Golden Retrievers – East of England Championship Show 7th July 2019 

 

Many thanks to the committee of East of England Championship Show for the opportunity to judge at their lovely show and a special thank you to my two fantastic stewards Barbara and Diane for keeping the ring running so efficiently throughout the day.  I was delighted to watch my BOB, BP, BV and BSB all get shortlisted in their groups.  Finally thanks to the exhibitors for their lovely entry and in particular the beautiful bitch entry where on many occasions decisions could have gone another way on a different day. 

 

MINOR PUPPY DOG (8,1) 

1st Clarke’s OUSEVALE TOBERMORY 

Beautiful soft head and expression with a lovely dark eye.  Excellent bone and neat feet.  Good reach of neck leading into well placed shoulders and good length of upper arm.  Good depth of chest for his age with a level top line held on the move with correct tail carriage.  Good width of stifle which he used to his advantage on the move covering the ground with ease. Presented in excellent coat and condition.  BPD and one I will enjoy watching mature. 

 

2nd Swatton’s ALIBREN BAKER’S BOY 

Another promising puppy, lovely head and expression with good clean reach of neck and straight front with good bone.  Balanced angles both front and back.  Level top line held on the move.  Just not the maturity of 1.

Fourth in a beautiful minor puppy class.  Soft head and expression with lovely length of neck.  Good bone and neat feet. Good width of stifle, moved well when settled, will just take time to mature and fill his rangy frame.

1st Birkin-Green & Gripton’s SANSUE KEEP THE MAGIC JW 

Lovely masculine dog but with soft expression and excellent pigment.  Good reach of neck with well placed shoulders and good length of upper arm.  Good depth of chest with level top line both standing and on the move.  Well bent stifles, covered the ground with ease and presented a very balance picture. 

 

2nd McCormack’s FLYNGALEE SIGNATURE 

Another beautiful boy with soft melting expression, excellent pigment and lovely dark eye.  Good reach of neck with well angulated front and balanced rear angulation which he used to his advantage on the move covering the ground with ease.

YEARLING DOG (11,2) 

1st Vernon’s GRACELEIGH POPEYE 

This dog caught my eye as he entered the ring.  Masculine head and expression with excellent pigment.  Good reach of neck with well placed shoulder leading into a level top line held on the move.  Good depth of chest and excellent bone and neat feet.  Good width of stifle and presented in excellent coat and hard condition, moved with reach and drive. One with a bright future. 

2nd Keene’s SHINEHILL SNOW PATROL 

Masculine head but maintains soft expression.  Good reach of neck and well placed shoulders.  Good spring of rib and width of stifle.  Presented in hard condition in lovely mid gold coat.  Just not the drive from rear of 1.

Beautiful chizled head but maintaining a soft expression.  Good reach of neck with well placed shoulders.  Good depth of chest and strong level top line held on the move.  Good width of stifle and correct tail carriage.  Moved well when settled but giving handler a hard time.  Won this class for his overall balance. 

 

2nd McDonald’s LAMANCHA MAGICAL MOMENTS JW 

Lovely soft head and expression with excellent pigment and dark eye.  Good length of neck with well placed shoulders.  Good depth of chest and level top line.  Good width of stifle and presented in excellent hard condition which he used to his advantage on the move covering the ground with ease.

Beautiful soft head and expression with excellent pigmentation.  Presents a very balanced picture.  Well angulated front with good depth of chest and spring of rib.  Level top line with correct tail carriage.  Good width of stifle, excellent bone and neat feet.  Moved well would just like a little more enthusiasm. 

 

2nd Vicars’ CATCOMBE CALICO AT PEERSBROOK JW 

Lovely head and expression with excellent pigment.  Well placed shoulders and good depth of chest and spring of rib.  Level top line and good width of stifle.  Moved well and presented in beautiful mid gold coat and excellent condition. BSB.

Very balanced dog with lovely head and dark pigmentation.  Beautiful clean neck and well placed shoulders.  Good depth of chest.  Level top line held on the move, well bent stifles, moved well would just prefer a little more enthusiasm.   

 

2nd Birkin-Green & Gripton’s SANSUE GOLDEN DREAM JW 

Another balanced boy with beautiful masculine head and lovely dark eye and pigment.  Good bone and neat feet.  Well placed shoulders and strong top line held on the move.  Good width of stifle and covers the ground with ease driving from the rear.

Masculine head with soft expression.  Straight front with good depth of chest.  Level top line on the stand.  Good width of stifle and presented in lovely gold coat.  Moved well. 

 

2nd Morss’ XANTHOS BULLET PROFF JW 

Smaller dog than one but still very balanced.  Masculine head with excellent pigmentation.  Good depth of chest and width of stifle. Strong level top line, presented in beautiful coat and hard condition.  Moved well.

1st Vermander’s QUITE SOME LEGEND OF SUNSHINE’S VALLEY BEL JUN CH 

One I have judged before and he has continued to mature and improve.  Beautiful soft head and melting expression with excellent pigment.  Good reach of neck with well placed shoulders and good length of upper arm.  Excellent bone and neat feet.  Good depth of chest and level top line.  Very positive mover with consistent pace.  Just needs time to finish the picture which I look forward to seeing and unfortunate to meet the veteran dog winner today in such good form. Res DOG CC.

What can I say, I have never seen this dog look better than he did today.  Beautiful masculine head but maintaining a soft expression.  Good reach of neck and depth of chest.  Good bone and neat feet.  Level top line both standing and held on the move where he covered the ground with ease with reach in front and drive from rear.  Presented in immaculate coat and condition.  He could not be denied the DOG CC and BV. 

 

2nd Thurm’s BELDONBURN FAIRPLAY ShCM 

Nearly 11 years and still enjoying the show ring.  In excellent condition.  Lovely head and expression, very balanced and still maintaining a level top line.  Good width of stifle and covered the ground well for his age.

Beautiful elegant bitch with pretty head and expression.  Excellent reach of neck with well placed shoulders and good depth of chest for her age.  Level top line and good width of stifle.  Moved confidently and soundly for her age and she continued to give her all at the end of the day where she was shortlisted in the puppy group. BPB and BPIB. 

 

2nd Clarkson’s DRUMKILTY ON IMPULSE 

Another beautiful bitch with beautiful head and excellent pigmentation.  Good reach of neck with well placed shoulders and good depth of chest.  Very balanced with a level top line while standing.  Moved well and presented in excellent coat and condition.

Another elegant bitch with lovely head and expression .  Very balanced angles both front and back.  Level top line held on the move.  Good width of stifle, giving handler a hard time today but this will settle with age.

2nd Birkin-Green’s SANSUE KEEP THE FAITH 

Very elegant girl with lovely head and excellent pigment.  Similar qualities to 1, I just preferred the front angulation of the winner.  Level top line and good width of stifle, moved true with drive from the rear.

Another balanced bitch with a pretty head and expression.  Good reach of neck and depth of chest.  Level top line and good spring of rib and width of stifle.  Presented in lovely coat and hard condition.  Covered the ground with ease.

A beautiful head and expression with lovely dark eye.  Good reach if neck with well placed shoulders and balanced angles with rear.  Good bone and neat feet.  Level top line held on the move where she covered the ground with ease.  Just slightly longer cast than 1.

Judged her as a puppy and she did not disappoint today.  Beautiful head and expression with lovely eye.  Good reach of neck with well placed shoulders.  Level top line held on the move which won her this class today.  Good spring of rib and width of stifle, moved effortlessly around the ring with her well muscles quarters. 

 

2nd Zubair & Trinder’s THORNYWAIT CINZANO 

Mid gold bitch presented in lovely coat and condition.  Pretty head and excellent pigment.  Good reach of neck and level top line on the stand.  Well muscled and moved well.  Just preferred the length of leg on 1.

What can I say, this was my class of the day.  I was totally spoilt for choice and many of those unplaced today could win on another day.  I did not make a shortlist as I liked every bitch in the class so thank you to the exhibitors for giving me the opportunity to judge a class of this quality. 

 

1st Monteverde’s IT/INT SH CH PRIMAVERA IN ANTICIPO DELLA VAL D’AVETO 

Absolutely stunning gold bitch.  Beautiful head and expression with excellent pigmentation.  Lovely reach of neck with well placed shoulders and good length of upper arm.  Level top line held on the move.  Presented in excellent coat and hard condition.  On the final run round her elegance and free striding movement won her the class.  Delighted to award her the CC, her third and BOB. 

 

2nd Clarkson’s DRUMKILTY HIBERNIA JW 

Another quality bitch from this kennel.  Beautiful head and expression with lovely dark eye.  Clean reach of neck flowing into a level top line with well placed shoulders and good length of upper arm.  Good spring of rib and width of stifle.  Presented in profuse cream coat and well muscled.  Moved well covering the ground with ease. Res CC.

Another beautiful veteran who was enjoying her time in the ring.  Pretty head and expression with good reach of neck.  Well sprung ribs and level top line.  Well bent stifles, moved well, just preferred the front of 1.
