Pyrenean Mountain Dogs

My first time judging our breed, in a long time, and I really enjoyed the experience at this super show. My thanks to the club for the invitation and my competent steward Brian who kept things ticking over nicely. Many thanks to those entered and exhibited a lovely set of dogs, every last one of them, and all displayed wonderful calm and confident temperaments. It was a quite a cold morning in the cattle shed and that means it was perfect weather for our beautiful breed to go about their business in comfort.

I was very happy to note my winners went on to do good things in very well attended group judging and specials.

My main winners were:

BOB & PG2 - Waters’ Zagal De Alba De Los Danzantes With Sketrick (Imp Esp)

BP & Puppy PG4 – Tadd’s Kricarno Krystal Kopykat

Special mention to my RBOB, Dearman & Henson’s Shiresoak Nanook At Pyrkees who took 5th from 19 in the RBoB Winners Competition.

Puppy (3/2)

1st Tadd’s Kricarno Katchmeifyoukan: 8-month girl of pleasing breed type showing good size and substance for her age. All white and dark pigmented throughout. She has a lovely expression with correctly set ears, dark eyes, dark lips and the correct scissor bite. Good spring of rib and depth of chest. Good length to upper arm and laid-back shoulder giving reach on the move.

Junior (1/0)

1st Tadd’s Kricarno Krystal Kopykat: Another 8-month girl of very pleasing breed type, all white and well pigmented. I later found out she was litter sister to my first in Puppy. A little lighter in build, a fraction taller and a finer head. Beautiful expression with small well-set ears, good length of muzzle with tapers, dark eyes and lips with tight lips and correct scissor bite. Lovely length of neck running into well laid-back shoulders. A little narrow in width to her sister but a fine athletic and balanced shape in profile. Moved easily and with drive. Her point of hock and rear movement won me over and she was well deserving of Best Puppy.

Post Graduate (3/1)

1st Stratton-Baldwin’s Kricarno Kinetic: 2½ years old in lovely condition. Good size with strong bone. Pleasing in profile showing his angulation with nice point of hock. Strong hind quarters. Plenty of width front to rear. Good length of neck with good lay of shoulders held nice and close to the body. Another all white but again, pigment was good with amber eyes and tight black lips.

2nd Barnes’ Kricarno Kornish Kaous At Patablanca: 2 ½ years old and litter sister to one. Finer in type than her brother but a pleasant lass a little playful in the ring for her handler. Head correct with good ear set and character, dark pigment just preferred the stop of 1st. A little more upright in shoulder but moved well when settled. Strong hind quarters with good muscle tone. Correct depth of chest and spring of rib.

Open (5/4)

1st Zagal De Alba De Los Danzantes With Sketrick (Imp Esp): A little over 2½ years old a real stand-out boy strongly made, tall and athletic showing excellent angles and proportions in profile. Confident and happy. Beautiful smooth head with no stop, the millennium dome, the blunt “V”, lovely almond shaped eyes, tight black lips, scissor bite, muzzle tapers to top and sides all exactly as the standard requires. Some pale apricot blaireau patches. Good length of back and yet short coupled. Strong fore and aft with excellent point of hock and rounded croup. Moves soundly and powerfully looks like he could go on forever. BoB

2nd Shiresoak Nanook At Pyrkees: A little under 3½ years old another real handsome male. Very different type to 1 but unlucky to meet him today. Strong, powerful and of a more compact shape than 1. Very easy on the eye with the most attractive wolf grey blaireau markings to his face complimented with patch at the base of his tail. Strong smooth head with small ears held close to head, dark amber eyes, black eye rims and lips, scissor bit - it’s all good! Deep chested, excellent width, good spring of rib too. Well boned. Lovely strong movement covering the ground with ease. RBoB.
