Bath Championship Show 

Dalmatians     Monday 28th May 2018 

Thank you for a lovely entry.  I very much enjoyed my appointment. We were lucky with the weather, escaping the thunder claps and torrential rain storm of the previous day. As usual for Bath these days the ring was sizeable and bowling green smooth even though it was the third day of judging.    

There are a few observations I would like to make.  Training your dog to have its teeth examined is important if it is to be a show dog.  It is becoming more and more common to find this a struggle even in the adult classes. Also use of titbits is getting rather out of hand.  It is the expectation of a treat that tempts your dog to offer a behaviour i.e. to stand, not a continual stream of food going in to the dogs mouth, including when the judge is trying to go over your dog.  I found that many coats were extremely dirty which is surprising as it is, after all, a beauty contest.  Moving your dog on a loose lead and training your dog to move alongside you is so important.  It spoils movement so much when the dog is either strung up and moved far too fast or when the dog is continually being yanked to the side to bring it back to the heel position and the animals legs fly all over the place as it tries to re-balance itself.  Hard to observe any correct movement in either case. My dog and bitch CC winners were both handled with skill.  An example to all.  

MPD(2) 1. Holland’s Capearlla Its on Ice. Excellent young male of only 8 months. Beautiful outline. Powerful steady movement. Cat feet, good round bone.  Level topline with long neck, smooth withers and perfect tail set. Brisket just needs to drop a little. Will have a promising future. RCC. BP 2. Finlay’s Dalfin Actual Fact. Another 8 months baby but not as mature as 1. Head still developing and flying his ears a little today. Good clear spotting and happy temperament. Tail slightly high on the move. Looser in movement than 1 but plenty of time on his side. 

PD(2)1. Finlay’s Dalfin Actual Fact. 2.O’Connor’s Dalamanti Diamond Raider. 10 months and a little wary today in the ring. Lacked the freedom of movement of 1 and rather unenthusiastic going round the ring. Good feet and nails. Strong round bone. Dark pigmentation. 

JD(6) 1.Thorne’s Spotiray Billy Elliot of Castletop. Dark pigmentation. Clear spotting on a crisp white background. Masculine head and using ears well. Level topline. Straight front. Moved steadily and well. 2. Millington’s Capearlla Pure Diamonds. Happy temperament and another one with excellent coat and clear spotting. Correct head proportions and ear carriage. Cat feet. Looser on front movement than 1. 3. Christie’s Laguna Dios Free Falcon by Sophtspot 

ND (1) 1. Millington’s Capearlla Pure Diamonds 

PGD (1) 1. Hernandez’ Dalminshi Starlite Express JW. Stood alone but a worthy class winner. Real male but not coarse in any way. Clear spotting. Level topline – no wrinkling over the withers here. Good depth of brisket. Excellent feet and nails. Moved steadily working with handler. Could perhaps give more drive in his hind movement. 

LD (10,1a) 1. Gibbs’ Phadante Mr Blue Sky JW. Clean pure white coat with clear spotting. Well-muscled hind quarters providing plenty of drive with good second thigh leading to free driving movement. Tight feet. Correct depth of chest. 2. Croft and Cobbs’ Kalokairie’s Bullet Proof. Young stallion dog.  Lovely clear liver spotting. Correct angulation front and hind. Smooth level topline. Powerful mover. Kind expression. 3. Alexander’s Offordale Picasso 

OD (4) 1. Neath-Duggan and Baker’s Ch Buffrey Incognito by Dalleaf JW CC. Excellent overall outline so balanced both standing and on the move. Long neck, smooth over the withers and level topline with correct tailset and carriage. Good depth of brisket. Tight feet with correct pasterns. Lovely free driving movement. 2. McCarthy’s Fr Ch Domdallino Je Suis Kilndandy JW. Correct liver pigmentation. Kind gentle expression. Again, excellent neck, withers, topline and tailset. Good round bone.  Correct pasterns. Moved steadily and well with handler but lacked the drive of 1. 3. Christie’s Ch Sophtspot Gold Dust JW 

VD (0) 

SBD/B (5,1a) 1. Pace’s Big Addo BSB. D. 6 yrs. Very happy boy who tries so hard for his mistress. Lightly spotted but correct liver pigmentation. Good masculine head with correct use of ears. Some wrinkling over the withers. Steady mover. A lot to like but outline spoilt by tail carriage.2. Howard’s Shydally Brightest Star. B. 9 months. Having a great day out and enjoying it. Correct liver pigmentation. Spotty ears which she used well. Long elegant neck. Good topline. Rather narrow at front. Would like more body. As her training progresses she will improve her performance in the ring. 3. Howard-Riddles’ Shydally Wish Upon a Star 

MPB (1) 1.Morgan’s Malbreow Wish Upon a Star. 8 months baby. Very calm. Excellent coat. Pretty head with ears used well to frame expression. Round bone. Long neck and level topline. Steady rhythmic movement. 

PB (3) 1. Wright’s Millbelle Fernie. Fantastic young bitch of 11 months. Even liver spotting and correct pigmentation. Correct outline. Level topline with smooth withers. Correct lay of shoulder. Round bone. Well-muscled but still feminine. Moved steadily and with drive. 2. Howard’s Shydally Brightest Star 3. Howard-Riddles’ Shydally Wish Upon a Star 

JB (5) 1. Hajee and Tidcombe’s Castletop Summer Breeze. A bitch of substance with good strong bone but still feminine, especially in head and expression. Excellent pigmentation with clear spotting. Sound mover with driving action. 2. Hobbs and Whiting’s Rapanooey Rascallion. Smaller liver spots with correct pigmentation. Lovely ear carriage framing the face. Straight front with cat feet and correct pasterns. Well-muscled hind quarters, driving well round the ring. 3. Howard’s Shydally Brightest Star 

NB (2, 1a) 1. McCarthy’s Tolkain Gold Star for Kilndandy. Lively temperament. Spotty ears used well framing a feminine head. Level topline. Correct angulation front and hind. Free flowing mover driving well. 

PGB (13,2a) 1. Harrison-Stratford’s Dalminshi Dark Dakota at Dalkereve JW. Clear coat in excellent condition. Dark pigmentation, using ears well. Straight front, well-muscled hind quarters. Really drove around the ring and out-moved the rest of the class. 2. Gardner’s Dvorjica Chilli Chutney for Wrendragge JW. Lovely feminine bitch. Head of correct proportions. Long elegant neck. Shapely underline. Tight cat feet.  Lacked enthusiasm on the move today. 3. Sampson’s Dalstorm Eternal Promise JW 

LB (11,2a) 1. Croft’s Kalokairie’s Barberella from Koroyza CC. This bitch oozes quality and femininity. Of correct proportions all over. Good round bone. Well-muscled and in fit condition. Excellent tight feet. Really good liver colour and pigmentation. Steady driving movement, working well with her handler to present an excellent picture. 2. Davies’ Maddidalli Embers Glow. Another quality exhibit. Elegant. Clear black spotting on a clean white coat. Long neck, level topline and shapely underline. Well-muscled in fit condition. Free flowing movement.  3. Neath-Duggan and Baker’s Buffrey Hanky Panky by Dalleaf JW 

OB (8,3a) 1. Finlay’s Ch Dvorjica Black Swan at Dalfin Sh CM RCC. Very pretty head and ears. In very fit condition but elegant and not over-muscled. Straight front, good turn of stifle, level topline and long arched neck. Moved freely and with drive. 2. Christie’s Ch Sophtspot Glitterati JW. One I like very much and have placed before. Lost out to 1 on quality of coat. Superb neck, head and tail carriage. Correct angulations front and hind leading to sound driving movement. 3. David and Saunders’ Ch Dalticino Interlagos from Dallydyl JW Sh CM 

VB (3) 1. Wright’s Boutnneux Artemis of Millbelle JW Sh CM BV. 8 yrs. In really fit condition, well-muscled and moving with drive. Lovely temperament, kind expression, using ears well. Some wrinkling over withers but presenting an elegant, balanced picture. 2. Gibbs’ Ch Phadante Dixie Lily JW. 8 yrs. Dark pigmentation and clear spotting. Lovely overall outline with long neck and leve topline. Tail down today so not entirely happy but still moved out well, just couldn’t match the drive of 1. 3. Thorner’s Ch Tolutim Drambuie Sh CM
