Thanks to Midland Counties for asking me to “adjudicate”, my stewards, and the exhibitors. Also thanks to the caterers for an excellent judges lunch. It was interesting to see the breed has been increasing the number of imports and to a beneficial effect. Today I was presented with some very nice youngsters and adults with type, soundness and good temperament, even though I did not see a mature specimen that knocked my eye out. Some of the best ones had rolls of flesh on their cheeks, i.e. were cheeky. This is an age-old feature, but has never been desirable. Many deservedly have tickets or will get tickets, but for my BOB I went for present quality and even more future promise.

1ST

Piscopo Del Fracasso of Bledig (IKC) (Ms R J King) Still much to come, but a puppy of great promise. Moved very well for a youngster. Nice deep muzzle, but could be darker to contrast with a fawn coat. Otherwise, this pup is just where you would want it to be at this stage, and I look forward to seeing his development. Best Puppy.

2ND

Lionguard Ooh Ahh Cantona of Wiggenhall (Mr A & Mrs T Facey) A nice brindle with much to offer. Literally good from head to foot, already deep in chest. Preferred the movement of my 1st.

1ST

Faynad Grizzly (Mr G Zadeh) Well-boned fawn of good proportions. Moved well but stood slightly straight. Slightly long in the muzzle, but head proportions will still change.

2ND

Toadhall Mr Bumble of Arleith (Imp NZ) (Mr J & Mrs C Whelan) Preferred the head to 1st, but lost out on overall body proportions. High in back at this stage, but juniors are very young in Mastiffs.

1ST

Mullack Trojan Titan (Mr K Dickenson) Brindle with good head with a short muzzle and dark eyes. Good length of body. Well angulated.

2ND

Cyberus Kapong (Mrs L Edwards) A fawn with length and a good body shape in a very even class that could be placed in another order on another day.

3RD

Cyberus Apollo of Penychen (Mr P & Mrs C Popp)

1ST

Midas Assisi at Cyberus (Imp Deu) (Mr S D & Mrs T B Andrew) Quality fawn, substantial, good bone, well angulated and moved eye-catchingly well. Good sized head, but for me a bit cheeky. Reserve Dog CC.

2ND

Craiglestone Lord Thudfoot (Mr.C A Hazlewood), Another substantial fawn, but a little reluctant. Good bone and a good head.

1ST

Kumormai Grand Theft Auto (Mrs E Knight) Of all the Mastiffs on show today, this is the one I would have liked to take home. A tall fawn with excellent bone, rising two years but another year or more maturing to do, as you expect of this type of Mastiff. Excellent lines in profile and moving strongly and smoothly, this is the sort of Mastiff that will attract the eye of the group judge. The essentials of the head are there, but these too will improve over the next year plus. Dog CC & BOB.

2ND

Collateral To The Future Bailey at Cyberus (IKC) (Mr S D & Mrs T B Andrews) Another good fawn, well made and powerful. Moved well. A solid head, but another I would have preferred with a cleaner cheek.

Faynad Alfred The Great (Mr G Zadeh)

1ST

Lionsguard Fergies Fantasy at Lukesland (Mrs R J Waterfield) Good sized brindle bitch, head still immature, but body quite forward, moving as expected for age. Nice puppy.

2ND

Morganlefay's Iron Maiden (Miss J M Bowdery) A black brindle that is a little gem, but may never make typical size. Very sound for a youngster, well angulated and well proportioned. A nice dark eye in a pleasing head.. Could be formidable if she grows.

Junior - Bitch

1ST

Hexnorden Everlong for Nordicface (Mr A & Mrs T Facey) Mature fawn, deep, substantial body. Moved strongly on well angulated legs. Dark mask and good bite. I felt she stood out among the bitches and was surprised to find she was not a champion. Bitch CC.

2ND

Ch Mulaloo Midwinter Spirit (Mr G & Mrs D Harding) Good short broad head and nice eye. A little straight in the stifle, which affected movement. Otherwise nice.
