Yorkshire Gundog Club

Spaniel (English Springer)

A lovely selection of spaniels, however I was slightly disappointed to see that most of the springers had large ‘blanket’ patches of colour instead of a larger number of smaller coloured areas. Though the distribution of markings is not specified in the standard, I feel that a more mixed set of markings is one of the breed’s most prominent characteristics and should be selected for.

P (1) 1. BPIB. Gregory’s Arcadia Alfa Romeo. Black and white dog, 8 months. Well boned and mature for age. Classic head and eye giving correct expression. Low earset, good length of neck leading to well laid back shoulders. Balanced rear angulation, correct low tailset. Neat feet, moved Ok after settling.

J (1) 1. Clarke’s Tigerrock Timmy Tim Tims. 14 month old. Would prefer a slightly longer muzzle to give better proportions in head. Good depth of chest, well ribbed. Compact in body. Tail a little high set but carried level on the move. Profuse coat, very well presented.

PG (2, 1 abs) 1. Long & Leeming’s Tryhard Tourde Yorkshire. 23 month old liver dog, very attractively marked. Classic head with fluting , well balanced, dignified expression, low earset. Nice angulation fore and aft, contributing to an efficient ground covering stride. A little short in body length. Excellent breadth in stifle, low tailset completed the picture.

O (5, 2 abs) 1, BoB & BIS 4. Tracz’s Melverly Desert Strike over Acregate JW Sh CM. Very pleased that this dog represented the breed so well at the end of the day - congratulations! A very ‘together’ dog, each part working well in unison to give a most attractive overall impression. Correct length of muzzle, low earset giving a kind and gentle expression. Well off for bone, good coat texture, looked like he would thoroughly enjoy a day’s work - moved with drive. 2. Drinkall’s Calvdale Maleficent of Esscroft. Was pleased to find that this bitch was daughter of the class winner. Not quite the head of her sire, being a fraction shorter in muzzle. Very pleasing though, lovely true front and good on the move. 3. Clarke’s Tigerrock Radio Ga Ga
