles to 2nd. Attractive in head set on good length strong neck, one who has forechest, good spring and depth of chest and broad in hindquarters. Tended to lose her top-line. A happy and enthusiastic mover but not as settled as 1st.

She has a desirable foundation structure and scope for maturity. Moved well when settled with notable action in side gait.

JUNIOR BITCH (3)

1ST Phillips’ DEBUCHER LETITIA a very breed typical, well coated 18 month old who is well made and has a very attractive side profile. She has a beautiful head, is balanced in body and all in proportion. Good front and forequarters; pleasing spring and ribbed well back with firm top-line; moderately angulated and broad in hindquarters and firm of stance. Preferred her profile and correctly textured coat to others in this class and she was also the better mover of this class.

2ND Marshall’s SOUFRIERE ONE VISION a 13 month old rough coated typy bitch who is pleasing in front and forequarters. Feminine and breed typical qualities in head set on a strong neck leading to a good length body and nicely let down hindquarters. Free in movement but not as precise as 1st.

3RD Moult’s ZAMILSA TRICK OR TREAT a 17 month old who looked to be going through a leggy stage of development. Feminine in head and expression but preferred the heads of 1st & 2nd. She has great promise and needs to mature and tighten all through to achieve her potential. Would prefer more extension front and rear on the move.

POST GRADUATE BITCH (5)

1ST Milton’s WILMIT INDEPENDENCE DAY JW an impressive quality 20 month old who is eye-catching in profile shape and has a notable breed typical appearance and looks to be coming into her prime. Workmanlike and houndy in appearance but nonetheless feminine; She is sound in make and pleasing in shape complemented by her breed typical correctly shaped head set on a strong neck, well laid back shoulders and flowing to a firm, good length, sound body covered with a correct harsh textured coat. She has free, sound movement especially in side gait with front extension and rear drive which I preferred to 2nd. Pleasing outgoing personality. My Bitch CC winner.

2ND Denny’s DEBUCHER ZARA AT JANIMIST a nearly 4 year old rough coated  shapely bitch who has a very pleasing head both in shape and proportions, set on a lengthy neck. Tended to look long in the back in proportion to height. She is well boned and well enough bodied with ok spring and length of ribbing and a decent top line although a little long in loin. Moderate angulations in rear but needs to strengthen behind. Moved well and free better in rear width than 3rd but tended to be a little loose in front.

Balanced in angulations front and rear. Moved well and free and better in side gait than 2nd.

2ND Sutton’s HOLMCHAPPELL MERCEDES a 3 year old feminine and typy in head; prefer less width in front and to be tighter in elbows. Well boned and bodied with good top-line, needs to be stretched out over the ground to be shown to advantage. Would prefer more angulations in hindquarters. Needs to be more settled on the move.

OPEN BITCH (8)

1ST Buchanan & Maclaren’s TARMACHAN BLACK ICE WW18 a 2 year old built on the lines of my Best of Breed winner. She has a well defined outline and is of pleasing overall proportions.
