Scottish Shetland sheepdog Club Ch. Show Dogs
I was delighted to judge the SSSC dog classes ,and really pleased with my main winners, most of the dogs were new to me and I had some very nice surprises. I was disappointed at the significant number of dogs with short tails, tail bone inches short of the hock joint, -the tail isn’t an afterthought , but the continuance of the spine, required to act as a rudder for swift and accurate turning and swerving when on the move ,that teamed with the weak pasterns and poorly shaped feet of some would indicate they wouldn’t really be fit for a working function! Significant number of dogs were unable to place their rear feet correctly fully on the floor, standing on toes with much of the pad visible, not good for shock absorption or longevity of joints later in life I believe.
MPD
1. Donallin Tri A Bit Of Magic; Mr A Purvis; DOB 8 month old; Very raw baby who needs time to grow on - sweet boy with good bone and nice legs and feet and moves along very smartly - presented in lovely condition, coat having super bloom and shine - well schooled for his age - good planes to his head - nice dark eye and well used ears, good body.

1. Tooralie OchoRios; Mrs SJ Walker; what a little star! Really charmed by this handsome young man, quite a mature pup for his 9 months, who put in a performance akin to any 3 year old! Presented in lovely thick glossy double coat of correct texture & lovely rich colour , extremely well balanced elegant boy who stood on exceptionally good legs and super feet , stood totally four square with good strong hocks and very flexible pasterns lacking in so many , masculine ,nice size with good length of leg , well angulated both ends , nice length of loin and good strong top line , one of the few with a correctly carried long well set tail , good arched well-muscled neck , nice deep rib , lovely length of head of good planes and pleasing expression, nice dark eye of good shape although little fuller than my ideal, but as his head matures should all come together even better. ears of good size, correctly set ,well tipped and used , super showman who strides out cleanly , just pipped the OD to the top spot in final run off, should have very exciting future CC/BPD/BOS, lost out in BIS to BCC on maturity only , RBIS on referees decision.
2 Zaniah Mono Tone of Drumchauchlie; Miss S Sangster; 9 month old b/w of very pleasing type, very attractive head of good length which handles particularly well, lovely moulded foreface and cheeks, and super shaped almond dark eye, sweet expression, good lips and under jaw, pleasing ribs and body, well angulated with excellent neck, just needs bit more training and time to come together but moves freely and true.

2.Highbrook Hobnob JW; Mr. K. & Mrs. L.A. Goodwin; 14 month s/w; Beautifully presented in excellent coat, lovely neck. Very nice stifles and rear to feel. Like so many of the entry would prefer with longer tail. Good top line, trained to advantage, unfortunately was not moving as well today. Preferred the length of head and type of 1

1.Willowthorn Dream Gazer JW ShCM; Miss GE Jacobs & Mr R & Miss V Johnson; 2 year old, very attractive sound workman like dog, presented in lovely coat and condition, well sized masculine male with lovely long tail. Very well balanced body and presents a lovely picture standing and on the move. Very fluid mover, little heavier in head than my ideal but that doesn’t distract from his overall sound appeal., preferred eye, expression and elegance in head of 2 &3.
2.Stiosan Still Game; Proctor's; 18 month old Very pleasing elegant boy who has plenty of time on his side, bit on the thin side and rather narrow in rib for me as he stands today, but lovely size, refined ,balanced and with a pleasing neck. Quality flat skull and good length of head with well moulded foreface. Should make very nice boy when matured and bodied up.
3.Castlerose Foxtrot; Edwards

1.Sandwick Curtain Call at Donmarvic; Mr & Mrs VJ & Miss DJ Lewis; D; 28/01/17
Very glamorous upstanding ,all masculine dog of wonderful rich colour, who caught my eye on entering the class and was difficult to get past. Has the most superb legs and feet so sadly lacking in many of the exhibits, good flexible strong pasterns and is such a lovely balanced dog with lovely deep rib ,so sound & standing four square, moving with great drive and reach, rather exuberant temperament & fond of his tail though .Well laid shoulder, great neck and strong top line. Presented in lovely bloom with great shine to his correctly textured double harsh coat. Very appealing dog who was high up and strong contender for top honours, just a little too much width in head and strength in cheeks for me in the end . But a real quality dog.
2.Amethrickeh Stormi Wizard; Miss S Sangster; D; 3 ½ yr. old b/m boy of lovely build & colour ,has coat of the harshest coarse texture, slightly heavier boned legs for his size than my ideal ,quality dog but was not so settled today ,well set and used ears of good size , nice top line and lovely long flowing tail. Would prefer less width of head and skull & bone for me, but a very attractive well-made dog.
3.Viewdale Cuddly Duddley JW; I Isdale; D; 19/09/16;

1,Castlerose Star Turn JW ShCM; J & J Edwards; D; Elegant racy ,rangy 3 yr. tri who still needs bit more time to reach his best I believe. Lovely length of head and nice foreface, good length of back and sweep over the croup ,leading on down to a well angulated rear with lovely stifles. Not the most outgoing of boys, but moves true both ways, good dense black jacket of harsh texture.
Carmeva Caymen ShCM; Mrs G Malone; D; Very pleasing nearly 6 yr. old handsome dark rich shaded sable with a nice dark eye, super foreface but little wide in skull for me. Strides out well on the move, carries good neck and beautifully presented, tending to stand little tucked up today.
Rannerdale The Entertainer; Mrs AA Stafford; D; 12/07/16
OD
Ch Sandwick Stagelight JW; Mrs J Hardy; D; 28/01/17; upstanding handsome male of good size & excellent proportions, so sound. Dense black harsh jacket, with rich tan, pleasing eye of good shape and kind expression, good flat cheeks and skull, most superb well boned legs and feet of correct shape, well-padded and with strong flexible pasterns. Stands four square, well angulated stifles, good length of tail and good strong top line, excels in fore chest lacking in so many. Moved out well, would have been my CC winner, but cooled off & didn’t give of his best in the Challenge, so had to settle for RCC against the youngster who outperformed him at the end today.
Ch & Aust Ch Hartly How About Me at Molson (Imp Aust); Dr J Hill; D; 4yr old pale sable , who stands well and is an excellent showman. Very clean head with dark eye, very high ears- although well used, good underjaw and chin. Smaller and shorter coupled than 1, with a little more refinement. Well angulated both ways and quite good length of neck , lovely reach in front and shows good clean pair of heels going away., body well coated ,especially at the front ,but little sparse in trousers and tail featherings today .

So well angulated and moves so smoothly , has excellent teeth , doesn’t give of his best when showing ,but no denying he’s a lovely dog.
2.Ch Highbrook Hot Heir JW; Mr. K. & Mrs. L.A. Goodwin; D; 8 yr old boy who on the other hand stands and is presented so well, handsome boy with good neck ,good depth of chest; nice bone and elegant outlook, although was not moving at his best today , good eye and exceptionally well set and used ears .
