Eastbourne and District Canine Society

24th June 2018

Thank you to the committee of Eastbourne for the invitation to judge. It was very hot today so thank you to the exhibitors for bringing your dogs and moving them as much as I asked.

Rottweiler

Class 269 Junior (2/2)

1st 608 Evans’ Paloduro Gold Dollar at Maddiecass

13 month old male, broad skull with a well-defined stop. Dark eye and pigmentation, correct bite and strong jaw. He used his ears well, giving him an alert expression. Strong, muscular neck into well laid shoulders. Nice amount of bone with straight legs, into compact feet. Forechest, depth of chest and ribcage developing well. Slightly longer than he is tall, with a good topline which he held on the move and a good tailset and carriage. Good bend of stifle, strong hocks and very well muscled for his age. I would prefer him slightly taller however he is in proportion. He moved with purpose and drive, working hard for his handler. Pleased to award him Best of Breed.

2nd 607 Chamberlain’s Rebeckmar Cass

17 month old bitch, made along lighter lines than the first. Pretty head with dark eyes and correct bite. Good neck into decent shoulders, preferred the forechest of the first dog. Medium bone, with straight legs and lovely feet. Good topline, tailset and carriage. Nice turn of stifle and she moved well. She is just a bit leggy at this stage but a sweet girl who was very attentive to her handler.

Class 270 Postgraduate (2/3)

1st 608 Evans’ Paloduro Gold Dollar at Maddiecass

Repeat from Junior, won this class on his positive, driving movement.

2nd 609 Ezzard & Allen’s Jodipas Paint it Black to Kassasan

3 year old bitch, feminine without lacking in strength. Beautiful head shape with nice eye. Not using her ears well today and seemed a little distracted despite the best efforts of her handler. Strong jaws with the correct bite. Slight arch to neck into well laid shoulders. Again, I preferred the forechest of the first dog. Well off for bone with round, compact feet. Good topline, tailset and carriage. Another who is well muscled with a good turn of stifle and strong hocks. When settled, she moved well but just didn’t have the drive of the winner.

Class 271 (0/1)

Siberian Husky

Class 274 Junior (5/5)

I found this class very difficult to judge as there was such a variety of types present, thank you to the handlers for putting up with me moving you all several times.

1st Bowden & Hughes’ Nordicface Aurora Yukon at Staggan

16 month, well grown black and white dog who took my eye as he entered the ring, a real showman who was well aware of what was expected of him. Masculine, chiselled head, dark eyes, erect ears that he really used well. Nice length of muzzle with correct bite and strong jaw. Medium neck into well laid, muscular shoulders. Plenty of bone without appearing heavy. Straight legs, good pasterns and compact feet. Deep chest and well sprung ribs which did not impede his movement. Level topline and muscular loin with correct tailset. Well bent stifles with low set hocks. His movement was effortless with a fabulous driving action from behind. Lovely coat and in excellent condition all through, however I would not like to see him get any bigger.

2nd Riaubyte’s Fire In Paws The Lord Snow (IMP POL)

Just six months old and a real cheeky boy. Lighter in build than the first dog however still masculine. Foxy head with dark brown eyes giving a friendly, alert expression. Good length of muzzle with the correct bite. Medium neck into decent shoulders, not as well muscled as the first dog but I would expect that given his young age. Medium bone, with straight legs and oval feet. Nice depth of chest and ribs developing well. Good topline and loin with a slight tuck up. Nice bend of stifle and, again, musculature is coming along. He really won me over on his movement which was so fluid and easy with excellent reach and drive. Pleased to award him Best Puppy in Breed and then see him take Puppy Group 4.

Class 275 Postgraduate (3/4)

1st 622 Nicholls’ Arcticskies Got It Flaunt It for Shyllar

2 year old red bitch. Beautiful, feminine head with sparkling eyes which tell me she’s not always this well behaved. Nice length of muzzle with the correct bite and strong jaw. Medium length, well muscled neck. Good lay of shoulder with firm muscle. Straight legs with moderate bone and nice feet. Good depth of chest with nice spring to ribs. Level, strong topline which she held on the move. Good bend of stifle and well let down hocks, nice musculature all through. Lovely coat condition. Best mover in the class, with a steady driving action.

2nd 838 Johns’ Azgard Karma for Alepenkye

9 month bitch who the more I watched, the more I liked. She was fourth in the previous class as she was unsettled and not showing herself to the best of her abilities. She was much more settled in this class and was close up to the first. Feminine, fox-like head with almond shaped, sparkling eyes. Using her ears much better in this class which really helped her expression. Good muzzle with correct bite. Neck of medium length into good shoulders with muscles developing well. Straight legs with moderate bone and compact, oval feet. Chest and ribs coming along nicely. Straight and strong topline into slightly sloped croup and well furred tail. Moved much more fluently in this class than the previous with good reach and drive.

Class 276 Open (3/3)

1st Bowden & Hughes’ Shamsky Ee’lahn Shona at Staggan

4 years old, this bitch is in prime condition. Beautiful head with keen expression, using her medium ears strongly suggesting she is ready for action. Nice length of muzzle, strong jaw with correct bite. Moderate neck flowing into well laid shoulders. Medium bone and standing on straight legs, with good pasterns and compact, oval feet. Strong, level topline, very good spring of rib and depth of chest without being too wide. Taut and lean loin with a slight tuck up. Upper thighs very well muscled with well bent stifled and strong, low set hocks. Carried her well furred tail elegantly. Smooth and fluid movement which looked easy for her, she could have run all day. Pleased to award her Best of Breed and see her shortlisted in a very competitive Working Group.

2nd Midgley’s Esquimaux Glorious at Nativespirit

A veteran at 7 years old, though I don’t think she knows this. Lovely, foxy head with keen expression, and using her ears well. Nice muzzle with correct bite. Moderate length of neck into decent shoulders. Medium bone, straight legs standing on oval feet. Level topline with good depth of chest and spring of rib. Still carrying a nice amount of hard muscle on her hinds with a good turn of stifle and low set hocks. Just not as fluid on the move as the younger bitch however still keen to work for her handler.

Australian Shepherds

Class 285 Junior (2/2)

1st Fuller’s Trijem Single Digit

8 month old black tri dog who was very full of himself. Masculine, clean, dry head with equal length of muzzle to skull. High set ears, almond shaped eyes with sparkling, alert expression. Correct bite with strong jaw. Clean, strong neck into long shoulder blades. Good front angulation with excellent forechest. Good amount of oval bone, standing on straight fronts and excellent feet with well arched toes. Level topline, deep chest with well sprung ribs. Strong, broad, well muscled loin and slightly sloping croup. Balanced and moderate angulation at the back with well let down hocks. Nice coat condition with a mane that accents his masculinity. Powerful, ground covering movement with still just a touch of puppy roll. Pleased to award him Best Puppy in Breed.

2nd Gillingham’s Silverdreams Aussies Your Destiny at Parkgrove (IMP)

Extremely feminine 11 month old merle bitch. Not as outgoing as the first dog but not at all shy. Very pretty, clean head with expressive eyes. Correct bite with good jaw. Clean neck into good shoulders. Front angulation is good but I preferred the forechest of the male. Good bone with straight legs and nice, round feet. Topline not as level as the first dog but this may settle with maturity. Good depth of chest and spring of rib developing. Good rear angulation with muscles just beginning to firm up. Moved well just didn’t quite cover the ground as well as the first.

Class 286 Postgraduate (0/0)

Class 287 Open (2/2)

1st Fuller’s Trijem Think Outside the Box

4 year old, beautifully balanced, black bi bitch who I could watch all day. Attractive, clean head with intelligent expression from her amber eyes. Good length of muzzle to skull with moderate stop. High set, well used ears. Excellent pigmentation, strong jaw and correct bite. Clean, slightly arched neck flowing into long, well laid shoulders. Well angulated front with moderate, oval bone. Straight fronts with slightly sloping pasterns and excellent compact feet. Level topline with deep chest and ribs carried well back. Slight tuck up under her strong loin. Hindquarters well balanced with fores, moderate turn of stifle, well let down hocks with strong, lean muscle. On the move she really showed what she can do, the agility and fluidity of movement was stunning to watch; ground covering, with fabulous reach and drive. Pleased to award her Best of Breed.

2nd Knott’s Lyveden Texas Ranger

Striking 3 year old blue merle dog. Another well balanced dog who was masculine throughout without being heavy. Dry head with a slightly rounded skull. Expressive, mischievious eyes and alert high set ears. Strong jaw with the correct bite. Clean neck into good shoulders. Nicely angulated front with good forechest. Straight legs, good bone and excellent feet. Level topline with good spring of rib and depth of chest. Moderate rear angles with good musculature. A little proud of his tail when on the move. However his movement was free and agile, he just didn’t cover the ground as well as the bitch.
