Scunthorpe Canine Association

My sincere thanks to the Officers and Committee for inviting me to judge the Toy and Terrier Groups and the huge honour of judging BIS, BPIS and BVIS as well. It was a wonderful day, the weather despite threatening stayed kind throughout. A real country show with well laid out rings. The quality of dogs in my final line ups was outstanding and I was splitting hairs between them.

Best In Show.

What a treat awaited me. I should like to thank my fellow judges for sending me through such quality dogs for what is probably the strongest line up for top honours that I have been afforded at this level. It was a privilege and I felt very humbled. Every Group winner was very worthy and I was splitting hairs. So from the line up of 7 which comprised of the Airedale and CKCS, German Spitz Klein, Siberian Husky, Basset, Bearded Collie and Bracco Italiano. It was a very close call but the on the final run off the BIS was awarded to the Bracco - Goode’s Owlspoint King Of Trouble at Brackenvale JW ShCM. So very true to type - well balanced all through with correct outline - he has a typical head and very noble expression. So sound all through and well muscled and then he moves - the big ring gave him the opportunity to move out with that wonderfully elasticated stride that can only be really appreciated when viewed in side profile. He was pushed all the way but thoroughly deserved top spot. RBIS the lovely Bearded Collie - May’s Sengalas Indiana True - Beautifully balanced all through. Typical head with dark eye. Good layback of shoulder. Level topline. Strong hindquarters. Super coat - harsh with good density throughout. Excellent ground covering movement.

Best Puppy In Show

Another quality line up awaited me. It was a close call and I am sure that all of the Puppy Group Winners will have a bright future to look forward to.

My winner was the Samoyed - Woodhead’s Nikara Secret Wish With Paskha. Very striking puppy who is well balanced all through, Wedge shaped head with well arched neck. Deep in chest with well made body. Powerful hindquarters. Moved out well with good drive

RBPIS - the Clumber Spaniel - Walking’s Maursett Mycate At Kiswahili. At 11 months old she is well balanced all through. Head of good proportions and not overdone in any way. Strong neck leading to well laid back shoulder. Level topline. Well sprung ribcage. Powerful hindquarters with good width of second thigh. She is so true to type and her best is yet to come as is to be expected in a bitch of this age but her construction and movement earned her RBPIS.

Best Veteran In Show

If I am ever asked what I love judging the most it is the veterans. Some I have judged many times through their careers and some I have been given the privilege of judging before their retirement. But for me they are the true stars - those that have done it all and have the T-Shirt! And they all still enjoy coming out and showing us how good they are. My Veteran line up was a total treat and a great end to a super day. Everyone of them deserved top spot and they were a delight to judge. BVIS was the Bearded Collie - May’s Sengalas Indiana Rose. I learned afterwards that she is the dam of my RBIS. Many of the same remarks apply - excellent overall balance with true head and expression. Easy ecumenical stride on the move. Level topline maintained on the stack and in motion with a harsh coat of good density. RBVIS - the lovely Chinese Crested Ch Doonbeg Bete Noir Via Tstewood JW ShCm. If there had been a 3rd spot then it would be the Flatcoated Retriever - Sh Ch Steelriver Blazin Hot to Blacktoft who I have a very soft spot for having given him his first CC many years ago and he has recently won his 8th. He looked better than ever.

Thank you once again for a fantastic day and especially to my stewards for their hard work in ensuring my ring ran so efficiently
