Chelmsford and District Canine Society – Judges Report – Dogue de Bordeaux – 7th May 2018

Puppy (3 ent 1 abs)

Both puppies in this class are very promising babies, both had qualities that could have reversed the places another time, I was splitting hairs between them but felt my winner moved a little stronger on the rear.

1st – Martin & Munyati’s – Lionsrivers Thunder storm - Male puppy of just 6 months old who I was later told was at his first show, a confident baby who took it all in his stride, scores well in head proportions and once matured should have a super head indeed, his skull already has some width too it and is well rounded, his jaw is strong and he has a good definition of both stop and chin, good dentition, neat well placed ears, eyes of good shape and complimentary in colour to his coat colour and no mask, his neck at this tender age of course needs to gain its width but its set well and flows well into good shoulder placement, this youngster has a super front assembly, his forelimbs have super bone which is strong and straight, his chest has some depth and width already and will only improve with age, he holds a good top line for a baby, tail set on well and well angulated at the rear, although raw in movement and moved like a baby he was true coming and going and displayed reach and drive on side gait, handled very well and one I will watch with interest, Best puppy RBOB, Puppy Working Group 4.

2nd – McCoy’s Loggerheads Star Man at Bullshola - Another quality male puppy not quite a couple of weeks older in age to 1, again another super puppy, he is at this point a little stronger in head than my first placed puppy, again has good dentition, well set ears and eyes of good shape, a tad lighter in colour than the winners eye colour and despite his coat being a slightly richer colour than the first place puppy his eye colour still compliment’s. There is very little to separate these two babies in bone, both ample boned, strong and straight, he is well angulated fore and aft and has a good top line with slight slope of croup, moved well and soundly, to be picky a tad close in rear action but he is such a baby its expected at this age, two lovely babies.

Special Yearling (1 ent 1 abs)

Post Graduate (1 ent 0 abs)

1st – McCoy’s Bellamiabam’s Just Two of us at Bullshola – A substantial male of 19 months old, displays strength with a strong outline, super bone throughout which is strong and straight and stood on good feet, despite the heat today he was a very willing mover and moved out with powerful reach and drive, his chest has good width, would like a little more depth but at 19 months he has plenty of time on his side, he has a good head with a super width of skull, well defined stop and broad muzzle, his jaw is strong with good curve on the lower jaw, his neck is so broad and strong and he has a clean wither which also displays good width across, his back is broad and strong and he has a good rump and well set on tail, would like a tad more turn of stifle but that said his rear movement is still strong, powerful and super sound throughout, a well deserved Best of Breed and lovely to see him take the 4th spot in what was a super adult working group, well done.
