CRUFTS 2019

Australian Silky Terriers

I was delighted to judge this entry of Silkies at this famous show. Not many on show today but as per usual the quality was high. Such an eyecatching & charming breed full of character & spirit. Silkies always perform well at group level despite their depleted numbers. The main point to watch is the forehand with some dogs lacking the correct straight foreleg, a bugbear of the breed for years. Body proportions were good as were heads & I wish the enthusiastic Silky devotees all the very best for the future.

PGD (2) 1 Mault’s Limartine Redlining, very typical dog, typical head, well set ears, dark eyes, medium neck, good topline. Best coat texture & colour in this entry, his coat shone like satin. Quite close up in the challenge where the more driving movement of the BD won the day. Two very nice males of top quality. RBD; 2 Allen’s Limartine Red Poseidon, dog of good size, lovely outgoing temperament, very nice head & expression, dark eyes, well set ears. Would prefer slightly straighter forearm. Carried his tail well on the move. Young handler needs to gain some coat grooming skills but I very much liked her sympathetic handling style. OD (3) 1 Connolly, Dowty & Mackrell’s Int/Ir/Gib Ch Sunny Pearls Gaspar Amoroso, eyecatching dog of lovely type & balance, attractive head & expression, used his ears well, very good forehand with excellent cat feet & straight forearm, very good rectangular body of correct proportions, well bent stifles, really came into his own on the move, drove around the ring with purpose, typical head & tail carriage, held his topline well. Delighted to see him represent the breed so well in the strong toy group. BD & BOB; 2 Mault & Freer’s Int/Multi Ch Pet Pursuit Catch The Rainbow, masculine dog of attractive type, good ear shape, correct body proportions, round bone, medium front. Not the drive of 1. Lovely rich tan, body colour OK, well balanced angulation; 3 Walker’s Brookemur Chasin Pavements at Petwalk, very showy & alert dog, many terrier qualities including strong jaw & sturdy body, level topline. More square on the move than 1 & 2. Lovely rich tan, coat well presented.

JB (1) 1 Mackrell & Dowty’s Marfick Moxy Rocks, very feminine & promising 17 months bitch, very eyecatching & together, attractive head & expression, used her ears well, medium neck, correct medium chest, blue body colour coming through nicely, stepped out with purpose, super head & tail carriage, should have a bright future. BB. PGB (1) 1 Taylor’s Pet Pursuit Eternal Moment, bitch of very nice type & colour, seemed a bit overawed by the venue at first but did eventually settle & let me examine her. Lovely fawn topknot, stepped out OK. Stood a smidgen high in rear at times. Will need plenty of gentle encouragement in order to come on. Blue body colour well developed. OB (1) 1 Mackrell’s Marfick Molly Malone at Clynymona, very typical & alert bitch, a real little terrier, attractive head, good body proportions, held topline well on the move. Front movement a shade wide. Topknot of good fawn colour, blue colour very even, moved with good head & tail carriage. In the challenge, I just felt her younger kennelmate had a little bit more fairy dust sprinkled on her today. Two lovely bitches of correct Silky type. RBB.
