Welsh Kennel Club

Breed: Maltese

My sincere thanks to the committee the invitation to award CC’s for the first time at this beautiful championship show, for the assistance from my stewards, Lawrence and David and to all of the exhibitors, although few, for their support. This is one of the most stunning and spectacular breeds to look at and the effort of all exhibitors should be commended. I am aware of what was being said ringside and am eternally grateful to those who trusted me to do a good job. All exhibits had good mouths and black pads and desired haloes of varying strengths, and all exhibitors were gracious and supportive.

MALTESE JUNIOR DOG, 1,0

1ST Blythin’s Superman Kazkovyy Lev Julesville (IMP), 15 months chap with balanced head, deep stop and great pigment, dark oval eyes. Pleasant sized exhibit covered in a coat of reasonable silky texture, he moved well but a little close behind and lost top line in profile, although the ground was a little challenging for a coated breed.

MALTESE LIMIT DOG, 2,1

1ST PEARSONS Vontese Chimaera George, this chap is now 3 years old, carries a strong head with most excellent pigment, immaculate mouth, low set ears and good eyes. Decent length of neck which flows into a straight front, well ribbed body, nice high tail set and carriage and moved away with a positive rear action. His coat is silky and perhaps just needed a tidy which would enhance the overall picture.

MALTESE OPEN DOG, 5,1

A quality class with 4 very different males, some who were not really prepared to play the game today.

1ST Welbourn’s Ch Zumarnik Stars N Stripes, this is an absolutely outstanding 6 year old male who in any company is always going to be a challenge to beat. He is a compact stallion of a male who’s coat texture alone is an example of what the standard calls for; pure silk, straight and white with slight permissible lemon marking. Broad balanced head, immaculate bite and teeth, inky black pigment and haloes and a look that defies you to not pick him. He has a reachy, well muscled neck that he uses to his advantage, his top line never falters from level, and his rear angulations allow him to power around this ring. He is an outstanding male who despite a show career shorter than many has amassed many great wins, and it was a pleasure to be allowed to judge him, award him my first CC, and then see him take the Eukanuba champion stakes finals too. CC & BOB.

2ND White & Jackson’s Ir  & Int CH Benatone Rings of Gold CW14, another 6 year old who I have competed against many times and never thought I would have the opportunity to judge hands on. Larger than my winner but in no way over sized or coarse. Another with a balanced head, broad muzzle, deep stop and excellent dentition. He is very well made under a profuse silky coat which was well presented. Great spring of rib and muscle tone. He had no issues driving round the ring, carried his head and tail high. He kept his composure at all times and thoroughly deserved his RCC.

3RD Welbourn and Cayton’s Zumarnik Blurred Lines. I love the head on this boy, the most appealing expression, inky black pigment, deep stop, broad muzzle, excellent for size and covered in an outstanding texture coat. He however would have loved to show inside and not on the ever so interesting longer grass and showed his cheeky personality to me today.

MALTESE VETERAN BITCH, 0,0

MALTESE MINOR PUPPY BITCH, 2,0

1ST Cayton & Welbourn’s Bubbleup Bittersweet for Zumarnik, what a little 7 month of sweetheart, prettiest of dark eyes, good mouth, broad enough in head just like a little bit more stop, but then she has time to develop. Cobby little body covered in a well presented silky coat, very nice tail set and carriage moved the better of two very excitable puppies today. Nice angulations front and rear. BPIB

2ND Gillies Delcost Designer Girl, a raw 6 months of lovely size. Such a pretty well balanced head, excellent pigment and mouth, reachy neck into level top line and high arched tail. For the few strides she settled into in profile she looked a dream and I would really like to see her in 18 months in full attire.

MALTESE PUPPY BITCH, 1,0

1ST Gillies Delcost Designer Girl, AS ABOVE.

MALTESE JUNIOR BITCH 1,0

1ST White’s Sosueme Celtic Charm, 13 months bitch, wow is she cobby in body. Stacked she has a lovely shape with strong neck into short back and a high tail. Very deep stop and broad head, nice dark eyes, perhaps a little shorter in muzzle for me but does not detract from overall expression, excellent mouth. She has a fantastic coat at this age which was well presented and although excitable gave a good account on the move with accuracy fore and aft and a level top line in profile. Pleased to award her the Res CC.

MALTESE POST GRADUATE, 0, 0

MALTESE LIMIT BITCH, 0,0

MALTESE OPEN BITCH, 3,2

1ST Gillies Am Ch Delcost Thrill of Victory (re IMP) 2 year old petite, ultra feminine bitch who was immaculate. Her head is of absolute balance, perfect bite, deep stop, good length to foreface but with desired breadth to muzzle. Strong neck which flowed into well laid shoulders, and whilst being a smaller lady, still has the desired spring of rib and shortness of loin the standard asks for. She has to have your hands on to appreciate what is there. Great angulations and never really loses the classic Maltese outline standing or moving. Very well presented by her handler and pleased I could award her her first CC having only just arrived back in the country from what I was told an extremely successful trip to USA.

I could not have asked for a better matched pair to compare in the challenge. Thank you.
