Griffon Bruxellois

Many thanks for the entry and the sporting manner in which my placings were received. Judging is about compromise and I certainly had to do that!

As a breed we must keep an eye on the overall shape as several exhibits simply did not have the correct outline of a Griffon. Cobby, square, thickset are words that describe some of the basic essentials of the breed not weak, fine and narrow which were evident on the day.

On the plus side most were well groomed and turned out in clean condition. My principle winners were close up to the breed standard.

Class 2434 MPD (2 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: SWINGE Miss M Balthazar Dream Lover NAF

6Mths R/R and still very much a baby, expressive head, ample neck, scored over the second in shoulder placement, enough bone for size, decent rib, needs more body which will come with age. Retained a good Topline in profile, moved out well front and back.

 2nd:SUGGITT Mrs A Aptrick Sacha

B/R more mature than the second, nice head and eye, good bone, could do with a touch more lay back of shoulder and as a result did not have the forward reach of the winner. Good coat that was well presented, decent topline and tailset.

Class 2435 PD (5 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: HUGHES, Mrs M & CRAWFORD Mrs S Beauborne Endeavour

This R/R boy won this class on maturity as he is much further on than the second, good over the neck and shoulder, super body and rib, good bone, on the move he was accurate out and back and presented a good picture in profle.

 2nd:MURRAY Mrs B Operastar Ernanie

A very typical R/S who is behind the winner in body and maturity but is to be expected at 9mths, ample bone for size, tight fitting coat, balanced head, good mouth. Moved well coming and going.

3rd: WHITE Mr & Mrs D Emjaycee Time Flies at Wistleyhill

Class 2436 JD (4 Entries) Abs: 0

 1st: GULLON Mr C J Barnfall Sunshine

This 17 month R/R is a nice dog to go over, not the maturity of the CC winner but that will come with time. Nice head, large dark eye, coat of good colour and texture, true front, good legs and feet, he moved out well front and back, and presented a very good picture in profile. I was pleased to award him the Res CC.

 2nd:MURRAY Mrs B Operastar Manrico

9 months R/S and giving a lot away in this class, large head, clean over the neck and shoulder. Positive on the move out and back, tight coat, good rib, topline falls away slightly towards the croup. In profile not quite the length of stride of the winner.

3rd: SWINGE Miss M Harpersband Oscar Award At Balthazar (Imp Rus)

Class 2437 PGD (3 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: STURMEY Mr M P Foxfly Secret Society

R/R who presents a very good outline, decent head but it could be slightly larger. Clean over the neck and shoulder, would prefer tighter elbows, good legs and feet. Coat presented in good order, good on the move going away, good picture in profile.

2nd:BARANOVA Mrs O V Harpersband Long For Masquerade

 Class 2438 LD (3 Entries) Abs: 1

This class contained two quality dogs of good breed type.

1st: SELBY, Mr M & WHITEHEAD Miss F Zilcan Fly The Colours

This boy is certainly cobby and possesses a good spring of rib, short backed, correct bone for size, coat of good texture, enough neck, does not need to carry anymore weight over the withers. Coat of good texture that was well presented, good legs and feet. He was alert and assertive on the move holding a level topline in profile and displaying a decent length of stride. He scored over the second as he was in good coat and the second was short of coat on the day. I was pleased to award him the CC.

 2nd:MERCER Mr P & Mrs M A Zilcan Zorro at Fennymore

Another dog very similar to the first, he too is the correct shape and has substance throughout, well constructed front, good rib and carried a good body, balanced head, He was positive coming towards, retained his outline in profile, well set and carried tail. All in all a quality dog who today was very short of coat which pegged him back.

Class 2439 OD (2 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: SUGGITT Miss K F Aptrick Time For Elevenses

Not a big dog but well balanced, expressive head, used his ears well, sufficient neck, good legs and feet, could be a touch tighter in elbow, carried a good solid body, short backed, super coat of good texture that was well presented. He moved out well but could be tidier coming towards.

2nd:SWINGE Miss M Ch Harpersband Case In Point At Balthazar (Imp) JW

This self assured boy gave a good account of himself, large enough head, good coat texture, good legs and feet, could carry more weight to advantage. His topline slopes which tends to spoil the picture and this is evident standing and on the move. He strides out well in profile but today had a touch too much lift on the front.

Class 2440 VD (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: MEADEN Miss A M Ch & Ir Ch Topmead Jack The Lad

7 ½ B/R, larger head, good mouth, strong over the neck and shoulder, good legs and feet, not in his best coat today. Good rib, strong loin, Topline falls away to the croup. Assertive and brisk on the move giving a good picture in profile.

Class 2442 MPB (3 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: PRICE Mrs A B Marquant So Delicious

6 mths R/R who was full of herself, presented a balanced picture, good legs and feet, carried a good body, coat coming along nicely, decent tailset and carriage. She took some time to settle on the move but eventually gave enough to win this class.

2nd:SUGGITT Mrs A Aptrick Primavera Fresa

7 mths and needing a lot of time. Large enough head with a good expression, front ok, ample bone, moved well coming towards but a little unsettled going away. Retained a good outline in profile.

Class 2443 PB (2 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: BARNEY Mrs D Cilleine That'll Be The Day

9 mths R/S, not the largest but very well balanced. Nice head with good turnup, decent front, well ribbed cobby body, good bone, tight red coat. She was reluctant to make the best of herself, but moved out true front and back.

Class 2444 JB (3 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: BARNEY Mrs D Cilleine Everyday

9 mth R/R and litter sister to the winner of the last class. Full of breed type, compact and sturdy, good head, neck and shoulder, correct rib carried a good body. Coat in good order, she is very true out and back and strides out well in profile, this carried her through to Res CC & BPIB.

2nd:SELBY, Mr M & WHITEHEAD Miss F Zilcan Ultra Chic

Another nice bitch who again was sturdy, cobby and carried a good body. Expressive head, good legs and feet, today not in her best coat. Good Topline and tailset. Not as settled on the move as the winner and was a little careless going away, good coming towards and decent length of stride in profile.

3rd: BARANOVA Mrs O V Harpersband Orinoco Flow

Class 2445 PGB (2 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: HUGHES, Mrs M & CRAWFORD Mrs S Beauborne Demelza

2 R/R Good rib and body, well boned front, Topline could be firmer, coat of good texture, good legs and feet. She move out well front and back.

2nd:HERSHAW Mrs T Beauview Sun Blessed

2 yrs R/R and much finer all through than the winner, I would prefer a better spring of rib and she could carry more body to advantage, balanced head, on the move she was OK coming towards, a little unsettled going away. She retained a good outline in profile.

Class 2446 LB (2 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: SWINGE Miss M Balthazar Tainted Love

3 ys R/R who scored in outline, balanced all through, well constructed front, good Topline and tailset. We’ll presented coat of good texture. She was true coming towards, but could be stronger going away, good profile movement retaining a level topline.

 2nd:HUGHES, Mrs M & CRAWFORD Mrs S Beauborne Cassandra

2yrs BT, well off for body and rib, the first scored in topline standing and on the move. She was true coming towards but a touch close going away, large head, well placed eye, enough chin. Good legs and feet.

Class 2447 OB (5 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: PRICE Mrs A B Ch Marquant Euphoria

This R/R is of true breed type, well boned front, nice head, neat ears, dark eye. Clean over the neck and shoulder, good width in front, coat presented in good order, good ribs and carrying a super firm body, good tailset and carriage. She was true on the move out and back. Pleased to award her CC & BOB.

 2nd:MERCER Mr P & Mrs M A Emjaycee Country Blossom At Fennymore

A quality R/S, not a big one but certainly balanced. Quality head and eye, enough neck, good width in front. Tight smooth coat, strong hindquarters, on the move she was not as positive behind as I have seen her, good coming towards and gave a good picture in profile.

3rd: SWINGE Miss M Vendettas Tangerine Balthazar (Swed Imp)
