Derbyshire Agricultural & Horticultural Society

A lovely venue blessed by glorious weather on the day. Thanks to the committee for the invitation to judge and my very efficient and entertaining steward and most of all to the exhibitors who brought some top quality exhibits for me to assess. The constant roars from the big screen area keeping me informed of England’s successful world cup match were the icing on the cake.

Havanese                                                                                                                                                                                                               Junior (5; 1a)                                                                                                                                                                                                                 1. Moore’s Dianaia’s Perfect Day: 14 month old boy with well balanced head of equal proportions, broad and slightly rounded. Very dark, large almond eyes giving a gentle but cheeky expression. Moderate neck into well laid shoulders. Correct withers to elbow to ground ratio. Slightly longer than tall. Moved with a spring in his step as he drove round the ring on parallel legs with his high set tail carried over his back. All this covered by a profuse quality coat. Set a very high early benchmark. BOB & G3                                          2. Walker’s Newtonwood Fields of Gold: Another with good head properties, equal from nose to stop to occiput. Dark large eyes. Well coated and tail carried high over his back. Not quite the overall balance of 1st.                                                                                     3. Grocock’s Havanamours Moonbeam over Havalag                                                                                                                                      Post Grad (1)                                                                                                                                                                                                                1. Grocock’s Havanamours Bonita Te Quiero Havalag: 11 months old, small dog with correct head and dark almond eyes, unfortunately squinting which made it difficult to assess their size. Good pigment. A sturdy little body with well laid shoulders but I would prefer a little more leg. Moved round with lots of drive.                                                                                                                           Open (2)                                                                                                                                                                                                                         1. Walker’s Jolina Jolie Star of Havanna(Imp Ger): Broad rounded head with large almond eyes giving appealing expression. Well balanced in body and profusely coated, wouldn't lift his tail today and lacked the spring in movement of the junior. RBOB

Miniature Pinscher                                                                                                                                                                                                 Junior (2) 1. Parker’s Vardenais Lumos: 17 month old dog that is a real live wire. Very dark oval eyes in an elongated head with erect high set ears. Moderate arched neck into well laid shoulders through to straight sloping topline and well turned stifles made for a pleasing profile picture. His movement was true and parallel coming and going and a positive hackneyed step set him apart today. BOB                                                                                                                                                                                                                    2. Twigg’s Bamtybo Dark Lord: Finer than 1st all round but a similar excellent shape. Good for shoulders, turn of stifle and with an elegant neck. Also with a hackneyed action but not as true as 1st coming and going.                                                                               Post Grad (1)                                                                                                                                                                                                                1. Goff’s Dobenar Itz a Gift for Hufflepin: Barely out of puppy and needs to mature. Long narrow head which is nicely balanced. Wedge shaped body with deep ribs and good tuck up. Well balanced throughout. Moved soundly in all directions                          Open (2)                                                                                                                                                                                                                         1. Griffiths’ Keljantzi Xciting Prospect for Amious: Girl that has personality plus. Ideal elongated, narrow head with erect ears and muzzle in balance. Arched neck into sloping shoulders, straight topline and good angulation front and back shone through in true all round movement but couldn't match the juniors hackneyed action.                                                                                                                  2. Goff’s Jessy Jay: Smaller girl with nicely balanced head and well shaped eyes. Stocky, short coupled body. Good action but pinned in front and rear movement.

Pugs                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Puppy (2) 1. Farnworth’s Briddish Massachusetts: 10 month old girl with a round head of good size, short blunt muzzle, well held button ears and large dark lustrous eyes with a little devilment in them coupled with her wrinkles produced a very good head study. Short and cobby throughout, stout neck, level topline and carrying her tail high and curled. Well muscled all over with good angles contributed to sound driving movement with typical roll and proud head carriage, should have a successful career. BPiB & Puppy Group 1                                                                                                                                                                                                                          2. Dawson’s Judamie Carryon Looking: A year on the day, another with a correct head with good ears and expression. Short cobby body with good angulation. Wouldn't lift her tail today.                                                                                                                                       Junior (5)                                                                                                                                                                                                                       1. Hitchcock’s Bobitch Cheer Up Sleepy Jean:Well sized round head with good wrinkles and ear carriage. Lively eyes that did not leave the treat! Square, compact overall body shape. Moved straight coming and going with a roll to her gait.                                       2. Dawson-Payne’s Eastonite Randy Andy: Full round head with ample but not exaggerated wrinkles. Short square muzzle and large dark round eyes with a sparkle in them. A solid neck led to a stocky compact body with well sprung ribs and a broad chest. Legs were placed under body and tail carried high and curled over back. Good angulation coupled with his construction produced proud movement with reach, drive and characteristic roll. Hitchcock’s Bobitch Cheer Up Sleepy Jean:1st in Junior                                                                                                                                 3. Whitman & Tarabad’s Khatibi Bark Obama JW (CKCS) This boy commanded the ring today. His black coat gleamed in the days sunshine as did his rich tan markings. Slight crest to his neck, good angles to shoulders and rear quarters, well sprung ribs and overall balance made a pleasing picture on the stand.
