East Anglian Gundog Society

I should like to extend my sincere thanks to the Officers and Committee for inviting me to judge at this well organised and friendly show.  I had a very enjoyable day and I very much appreciated the opportunity of this appointment to assess some lovely dogs.

The welcome and hospitality extended to me throughout the entire day was exemplary and I sincerely thank everyone for making this an enjoyable day for me.

Bracco Italiano – Open (1):

1ST Goode, Mr M & Mrs K, Owlspoint King Of Trouble At Brackenvale JW ShCM: I have now judged this lovely example of the breed from a relatively early age and watched him mature. He is so very true to breed type – extremely well balanced all through with the correct outline that I look for - he has a typical head and very noble expression, with correct, clean and complete dentition. So sound all through and well muscled and then he moves – he was slightly restricted in ring size today but he still showed that wonderfully elasticated stride that can only be really appreciated when viewed in side profile. Despite standing alone today, a thoroughly well deserved Best Of Breed and I was excited to later learn that he had been awarded Gundog Group 3.

Retriever Curly Coated - Post Graduate (2-1abs):

1ST Hurrell, Mr K & Mrs J M E, Bellacurlys Hamilton Merc: A male dog of nearly 4 years, good size with good head in proportion to body size, dark eye, correct, complete and clean dentition, strong neck into well-placed shoulder, deep chest, strong loin, moderate turn of stifle, good bone all through and in good coat. On the move he never quite got into anything approaching correct gait, perhaps the ring surface just unsettled him. RBOB

Curly Coated Retriever – Open (3):

1ST Vauhkonen, Mr J, Ametyst Inti Anka: A dog of just over 2 years of age. Presented a pleasing outline, pleasing head and expression, correct eye, correct, clean and complete dentition, neck of medium length, well placed shoulder and return of upper arm, good deep chest and well sprung ribs, good bone throughout, not in the best of coats, moved very well both accurate fore and aft. BOB.

2ND Solomon, Mr K & Mrs M, Elkysar Red Horizon: A 3 year old bitch with good head and strong neck, deep chest, and strong loin, moderate turn of stifle, moved OK but was distracted by her dam also being present in the ring.

3RD Solomon, Mr K & Mrs M, Elkystar Eytukan

Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever – Junior (3):

1ST Newson, Ms D & Miss T, Tivalake Let’s Misbehave JW: Lovely young male of 11 months of age. Very striking and extremely well balanced who presented a very good outline stacked. Very good type. Head of good proportions and in balance, with pleasing expression. Correct, clean and complete dentition. Very good forehand layback of shoulder and corresponding return of upper arm. Ribcage of good length into strong loin. Well made hindquarters, moderate turn of stifle, excellent bone throughout. Moved very well and accurate both fore and aft showing a good open gait in profile. Best Puppy and Reserve Best Of Breed. Additionally, I was pleased to see this young dog placed in the Reserve Best Of Breed class.

2ND Smith, Mrs K, Tivalake Anything Goes At Tollisty: Attractive and very feminine bitch of 11 months of age, good size and proportions for age, although not as mature as the first placed dog, her litter brother but could swap places at any time. Very nice head and soft expression, correct, clean and complete dentition, correct ear placement and carriage, super neck into well placed shoulders and corresponding return of upper arm, well made hindquarters, moderate turn of stifle, moved extremely well.

3RD Chapman, Miss C, Katimba Trebbiano At Dkai

Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever – Post Graduate (3):

1ST Elkin, Miss M L, Tollekin Water Dancer: A 3 year old bitch, very balanced, adequate bone, very feminine with pleasing head, expression and eye, strong neck into well placed shoulder, deep chest moderate turn ostifle, moved out very.

2ND Collins & Powley, Miss D & Miss C, Danehaven Kovik: Male of just over 2 years of age, good size and in excellent coat of good quality. Very good masculine head with medium eye, good bone, tight round feet, forequarters and hindquarters good with elbows close to body. Moved well once settled although a little closer going away than I prefer.

3RD Chapman, Miss C, Decoysmans The Dreamworker.

Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever – Open (2):

1ST Strevens, Miss H, SH CH Erikachen Conaire At Tollisty JW ShCM: Quality 3 year old example of the breed that I Judged on a number of occasions. Presented in very good hard condition with quality coat. In both profile and outline there is no denying his quality and balance. Excellent and slightly wedge-shaped head with moderate stop, correct eye, medium size ears, correct, clean and complete dentition, strong neck into well placed shoulders and corresponding return of upper arm deep chest with brisket that reaches elbow, short level back, strong loin and well muscled hindquarters with moderate turn of stifle. Quality bone all through, moved well but coming in he was slightly out at elbow with the corresponding resultant effect of a front action that ‘pinned’ in - the overall quality of this dog won him the class and Best Of Breed.

2ND Andrews, Miss J, Fallowfen Faithful Yoko Of Jemmatee: A 6 year old bitch, of pleasing type, feminine head and soft expression, correct, clean and complete dentition. Slightly stuffy in neck, deep chest short loin, and didn’t move with the free flowing accuracy of the first placed dog.
