My thanks to the Committee for their kind invitation to judge the AVNSC Gundog breeds and the Gundog Group at this friendly show. I was very impressed by the quality in depth of exhibits that were brought forward today and many worthy dogs had to go cardless. Thank you to everybody who entered and my grateful thanks to my very hard working and efficient steward.

AVNSC - Gundog

Puppy (9, 2)

1st Jones’ Gwenadriff Gooseberry Fool. Irish Setter. Excellent overall balance. Good head shape with soft expression and well chiselled beneath the eyes. Long clean neck leading to well laid shoulder. Deep chest. Correct topline. Well ribbed back. Good hindquarters with hocks set square to the ground. Excellent coat and condition. Good bone and feet. Moved well out and back and in profile. BP & PG3

2nd Slater’s Eksimals Life After Jack, GSP. 12 months. Excellent balance. Good head and expression. Clean neck leading to laid shoulder. Good width of chest. Correctly sprung ribcage. Maintained topline both stacked and moving. Good bone with neat feet.

3rd Ovel’s Jimaura I’m For Caroline. Pointer

Junior (11, 3)

1st Revill & Taylor - Julita Rhubette JW. WSS. 15 month. Excellent overall balance. Super head with soft pleading expression. Well chiselled beneath the eyes. Correct layback of shoulder and corresponding return of upper arm. Good depth of chest and well ribbed back. Correct topline. Well made hindquarters with good width of second thigh. Excellent bone and feet. Moved really well.

2nd Grimsdell - Tattersett Dark Honey English Setter. Another straight out of the top drawer. Beautiful 15 month bitch. Good outline. Feminine head with soft expression and well defined eyebrows. Long slightly arched neck leading to good layback of shoulder and return of upper arm. Deep chest. Well ribbed back. Correct topline and tailset. Good driving movement. Very close to winner.

3rd Newson - Tivalake Let’s Misbehave JW. NSDTR

Post Graduate (9, 4)

1st Parsons & Gisby - Sutersett Tom Collins At Bransett. Irish Setter. Excellent overall balance. Classic head with soft expression and good chiselling beneath the eyes. Clean neck. Well laid shoulder. Deep chest. Well ribbed back. Correct topline. Well set tail used well on move. Strong hindquarters with good width of second thigh. Moved well. In excellent coat and condition. Good bone and feet.

2nd Charles - Stagarth A Kind Of Magic. Welsh springer. Well balanced. Good head with soft expression. Well laid shoulder with corresponding return of upper arm. Chest of good depth and width. Well ribbed back. Correct topline. Would like a little more animation on the move.

3rd Nunn - Tawnymead Tinkerbell Over Setcianna. English Setter

Open (14, 3)

This was one of the strongest Open AVNSC classes I have ever judged. There was quality down the line and beyond. A great pleasure to judge and very little between the placed dogs.  

1st Norbury & Adams - Medogold Bamalam At Heartbury JW. Pointer. I judged her a few months ago and was impressed then. Excellent outline which flows seamlessly from nose to tail. Super head, well chiselled beneath the eyes and slightly concave muzzle giving correct dish-faced appearance . Well laid shoulder and equal length of upper arm. Deep chest. Well ribbed back. Correct topline and and strong, well made hindquarters. On the move I could watch her all day - she flows round the ring with a true daisy cutting action - totally effortless and with good tail action. BOB, Group 1 and delighted to learn that she then went on to be awarded Best In Show.

2nd Loakes - Goldbirch Wings Of Desire JW ShCM.English Setter. Another bitch that I have done well in the past and she pressed the winner to the wire. Good overall balance. Excellent head with soft expression and well defined eyebrows. Clean neck leading to well laid back shoulder. Deep chest. Well ribbed back. Correct hindquarters. Not quite holding topline as well as winner on the but very close call. In excellent coat and condition. RBOB

3rd Streven’s Sh Ch Erikachen Conaire At Tollisty JW ShCM. Completed a trio of top class dogs.

1st Brown - Brakabreeze Endeavour. Slovakian Rough Haired Pointer. 7 month. Excellent overral balance. Clean head with moderate stop. Strong lean neck. Excellent lay of shoulder and return of upper arm. Well ribbed back. Well made hindquarters. Just needs to strengthen in rear movement. Excellent bone and feet. In good coat and condition. BOB and BP

3rd Weyman - Spuffing Tanquery. English Springer Spaniel

1st Julita Rhubette JW. Welsh Springer Spaniel. 1st AVSNC Junior. Res Best AV

2nd Smith - Tivalake Anything Goes At Tollisty. NSDTRr. 14 months. Good outline. Wedge shaped head with good ear set. Correct forehand assembly. Well ribbed back leading to short loin and well shaped hindquarters. Moved freely and with drive. Not in best coat today.

3rd Beecham’s Baileydale Abracadabra - Labrador

1st Clarke - Ivelwell Imperial Fizz From Ousevale. Golden Retriever. Excellent outline with nothing exaggerated. Well balanced all through. Feminine head with soft expression. Well chiselled beneath the eye. Excels in forehand construction. Deep chest. Well ribbed back. Short loin. Well made hindquarters. In good coat and condition. Moved well. Best Any Variety

1st Evans- Lestorm Princess Aurora. Golden Retriever. Well balanced. Pleasing head with soft expression. Little loaded over the shoulder. Deep brisket and well ribbed back. Well made hindquarters. Would like more animation on the move.

1st Coe & Pitman’s Int Sh Ch Pitwit Leeona. GSP. 7 years old. Excellent overall balance. Clean head with moderate stop and soft expression. Strong neck leading to correct lay of shoulder. Deep chest. Well ribbed back. Strong hindquarters. Excellent bone and feet. Moved well with drive.

2nd Wallis & Levene - Torbeck Penrhyn Bay. ESS. 7 years well balanced. Typical head with good chiselling. Strong muzzle and correct ear set. Well laid shoulder. Deep chest. Well sprung ribcage. Strong hindquarters. Excellent bone and feet. Moved well

2 Golden Retriever - Seamons - Stvincent Moonlighting At Messano JW. Pushed the winner very hard. Well balanced all through. Correct head with soft expression and good chiselling beneath the eyes. Scores in forehand construction. Well ribbed back with short loin. Strong hindquarters. Excellent bone and feet. Moved well.

3 Cocker Spaniel - Hutson’s Stobytill Hippy Hippy Shake JW. Excellent balance with good square outline. Well chiselled head. Deep chest and big ribcage. Well made hindquarters and good tail action on the move.

4 Spanish Water Dog - Walker’s Valentisimo’s Tizi. Excellent balance. Correct head proportions. Strong in body. Well made hindquarters. In excellent coat and condition. Moved with drive.

Gundog Puppy Group

1 Golden Retriever - O’Gorman’s - Thornywait Top Notch At Dreamland. Well balanced all through. Excellent head with melting expression. Good forehand assembly. Well ribbed back. Strongly made hindquarters. Excellent bone and feet. Moved soundly on a good stride.

2 Labrador Retriever - Metcalfe’s Princess Leia At Baileydale (Imp Ita) Well balanced all through. Good head shape with clean cheeks and strong jaw. Well laid shoulder with corresponding return of upper arm. Well sprung ribcage. Strong hindquarters with good otter tail. Moved accurately fore and aft and on a good stride when viewed in profile.

3 Irish Setter - Gwendariff Gooseberry Fool

4 Flatcoated Retriever - Bright’s Hopevalley Morning Twister. Well balanced all through and of correct size. Good head shape with dark eye and clean cheeks. Good layback of shoulder. Could have a little more width of chest but this should improve with age. Well ribbed back to short loin. Slopes a fraction in croup. Good bone and feet. Moved well at one with his handler.
