North Of Scotland Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club

North Of Scotland Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club Limit Show

Special Award Classes

Saturday 24th November 2018

Firstly I would like to thank the Officers and Committee of the Club for the invite to judge at their show , a great opportunity for me as a new judge to get the experience of hands on dogs and numbers . My 2 stewards , Joe and Alex did a great job of keeping things running efficiently and not have too much impact on the main show. I was very pleased with my entry of 16 exhibits present on the day and thank every exhibitor for the opportunity .  A printing error with my judging book meant places were awarded to VHC but no Rosettes after Reserve so I apologise for this.

Special Award Puppy Dog / Bitch  (4, 1 abs)

For me this class was very difficult as 3 lovely pups all with promise but my job on the day was to place them in order and another day could be a totally different result

1st  Diamondstaff Bomber Broon  (Miss F Campbell & Mr G Irvine 11-12-17) Black Brindle boy that looks like hes going to be a strong one as he comes on and will certainly not look out of place when moving up classes shortly  . Strong headed with well placed dark eyes and tidy ears creating a keen expression , good width of front and ample bone , good front a rear angulations, moved ok and handled well holding a level topline, turned out in good condition for a youngster  . He was very alert throughout the class and this was the deciding factor for me , well done

2nd Tagstane Clach  (S Lowden 31-12-17) Black Brindle boy of similar age to my 1st place ,  head developing nicely with a good well defined stop , eyes just a touch lighter than my first place, ears ok . Generally a very clean dog ,overall, good bone and ample depth of brisket , good front a rear assembly all developing nicely and again in nice condition for a pup with a beautiful gleaming coat . Showed with confidence and handled well

3rd Eclypstaff Thumbelina (Mr & Mrs A Gallagher 27-1-18) Couldn’t not say a few words about this Brindle  girl  as the overall places were so close in my mind  . Very pretty and undeniably feminine with a lovely expression when she used it  and very well balanced . Everything coming on nicely . She was comfortable to be in the ring and managed a tail wag as I assessed her just seemed a little unsure of herself at times so not possessing the sparkle I was looking for . Later in the main show gaining BPIS so was obviously just warming up for her grand finale.

Special Award  Graduate Dog / Bitch (7, 2 abs)

1st  Kargonstaff Katana (Mr C Boyle 19-3-17) Black Brindle Boy that I previously judged as a puppy almost 12 months ago and how he has come on . Extremely well presented and showed with great confidence . Good strong head and not overdone , ears tidy and used well , eyes dark enough and very keen and alert thoughout class . Fitness was top notch on this boy and with a good basic construction he moved well up and down the mat holding a good topline and expertly handled.

2nd Mournestaffs Maia  (K Buchan 4-7-17 ) Black Brindle girl , notably feminine head , clean with enough underjaw  , good dentition with correct bite , tidy enough ears and eyes dark enough to create a keen expression which she used well throughout , clean front with enough depth of brisket , correct front and rear angulation , enough rib and correctly coupled . Moved well holding a level topline and well handled

3rd Midnight Prospect  (J Stephen 21-9-16 )

Special Award  Open Dog / Bitch  (11, 3 abs)

As a new judge I initially found this class quite daunting for size and variety in type and surprised myself with the outcome but good experience which I thank the exhibitors for .

1st  Bultery Show Girl  ( J & S McConnachie 25-3-17) Black Brindle girl that I had overlooked until I put my hands on her. Good feminine head with reasonable strength and very clean with good dentition  . Correct front and depth of brisket , she has lift but carried it well to produce a good outline from all angles , fitness was excellent , moved well holding her topline . I had to keep looking back when making my final decision and every time she was there watching me and that sealed the deal. A very well presented bitch that was handled expertly

2nd Diamondstaff Jack’N’Black ( Miss F Campbell and Mr G Irvine 4-2-16 ) Black Brindle boy I have judged 3 times now  and he doesn’t disappoint . A lovely head on him with neat ears and dark well placed eyes that create a very keen expression, though today he was just pipped at putting this to good use by my 1st place . Good front and rear angulations and a nice tuck up without being overdone. Moved well and handled well , superbly turned out with a good level of fitness

3rd Kargonstaffs Kowalski  (Mrs K , Mr C & Miss B Boyle 22-6-14 )
