Firstly I would like to say a large thank you to the committee for the invitation to judge at this friendly and exceptionally well run show, and to the Irish Setter Club of Scotland for putting me forward for the appointment. Secondly I would like to say a very big thank you to all the exhibitors for their entries, the quality of all the dogs on the day was truly lovely to see and made for some very difficult decisions. Finally, I would like to say another thank you to my excellent steward Alec who kept everything running so smoothly.

Class 194 – Irish Setter Puppy

1st Davies' Lochfrae Kiki Dee 

BPIB 9 month old bitch, sweetest of heads, dark eye with raised brow and beautiful  chiselling, giving a gentle yet mischievous expression, long reach of neck set  cleanly into well laid back shoulders, excels in return of forearm and forechest,  good spring  of rib and strong through loin, good turn of stifle and well muscled.  Although very much a baby on the move, she showed lovely reach and drive, true  action both front and rear with adequate width at the rear, and covered the  ground well. 

2nd Borthwick's Lotushill Katsura 

A delicate 11 month old bitch, finer built throughout than one, racy in outline,  sweet  head showing a gentle expression, however I did prefer the finish to  foreface of one. Elegant neck set cleanly into nicely angulated forequarters. Not  the forechest of one, but nonetheless well ribbed with adequate depth of chest  and defined tuck up. Well muscled upper thigh and good turn of stifle however on  the move this girl seemed a little unsettled by markings on the floor so wasn't able  to show herself to her full  potential

1st  Sturrock's Forfarian Victoria's Secret 

Extremely elegant and ultra feminine 15 month old bitch, very mature for age.  Good  chiselling, low set ear, dark eye gave a soft but intelligent expression.  Beautiful reach of neck into well laid shoulders and adequate forechest. Balanced  angulation for and aft which combined with her excellent muscle tone made for  an exuberant and free flowing mover with lashing tail. A very promising young  bitch whom I will watch with interest.

Class 196 – Irish Setter Graduate

1st Murchinson's Pawsword Paperback Writer 

Substantial and well bodied young man, undeniably masculine throughout.  Handsomest of heads, not overdone in anyway, low set ear and dark eye, domed  skull with pronounced occiput into strong neck set cleanly into shoulders. Would  prefer perhaps a little more forechest but showing a good return of forearm and  straight front. Deep chest with good spring of rib into well muscled loin and neat  tuck up. Excellent width of upper thigh, good turn of stifle and balanced  angulation. Took a  little while to get into stride on the move but once he did he  was steady and true, maintaining his topline and showing a good width at the  rear.

Class 197 – Irish Setter Limit

1st Tupper & Rosie's Staratlanta Elliot ShCM 

Fully mature 4 year old dog, perfectly turned out in dripping coat, handsome in  head with dark eye, defined brow and neat flews giving a lovely cheeky  expression. Straight front with excellent depth of chest, well bodied and strong in  topline, well  developed hind quarters and good tailset. A very steady and happy  mover making the most of the ring 

2nd Hunter's Braidmount Lady In Waiting 

2 and a half year old bitch giving away a lot in maturity in this class, but  nonetheless  she pushed hard for 1st, pretty head with raised brow and domed  skull, strong arched neck cleanly set into lovely shoulder angulation and   pronounced sternum. Good spring of rib and defined tuck up, shorter coupled  and covering less ground than one but still balanced, excellent tailset and showing  good rear angulation into the neatest of feet. Not quite as settled as one on the  move however still showing a positive true action at the front. 

Class 198 – Irish Setter Open

An exceptionally strong class of three super quality bitches, I was spoilt for choice! 

1st Sturrock's Int Ch Forfarian You Sexy Thing (TAF) 

This bitch caught my eye as soon as she entered the ring and certainly didn't   disappoint once I got hands on. Dark eye of correct almond shape giving an alert  and inquisitive expression, neat in flew with balanced planes and excellent length  of foreface. Striking in outline; well boned but still delicate and perfectly balanced  fore and aft, great spring of rib and forechest, well muscled over loin and excellent  turn of stifle into short and neat pasterns and tight feet, showing a beautiful  topline which she maintained on the move. It is on the move where this bitch  really comes into her own, picture of poise and elegance  boasting a beautiful  reach and rear extension and driving well. Effortlessly covering the ground and at  one with her handler. She was a  delight to watch in the much larger group ring  where she was deservedly shortlisted in hot competition. Best Of Breed 

2nd Sturrock's Sh Ch Forfarian Hey Sexy Lady JW 

Litter sister to one and I was certainly having to split hairs between them. Shown  in pristine condition. More chiselling in head and stronger in brow than one, but still showing such femininity. Beautiful length of neck set into well set shoulders  and strong sternum. Excellent width of upper thigh emphasised by the lovely  muscle tone  in her rear quarters. Just showing a fraction less reach on the move  than her sister, but  still such a super quality girl so worthy of her many successes.
