Thank you to all exhibitors, my stewards and the show organisers. This was a very enjoyable show to judge with several really pleasing Staffords for me to go over. A few dogs and bitches exhibited with minor dentition faults plus one with a wry mouth and one that I would term “badly undershot”. The minor problems I treated accordingly but I can’t excuse the serious faults. I was pleased to find movement and toplines significantly improved over the past few years. Very few of the dogs displayed weakness in the hindquarters causing a loss of the desired parallel movement and drive. Feet were generally not as tight as they should be. Is this too much grass walking, general lack of exercise or something that breeders are forgetting?

Class 1809 Veteran Dog

    1st: HAYWOOD Mr GC     OZZIE THE ENFORCER

An 11-year-old in excellent condition with a good mouth, strong head, neat ears, tidy lips and well-balanced.  He has a deep brisket, level topline and moved well. His colouring is unusual but I determined it was not classic black and tan and therefore awarded first.

Class 1810 Minor Puppy Dog

    1st: FUNNELL Ms P     POWERPACK TAM O'SHANTER

A brindle with white paw and vest, nearly 7 months and beginning to develop. His head is OK for his age. He has an excellent bite, neat ears, level topline and decent bone but will need to broaden his front.

    2nd: DARBY Mr & Mrs M     NIKKYLESTAFF HEART OF GOLD AT CLARETBULL

A well balanced 6-month-old brindle with a shapely head, square body and level topline.

Class 1811 Puppy Dog

    1st: MCCARRON-TUER Mrs D     ELITEBULL AVENGER

An 11-month brindle with white vest marking. He has a perfect scissor bite with large teeth, short foreface, dark round eyes but a bit heavy lipped. Moved with purpose and held his topline on the move.

    2nd: HILLMAN Mr & Mrs J     CHALEXSTAFF THE HEATHEN

A powerful youngster, this brindle with extensive white markings is also 11 months but more mature than 1st. He has a strong head, broad stance, and adequate brisket and rib for his age. Moved well.

    3rd: ANTONIO Mr A     GAZSTAFF MAN IN BLACK FOR ANTONIOSTAFF

Class 1812 Junior Dog

    1st: SMART, Miss J & HEDGES Mr A     TNT EDITION RENEGADE OF ARNHEM

A mature, well boned red/white with a strong head, perfect bite and tidy lips. He has a broad front, excellent rib and brisket, and a level topline that held level on the move. I also liked the neat feet, bend of stifle and well let down hocks.

    2nd: MAKIN, Miss E & PORTER Mr A     WAYSTAFF MOON SHINE

Another very tidy, well balanced red/white dog with an excellent expression but 4 months younger and hence less mature than 1st. He also has the broad front, excellent bone, is well tucked up and may well develop a similar rib cage.

    3rd: DAVIS, Mr K & DAVIS Mr C     BOLDSTOCK GEE TAR MAN AT SHARMARA

Class 1813 Yearling Dog

    1st: GOUGH Mr F, Mrs I C & Miss CL     MANARK MADE TO MEASURE

A stunning red dog with white vest, a strong shapely head, neat ears, typical expression, tight lips and scissor bite. Well boned throughout with adequate rib and brisket, super level topline, well-muscled hindquarters. One of the best movers powering around the ring with the topline remaining level and legs parallel. {RDCC}

    2nd: RHODES, Mr L & PRITCHARD Mr A     TARAIEL REAPER AT TERACOTA

This solid, well-muscled brindle with a few white markings has an ideal head shape and expression, neat ears and a perfect mouth with large teeth and scissor bite. He has an excellent spring of rib, is well tucked up and moves nicely.

    3rd: FUNNELL, Ms P & WIGGINS Ms N     POWERPACK KILGOBNET

Class 1814 Novice Dog

    1st: MITCHELL, Miss V & ASHTON Mr D     CHEDANSTAFF DEVIL STAR

This young brindle was not outclassed in puppy where he got reserve. He has a nice shaped head, round dark eye, good expression, neat ears and an excellent bite. He has an adequate front for his age, a level topline and his hindquarters are developing nicely but we’ll have to wait and see if he matures into a more powerful package.

Class 1815 Graduate Dog

    1st: HIRST, Miss S & BIBBY Miss J     TARAIEL SOULJA BOY JW

A strong headed, mature brindle who unfortunately seemed disinterested and probably didn’t show to his potential. He has a good mouth, adequate front, level topline and decent hindquarters. Moved OK but a bit lazily.

    2nd: GIBSON Mr D & Mrs D     HOLMANE MOLDAVITE

This younger, balanced but lighter boned brindle was reserve in Junior. He has a shapely head, decent mouth, neat ears and agreeable expression. He has a proportionate spring of rib, level topline, nicely muscled upper thigh and moved OK.

Class 1816 Post Graduate Dog

    1st: MITCHELL, Miss V & ASHTON Mr D     OUR LITTLE CRACKER

This blue brindle with a strong, shapely head was marginally out of balance, slightly taller and not quite as well boned as I feel is ideal. He does have an excellent scissor bite, adequate brisket, a level topline, is well tucked up and moved OK.

    2nd: THOMAS Mrs G     SUNNYSTONE LIMITED EDITION

A balanced, well-boned brindle dog with a decent head, broad front, adequate rib and brisket, level topline and nicely muscled hindquarters.

    3rd: THISBY Mr & Mrs KB & F     TAURINSTAFF FIST OF FURY

Class 1817 Limit Dog

    1st: HARKIN Mr P    HARKLINE CONOR MCGREGOR

Excellent balance to this brindle. He has a keen expression and ring presence to make you take note of him. This is supported by his well-shaped skull, neat ears, perfect scissor bite and strong neck leading down to a well ribbed body with deep brisket and a super level topline. He stands four square with a wide front stance. He is close coupled, has well-muscled hindquarters and moves pretty well. He was in contention for the major prizes right to the last.

    2nd: O’CONNOR Mr M J     SAMTAN CRIME FIGHTER BY CHEZATREE

This was a good class and, on another day, this strong, deep red dog with dark pigmentation and a white vest could have gone one better. He has an excellent strong head with exceptionally tidy ears for a red and a scissor bite. He moved forcibly and is clearly a powerful dog with admirable bone, well developed muscle, deep brisket, super spring of rib and a topline which held level even on the move.

    3rd: MCCARRON-TUER Mrs D     ELITEBULL SUPERMOON

Class 1818 Open Dog

    1st: THOMAS Mrs K & Mr S     BIGGLESWICK FUNKY DEVIL JW

What a cracking red/white pied dog, 6½ years old but still very much a typical compact Stafford. He is balanced throughout with a strong, shapely head, neat ears, round dark eyes giving a very pleasing expression. He has a good mouth with tidy lips and pronounced cheek muscles. His neck, shoulders, brisket, rib, overall bone, well-muscled hindquarters and forceful movement all signpost “power”.   {BOB, DCC}

    2nd: ALLSOPP Mrs J     CH RUBERICLA TRAILBREAKER

A standard, compact, balanced brindle Stafford with a strong head, good mouth, neat ears, lips and a steady expression. He has a decent front, deep brisket, plenty of rib, a level topline and muscled hindquarters with clear second thigh and good bend of stifle.

    3rd: STANWAY Mrs EA & Mr PT    AUS CH MOSSTROOPER KENTUCKY MOON (IMP)

Class 1819 Veteran Bitch

At 9½ years old this fit brindle still has excellent Stafford type, a shapely head, lovely expression, perfect bite, deep brisket, plenty of rib, level topline and moved well. {BV}

    2nd: GARDNER Miss F     LABRASTAF EYE OF THE STORM

11½ years old but another fit brindle with a lovely head shape, great mouth, adequate front, neat tuck-up and excellent hindquarters. Another who moved well.

    3rd: WILSON, Mr J & RODGERS Miss D     OZZIES RED RASCAL

Class 1820 Minor Puppy Bitch

    1st: STANWAY Mrs EA & Mr PT     WAYSTAFF FULL MOON

A well-built white bitch with a few black spots who seems relatively mature for her 7½ months. She is a powerful looking girl with an excellent head, perfect mouth, neat ear and superb expression. She is a square box from front and side view, with a broad front, ribs and brisket developing nicely and a level topline. She moved a dream and held her topline as she went. {BP}

    2nd: MARSHALLSAY Mr S     FERGUSTAFF DRAMA QUEEN

Although the same age as 1st and also a very well-structured bitch, she’s not quite as mature but these 2 could easily exchange places in months/years to come. She’s a red with white markings, has a lovely head shape, perfect mouth, excellent expression and good pigmentation. She has a broad front for her age, level topline, deep brisket and well-shaped hindquarters. She also moved very well and stayed level.

    1st: HOPKINS Mr & Mrs SC     RASPBERRY RIPPLE OF SPIRIT STAFFS TO TRUFFLESTAFF

VHC in Junior even though she’d been limping, but this cleared up by graduate and she was able to present herself much better.
