Hungarian Wirehaired Vizslas.. December 2019
Writing this made me wonder if a few people are ignoring the breed standard. The breed was recognised by the FCI in 1946 the Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla FCI Breed Standard came into being and since then small changes made and it’s well worth reading ..
As is our own UK breed standard which has changed a little since first accepted by our KC .. but the basics have not changed .. They are the blue print of the breed .. I do wonder how many have read it in-depth and think about the work it took to produce the HWV ..
The HWV was designed for the felvidékin( the extremely rough terrain of Slovakia ) which very many, many years ago was part of Hungary
. With this ancient country having had such a harsh history how hard it must have been particularly with WW1 & WW2 .. and then the country being ruled by the Russian communist party to finally produce and have the HWV accepted was amazing !
But how lucky too ... Unlike some breeds in the UK and Europe after the war .. they didn’t have to resort to rebreeding the HWV...
The dedication and the work involved in producing this sound medium sized dog that could work in such rough terrain is all in the book written by Tumay Janosne (wife of Tumay Janos) she and her husband were the founders of the famous Boroyanksi Kennels ..I was lucky enough to meet her and spend time with her.
Size seems to be one of the main issues that needs looking into ...with all the internet facilities, photos, pedigrees, easy travel and asking about the ancestors of your dogs could help so much ..same goes for coats ... they were produced to work in heavy and harsh conditions and that should reflect in their coats ..you won’t see in the ring a GWP without a good jacket, or a Wirehaired Dachshund or Wirehaired Fox Terrier ..etc. So why should we see Wires without .. okay it’s not easy ..but with passion for what the breed is ..it’s possible..other breeds have !
I was delighted with all my winners and thank them for their fortitude in waiting until late in the day ..and we managed to get finished just as they were calling for the Gundog Group .. also thank you to my stewards for their swiftness.
I love to see puppies being puppies.. like human babies I don’t expect or like to see little adults .. or standing still for many moments ..let them enjoy being there and enjoying themselves ..it’s so good to see gangly pups turning into swans ..and in all the puppy classes there was great potential I will be following their futures with great interest.
