Windsor Championship Show – 30 June 2018

Border Collies

The weather was very hot so I had to adjust the amount of movement I usually ask for, accordingly. The heat affected movement in a lot of cases and a couple dogs weren’t comfortable being gone over but temperaments, overall, were excellent. I was very pleased with the overall quality of the entry and some classes were a headache to judge as there were some lovely exhibits who had to go cardless. My thanks to my two lovely stewards, John & Raye Parry, who kept the ring running smoothly so that I could concentrate on my judging.

Veteran Dog (7,1)

1. Grant’s Sh Ch Janbell Valentino Avec Coussierre JW

Well presented 8 year old b/w. He has a masculine head with dark eyes and semi erect ears. A moderate length of neck, good depth of chest and lay back of shoulders. Balanced fore and aft, with a level topline and sloping croup, he produced very typical, flowing movement around the ring.

2. Berry’s Sianworth Blue Moon.

Athletic looking 9 year old bl/w who stood well on correct shaped feet. His eyes are a perfect shade of brown for his coat colour. A very good length neck and adequate chest room. Another with a level topline and sloping hindquarters. He moved very well but with a higher head position than first.

3 Hales’ Sh Ch Laceway Lone Ranger JW

1. Lucas’ Aculsia Perfect Duet

2. Greaves’ Moshanta Midnight Hour

Another 8 months old b/w who is not as mature looking as first. He has pleasing head properties, a moderate length of neck and good shoulder placement. Not as settled as first, he moved OK with a level topline.

3. Castle’s Tazaeos You Can’t Hurry Love

Puppy Dog (4,1w)

1. Shahmatova’s Nashdom Putting On The Style

This 10 month old b/w was presented really well and handled sympathetically. He has a pleasing head with semi erect ears and dark eye, a moderate length of neck, a level topline and a good turn of stifle. Movement was smooth coming towards and around but going away he was not as positive.

Junior Dog (6,0)

1. Ratcliffe’s Arrodare Hear It For The Boy

Athletic looking 12 month old b/w with a masculine head, semi erect ears and dark eyes giving a pleasing expression. He has a decent length of neck, depth of chest and turn of stifle. 2. Thomson’s Goytre Summer Nights

12 month old b/w. He has pleasing head properties with semi erect ears and oval shaped dark eye. Balanced fore and aft, he held a level topline on the move. Presented in good coat condition. Produced good movement in all directions but didn’t quite have the reach of first.

22 month old b/w. He has a strong head but it’s not overdone. A moderate length of neck leads on to a level topline, broad hindquarters and a well carried tail of good length. He is longer in body than first and also moved well but I preferred side gait of first.
