SELKIRK & DCS  OPEN SHOW 15th APRIL 2018   

I was very pleased with the quality of the BIS and BP line-ups with some quality dogs put through by the judges from the other groups. Thank you for inviting me to judge at this well run show.   

AV SPECIAL VETERAN DOG (10) 

1st McGuffie DRUMKILTY URQUHART OF MILLTIMBER   This Golden Retriever headed a class of quality veterans. Masculine head, deep in muzzle with kind dark eye. Good straight front, with good return to upperarm, adequate rear angulation and when stacked he presents a balanced and symmetrical outline. Loved his colour and shown in good coat. Won the class on his sound free and true movement. Well handled to take BVIS 

2nd Tullis DRUMSHEUGH TRUE GRIT SHCM West Highland White Terrier  Good head proportions with plenty of stop, dark eye and correct bite. Shoulders well sloped. Moved steadily off strong hocks holding his topline well. A credit to his owner at 11 years.  3rd Williamson KELJARU LOVELY JUBBLY Irish Setter   

AV SPECIAL VETERAN BITCH (13) 

1st Armstrong CARRICKFARM MIKA Sh CM Border Terrier  Liked her head and expression, with broad skull. Good length of neck, good shoulders and straight front with thickly padded feet. At 9 years old still moving out well thoroughly enjoying her day. Res BVIS 

2nd Ewart BEAUPIPPIN MOONLITE ORCHID Sh CM Golden Retriever  Lovely head and expression with good pigmentation. Clean neck, with well laid shoulders, good depth of rib and stifles well angulated. Very well made throughout and moved freely.  

3rd Gate's LACETROM CRUIVIE SHCM Keeshond   

ROTTWEILER  OPEN (4) 

1st Baillie & Shaw; STAIRVALE FRAZER  This was a mixed class age wise. My first was a six month old puppy. Well proportioned in head with dark eye. Excellent front assembly, broad chest and well off for bone and already well developed thighs. A very sound mover, holding topline well. BOB and BP but unable to compete any further on the day as his breeder was judging the group. Should have a bright future. 

2nd Deas PERLA LEGEND OF KNEZ (IMP SRB)  Another pleasing youngster, broad in head with deep muzzle. Good front and shoulders with well developed rear quarters. Very alert and attentive to handler. Preferred the rear drive of my first place. 

3rd Velcheva-Bozhkov GVIDO KING OF THE EAST (IMP SRB)               

COCKER SPANIEL 

GRADUATE (8)  A lovely quality class with a wide variety of age ranges.  1st Wild GLENNTREE MERCEDES  Loved the head proportions of this 10 month black bitch with dark eye and square muzzle. Super neck length and good lay of shoulder. Well sprung ribs and good rear angulation, ample bone. A very confident youngster moving happily and soundly, presented in gleaming coat, my BP and Puppy Group 2 

2nd Todd & Rahman; MARQUELL MIJAS BREEZE  Another pleasing youngster, sweet head and expression with ample stop. Shoulders well sloped, firm loin and adequate bend of stifle and correct tailset. Moved soundly and true. 

3rd Flowers TOTENKOPF DUTCH SPIRIT   

OPEN (3)  1st Todd & Rahman GLENNTREE TRADITION  Top quality back dog. Appealing in head with tight dark eye and correct low earset. He has a muscular neck leading to correct shoulder placement. Strongly built throughout, with short loin and adequate rear angulation and feet well padded. I found him very balanced throughout and a joy to watch on the move with his confident, happy and sound movement. Presented in pristine coat and condition and very well handled. My BOB and Group 1 and he put in a sterling performance at the end of the day to take BIS. I wish him well for the future. 

2nd Macfarlane COOLEELA ARIADNE  A well put together bitch. Lovely chiselled head, with dark and expressive eyes. Good depth to brisket, short coupled, shown in good coat, moved out well with a happy disposition.   

GOLDEN RETRIEVER 

JUNIOR (4)  1st Bradley CEILCAESAR CALENDAR GIRL  Feminine in head with good pigmentation. Good length of neck flowing into correct shoulder placement. Level topline and adequate turn of stifle. On the stack she is a lovely balanced shape and moved soundly with good rear drive. 

2nd McGuffie MILLTIMBER MORNING BREEZE  Another pleasing exhibit, good head proportions with kind dark eye. Straight front and well off for bone, correct tailset and moved out well, just preferred the overall outline of my winner.    

GRADUATE (4)  1st Harper GLYNERVA INDIANA JONES JW  A really well put together dog. Broad in skull with adequate stop, shoulders well placed and ribs well sprung. I found him balanced throughout with plenty of bone and substance. Moved out soundly and well coated. 

2nd Ewart BEAUPIPPIN DUSKY LILAC  Pleasing head with dark eyes. Good straight front, clean over neck. Well sprung ribs, and well angulated stifles. Found her slightly longer cast than my winner.         

OPEN (8)  1st Webster AMBLEMERE YOU SAY IT BEST AT BENJCROFT  A very pleasing young dog, really liked his head and expression with dark eye and deep muzzle. Very clean over neck and shoulders with ample return of upperarm. Plenty of heart room with well sprung ribbing and adequate rear angulation. Excels in his balanced outline on the stack. Moved well off strong hocks, shown in good coat and condition. BOB and my Group 2

FLAT COAT RETRIEVER 

0PEN (3)  1st McConnell FELDKIRK FEARGHAL AT TORRWEAVING  A well-constructed young dog that presented a balanced outline. Scores in head proportions with intelligent expression. Excellent forequarters with deep chest and has adequate bone. Strong and muscular hindquarters with good second thigh. Hocks well let down and moved with a sound even stride, presented in super condition. BOB 

2nd McConnell KAZVAL LUGANO AT TORRWEAVING  Another pleasing youngster but looking somewhat immature against my winner. Moderate reach of neck and good shoulder placement. Well coupled and moved soundly just needs coat and furnishings to complete the picture. 

3rd Laird LEVLIANN SWEET CHILLI PEPPA   

WELSH SPRINGER SPANIEL 

OPEN (2)  1st Tyler  HIGHCLARE MADE OF HONOUR AT EIRIANDYLIS  A very sound young bitch. Loved her head and expression, adequate stop and correct ear shape. She is already well developed in body with correct proportions. Well sprung ribs and stood on strong hocks which allowed her to move soundly with good rear drive. Just needs time to acquire her full furnishings to complete the picture. BOB 

2nd Mole & Knox TAMMANO CRAWHALL AT EDINCRAW  Pleasing in head with well-defined stop and well set ears. Good straight front, deep in brisket, ribs well sprung, correct rear angulation with good tail carriage. Just preferred the more positive movement of my winner.   

LABRADOR RETRIEVER 

GRADUATE (1)  1st Bell WESTERULSTON NOLA  A pleasing black bitch with excellent head proportions, intelligent expression. Good shoulders and front, neat tight feet. Well sprung ribs of good depth, well balanced throughout. One with lots to like about her but such a shame not moving positively today.   

OPEN (4)  1st Thomson AFINMORE ALYNNA AT TARASSTWEED  A well made bitch throughout with good broad skull and well defined stop. Good shoulder placement, clean over neck. Well sprung ribs, strong loin and muscular hindquarters.  Moved freely off strong hocks. BOB 

2nd Bell BRIGBURN SONORAN AT WESTERULSTON  Broad in skull, strong neck, good depth to body, well angulated and strong rear quarters. Carrying too much weight over shoulders today.   

AVNSC GUNDOG  

OPEN (14)  1st Nesbitt YORKHAM FRED BEAR FROM CHABROUILLE SHCM  A mature Sussex Spaniel headed this class. Quality head of good proportions. Strong neck and well sloped shoulders, strong over loin and well developed thigh. He is just so very well made throughout with adequate bone. Shown with plenty of coat and moved true. Best AVNSC and Group 3 

2nd Pilmer ANISBRIG TOBERMORY  This Irish R/W presented a clean and well balanced outline, correct head proportions with clean muzzle. Strong muscular neck and well laid shoulders. Has good oval bone and the desired good colour and coat texture. Sound movement and very well handled.

Group 4 Legg & Scott’s Hung Viz  RHAPSODY IN BLUE JW Sh CM   A quality bitch with good head proportions moderate stop, strong neck, well laid shoulders. She has correct short back, ribs well sprung and moved soundly with drive to take Group 4 and also my winner of the Open stakes class.   

GUNDOG PUPPY GROUP 

Group 1 Maclaine & Dickson’s Weimaraner GREYSPIRIT HOPE SO  A promising 8 months old bitch. Pleasing head and expression with adequate stop, clean over neck and good shoulders and front. Correct height to length ratio and presents a balanced outline when stacked. Moved soundly and confidently to take Puppy Group 1

Group 4 McCallum’s Irish Water Spaniel WEEMAES WONDERFUL REMARK   Good head proportions, pleasing alert expression. Strong and well sloped shoulders, firm throughout body and ample rear angulation. A free and confident mover.

BIS  was the Cocker Spaniel, Todd & Rahman GLENNTREE TRADITION  

RES BIS Drysdale’s Shetland Sheepdog DONALLIN SHADOW MAGIC FOR JONDREA ShCM. Attractive refined head with good reach of neck. Excellent shoulder placement and just so well constructed throughout. She looked so elegant in the line up, presented in full coat and glided soundly around the big ring to take Res BIS   

BPIS Todd’s Dobermann, HOLYHELL'S SERBIAN NIGHT FEVER AT TOFFARBACH (IMP SRB) A quality young Dobermann, best of heads with dark eye. Excellent shoulders, straight front and compact feet. muscular strong hindquarters. He moved so soundly and showed himself off to advantage. Shown in immaculate condition with lots of ring presence, a very worthy BPIS. 

RES BPIS Hinshelwood’s Lhasa Apso WONDER WOMAN ASTARTE GOLD WITH MUIRFAULD (IMP POL)  Appealing in head with dark eye. Well constructed front and firm body with well developed rear quarters. She has very typical and sweeping free movement and beautifully presented.
