Breed: Hound Group

Hound Group.  I thought this a very strong group, I could easily have made a larger cut, all the exhibits were in good condition although some did lack a a little in muscular tone. My short-list of eight were the Afghan Hound, Basset Griffon Vendeen (Petit), Dachshund (MLH), Irish Wolfhound, Pharaoh Hound, Rhodesian Ridgeback and the Saluki. A final run-off and my winners were determined as Group 1 the BGVP, Robertson & Doherty Ch Soletrader Magic Mike, beautifully balanced without a hint of exaggeration, his expressive head is quite classic and proudly carried on a clean neck, I considered him totally harmonious and this is exemplified on the move when he holds himself so well and carries his tail typically, shown in tip top condition, as one would expect from this kennel, his coat isn’t overdone and is of correct texture, a joy to behold. Group 2 the Irish Wolfhound, Pinkney Ch Hydebeck Imperial Ruler, masculine chap, all male with a soft expression yet demanding and put down to the minute, he has a great frame which is supported on strong bone, he carries just the right amount of substance for his size, a sound laid back mover with good deportment, coat of desired texture. Group 3 the Afghan Hound, Douglas & Tan Supreme Ch Alaqadar Rigoletto, striking lad, glamorous and totally functional, beautiful clean head carried on reachy neck, he presented an impressive outline and was totally honest to go over, he flowed effortlessly around the ring with his pristine coat enhancing what for me was the perfect picture. Group 4 the Long Haired Dachshund Mitchell Ch Bronia Lothario, another I have appreciated before, superb breed representative, well carried conical head with correct attributes, correct in construction and not excessively long, moved soundly with a dignified air.
