South Western Poodle Club

Breed: Best In Show

South Western Poodle Club Championship Show – 4th November 2018

My thanks to the officers and committee for the invitation to judge Best in Show. It’s always an honour to be invited to officiate at a breed club event, however, for this appointment I had mixed feelings as it is to be the last show held by this Club. South Western Poodle Club has many good memories as when Jan & I were showing poodles we always looked forward to attending both the Open and Championship shows, so well supported and friendly.

Today the breed judges certainly presented me with outstanding exhibits which really made my decisions difficult as both the Miniature and Standard were super examples of the breed. B.I.S.(Miniature) Harwood’s Ch. Minarets Best Kept Secret. One that I have admired from the ringside and getting hands-on he didn’t disappoint. He presents a super outline when stacked and he maintains elegance with proud head carriage on the move. Lovely masculine head of good length, nicely chiselled foreface, darkest of sparkling almond eyes. Good leathers. Good length of neck, well ribbed short body. Well muscled, nicely angulated quarters. Excellently presented jacket of good texture. Scores on the move, so true coming and going and with good drive. He has ring presence in spades and is the ultimate showman. RBIS (Standard) Campbell’s US Ch Dawin Ravi’n Heart. Really pushed the Miniature all the way. Gorgeous head piece, lovely almond eyes, good bite, super chin. Good leathers. Straight front and good feet. Deep chest, well angulated rear. Well presented coat of crisp texture. Proud head carriage in profile, just preferred the Miniature’s more precise movement. BPIS (Miniature) Beck’s Maldavale Black Angel just 8 months and really coming together. Nice shape and size. Lovely feminine head, good eye shape and bite. Good front, pleasing length of neck, nicely ribbed and moderately angulated quarters. Well presented coat. Scored in sound light movement. Will watch her progress with interest. RBPIS (Toy) Baker,Gadsby,Isherwood & Lynn’s Afterglow Bubblegum. Just 6 months old with lovely temperament. Pleasing balance. Feminine head, sparkling eyes, good bite. Adequate neck. Needs more body and would prefer a little more angulation. Smart straight movement. BVIS (Standard) Butcher’s Hendor Extreme Dream, 7 year old white. Good length of head, nicely filled under the eyes. Good legs and feet. Nice length of neck, well ribbed body. Moved quite soundly. Good coat texture, nicely presented.
