I enjoyed judging Bullmastiff with Challenge Certificates for the first time at Bath Championship Show.  Thank you to the Officers and Committee for their invitation and to all exhibitors for their support and sporting way they accepted my decisions. I was generally pleased with all my winners but must comment that there seems to be a lack of importance being paid to dentition and mouths generally. There is a very clear “Mouth” clause in the breed standard and breeders and exhibitors must be more aware to take account of what is required; I have not commented on mouths in my critique of individual dogs.

Class 605 MPD (3 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 1799 WARREN Mr W & Mrs A Angel's Phoenix Dylan Dog Of Copperfield an upstanding 9 month old well grown young male who has pleasing bone and body development. Masculine breed typical head which has fair wrinkle and is pleasant in expression. Head set on a strong, nicely arched neck of full construction. He has good width across the chest with a well boned true front and has substance and satisfying body proportions. Still maturing and just needing slightly more bend of stifle.

2nd: 1793 SLATER Mr G Chalfs Mr Red a 6 month old who although not as well grown and well developed as 1st has pleasing basic construction and has lots of promise. Attractive head and expression, he is well boned and has pleasing body substance. A typical puppy in look and movement but did enough to note he has especially good front action.

1st: 1783 MYERS, Mr P J & MORGAN Miss D Optimus Danzy Jones (ai) Norseman a well grown 10 month old powerfully built male who has pleasing balance and proportion in side profile and appears of sturdy construction viewed front on. He possesses a good sized head, which is square when viewed from front and side, with a clearly defined stop and some wrinkle. Good width across the chest; Strong proportional length neck set onto a well built body of good length with a firm well defined top line which I preferred to 2nd. One that has loads of promise; moved the better of this class and other puppies on show today; Best Puppy in Breed.

2nd: 1797 TRIM, Mrs E & BISHOP Mrs L Roycepride In The News a substantial 10 month old of heavy construction. Masculine head which has strong features. He is well grown and has size combined with substance of body. Well boned in front which tended to appear upright and splay slightly; good length of body which is broad over the loin and tends to lose his top-line. Free moving but needing to tighten front and rear.

1st: 1767 BUCHANAN Mr & Mrs J D & A C Senntino Super Duke a powerful looking 13 month old brindle who is masculine in head which is of reasonable shape and together with expression I preferred to 2nd. True and well boned in front with pleasing width across the chest, ok spring and depth. Substantial in bone and body with better length/height proportions and top-line which I preferred to 2nd. Moved with a free easy gait and especially true in front.

2nd: 1780 MURPHY, Mrs C & Mr R & MURPHY Mr J Valhalla Hunter Ride The Lightning At Nanahboozoo a substantial 15 month old who although well built in body tended to look long overall. Masculine head possessing obvious wrinkle set on a good length neck still needing to develop. Sturdy in body, ribbed well back, top-line and hindquarters could be stronger especially on the move. Front movement was purposeful but was loose hocked behind.

Class 608 PGD (2 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 1774 LAMPEN Mrs L Quest For Gold Du Monde D'elias At Rosco (Imp Bel) a stocky looking 18 month old who is masculine in head which is breed typical in proportions and of decent shape and together with expression I preferred to 2nd. Pleasing width across the chest with well boned true front and having decent spring and depth of chest. Substantial in bone and body with length/height proportions which I just preferred to 2nd. Firm and broad in loin. Moved with a free and easy gait

2nd: 1770 COUNSELL, Mr D & CAPPELL Miss N Jbzee Cloud Nine a 23 month old heavily constructed dark brindle. Broad in head set on a well developed neck. Well boned front, although tended to splay, and substantial in body all through. Would prefer more firm cover over the ribs and loin which would improve his overall proportions. Needs to strengthen behind and tighten up on the move.

1st: 1768 COLLIASS Miss A T-lusitanas Bruno Da Casa Da Pedra Bela Of Oldwell an upstanding 2 year old of pleasing size, proportions and substance. Good sized masculine head of pleasing shape and proportions and having dark well shaped eyes all of which together I preferred to 2nd. Pleasing width across the chest, true well boned front, sturdy in body with just right proportions, firm in top-line and stable in hindquarters. Better mover of the class especially in rear action.

2nd: 1789 POPP Mr & Mrs P & C Kenquartz Berrylicious Of Penychen Sh.CM a mature 4 year old burly male having the substance and bone typical of the breed. Attractive head shape viewed from the front and side; I would prefer darker eyes. Forelegs are well boned and straight but pasterns tending to splay. Body well covered of good proportions and looking strong and firm in side outline. Hindquarters need to strengthen both standing and on the move.

1st: 1784 MYERS, Mr P J & MORGAN Miss D Ch Optimus Daffyd JW an imposing quality 3 year old male who is in firm condition and presents a physically powerful picture. He is well made in appearance and has the balance and ideal body proportions in length and height. Impressive in appearance both front and side profile. Handsome head shape both viewed front on and in side profile and his expression is enhanced by his breed features and dark eyes. Strong, correctly arched, full neck which is of ideal length and set correctly on to muscular sloping shoulders and sturdy, firm body. Moved out well both in front and rear with a purposeful powerful action. Pleased to award him the Dog CC and Best of Breed.

2nd: 1771 DAVIES Ms J A Ch Hyerdunscar On A Mission With Coulbymoor Jw JW a rising 4 year old male who has a clean-cut appearance. Very attractive in head, powerful in neck and forequarters, true well boned front with ideal width across the chest. Super overall make and shape having ideal proportions, being symmetrical in outline and balanced in angulations front/hindquarters. Moved well especially in front, not as precise as 1st in rear action. My Reserve Dog CC winner.

2nd: 1792 SHEPPARD, Mr I & IRWIN Miss J Birma Chobienia Forest a very nicely made 14 month old youngster who let herself down with her being overcome with her surroundings and being a bit reluctant to stand and move. However, she is worth persevering with as she is pleasing in head and is well boned and well grown and when stood she was of good proportions. Moved well enough when settled.

1st: 1794 SLATER Mr G Chalfs Proud Mary a well made 6 month old who has pleasing bone and body for her age. I liked her head shape and proportions; she has dark eyes and plenty of character in her head which presents a very attractive expression. True and well boned in front with good width across the chest and a nicely developed body. Very promising youngster. Moved the best of this class.

2nd: 1773 HORTON, Ms C & WILLIAMS Mr A T Gertlush Bella Donna a well grown 8 month old who has a good sized square proportioned head; would prefer less evident wrinkle. Well boned true enough front. Substantial in body which has pleasing proportions and a powerful look. Needs to settle to give of her best.

1st: 1788 PINKOWSKA Mrs M Liebre Monica My Carmella a very breed typical 9 month old who is attractive in head both in shape and expression which I preferred to 2nd.  She is well boned and is powerful but feminine in appearance. True well boned front, ideal width across the chest with a firm body of substance. Stands well over the ground presenting a picture of strength and stability. Moved with a steady purposeful action.  

2nd: 1795 TRIM Mrs E M & Mr D Royceprides Drama Queen a well grown 10 month old who shares many of the merits of 1st. Pleasing head both in shape and size. Well boned with substance of body; desirable spring and depth of chest. Firm top-line with moderate length of back. Free moving but needs to tighten in front.

1st: 1778 LYNES, Miss M & MCGROARTY Miss L Ardhub Tittle Tattle At Melinllynnon a well built 17 month old dark brindle of substantial construction needing to firm up and tighten all through. Square in head, face on and large in appearance and which is set on a strong sturdy neck. Well covered body with good length of ribbing and broad in loin. Well boned hindquarters with good width across the thigh; could have better turn of stifle. Moved with a free and easy action with decent front action but loose hocks in rear action.

2nd: 1792 SHEPPARD, Mr I & IRWIN Miss J Birma Chobienia Forest

Class 616 PGB (4 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: 1790 RAS Mrs I Suenomia Chica a pleasing shapely 2 year old who although slightly longer caste than 2nd and 3rd is well constructed in front and forequarters and has excellent bone and body. Feminine head perhaps muzzle could be shorter in proportion to skull but otherwise pleasing head/skull size and shape and still scope for development/maturity. Strong in hindquarters. Moved the better of this class.

2nd: 1798 TRIM, Mrs E & BISHOP Mrs L Royceprides Calypso a sturdy 2 year old who is of substantial construction. Could have slightly more length over the back which would improve her overall proportions and balance. Pleasing head which I preferred to 3rd. True and well boned in front with satisfying width across the chest. Well bodied having firm cover over her ribs which was an improvement over 3rd. Free moving but needing to tighten in rear action.

1st: 1796 TRIM Mrs E M & Mr D Pleats Osha The Wildling At Roycepride an eye-catching 2 year old who has all the basics in conformation and has great potential to mature into a top winner. Super overall shape, size and proportions. Pleasing head, the shape and proportions which I preferred to 2nd. True well boned front with ideal width across the chest. Stands firm and in balance. Powerfully made and symmetrical in body with just enough substance not to interfere with her potential freedom of movement. She is free, easy and purposeful on the move.

2nd: 1763 ABBOTT Mr G R A Ardhub Black Encounter For Alonzobar a mature looking 3 year D/brindle of pleasing overall substance and shape. Breed typical in head which has enough breed characteristics to enhance her appearance and expression which I preferred to 3rd. Well boned and powerful in body. She has firm substance and desirable spring and depth of chest. Stands well displaying her qualities of strength, shape and proportions of body. Moved well enough with pleasing front action.

1st: 1776 LINDLEY Mrs J Ch Hyerdunscar The Big Tease JW Ir J Ch CJW16 a very good quality mature 4 year old who stands firm over the ground with a well balanced and symmetrical outline. She is well built having a powerful look but retaining her feminine features. Lovely shaped head with just enough wrinkle and having dark eyes all making an attractive expression; strong proportional length and shaped neck. Ideal width across her chest possessing obvious fore chest and a well boned true front. She is well made and well bodied all through and is firm and pleasing in top line with just enough length over her body. Moved with purpose and freedom. My Bitch CC winner.

2nd: 1785 MYERS, Mr P J & MORGAN Miss D Ch It Ch Optimus Rhondda JW a mature rising 6 year old of similar shape and qualities to 1st. She is of imposing appearance and appeared on her toes the whole time which tended to straighten her front and pastern. Super body which has substance and is physically powerful with ideal proportions and symmetrical in appearance. Free moving but preferred front action of 1st. My Reserve Bitch CC winner.

3rd: 1782 MURPHY, Mrs C & Mr R & MURPHY Mr J Valhalla Hunter Princess At Nanahboozoo (Imp) Sh.C

1st: 1779 MCARDLE Mrs K A & Mr D Luconevar Gabriella  a 7½ year old well built mature bitch who has an attractive typy head and expression. Head set well on a full strong neck. Substantial well made body of just enough overall length.  Sturdy in appearance, ideal width of chest with mature ribbing and pleasing depth of chest. Strong in hindquarters with moderate angulations which she used well on the move. Best Veteran in Breed.
