Driffield Championship Dog Show

Breed: Retriever (Golden)

GOLDEN RETRIEVERS

Judge: Miss Angela G Cooper (Dikeadaze)

I would like to thank the officers and committee of Driffield Agricultural Society for the invitation to judge and for their great hospitality. A well run show and lovely to watch the Gundog group with them all in evening dress, which added that little extra to a lovely gundog group at the end of the day.

When I saw the entry for this show on paper I was disappointed and worried that I may not find the quality I was looking for to award stud book numbers and of course Challenge certificates. But on the day I was very pleased with my winners and challenges. I thank the exhibitors for making this journey on a Friday and bringing their dogs for me to judge. I will say that in many of the classes I was more than happy with the quality of the dogs, and I had to make some very difficult decisions, taking into consideration minor details, of behaviour, coat and condition, which could change on a different day. It was disappointing that there were no Dog puppies present and very few bitch puppies, as it is always lovely to see the potential of our future possible champions. Many exhibits showed great interest in the grass whilst on the move and sometimes this did affect the placings.

YEARLING DOG (12, 1 Ab)

What a lovely class. I had to make some difficult choices in this class, mainly on behaviour and exuberance of youth, but I will say I would be more than happy for any of the 5 dogs placed in this class to have been awarded a first.

1st and 2nd in the class were different in type but their confirmation shares many of the same qualities. Two very worthy champions

1ST Miss L & Ms I Dunbar SH CH LINIRGOR TOMICH JW, What can I say, I was very pleased to award him the CC, although the winners from Veteran, Yearling, and Limit were always in full contention today. He was nicely settled in the dog challenge, and I loved the overall picture this dog presented. My comments as with the others in my line up, and I fear repeating myself in his critique. Masculine head good reach of neck flowing into well laid back should with correct length of upper arm placing his front legs well under his body. Well angulated front and rear, good width of second thigh, short coupled with level topline. Well handled and presented in good coat. Moved well with drive. In the challenge for BOB his excitement of returning to the ring and youthful exuberance, lost him the challenge on movement.
