Breed: West Highland White Terrier

Southern West Highland White Terrier Club Ch Show 28th July 2018

I was sorry to hear that Marie Purchon was unwell and unable to carry out her judging appointment at this show; I wish her a speedy recovery. I would like to thank the Committee for inviting me to take her place. There was a good atmosphere at the show and it was great to be able to judge the dogs outside. I felt front angulation has improved but we still need to be careful with mouths. All dogs bar one had scissor bites but in many cases the top teeth were just over the bottom ones and no more. I worry if we are not careful we will end up with level mouths. Movement on the whole was good as were coats. Quality was good and in many classes I really had to split hairs to decide on my placings. Limit and Open Classes were particularly strong; I needed more cards as good dogs went down the line.

PD(3,1) 1. Burns’ Burneze Wild at Heart, masculine puppy, good head, correct reach of neck into level topline, short coupled, good hindquarters, harsh white coat, moved and showed well, I am sure he will have a bright future. - BPIS

2. Berry’s Ashgate Star Gazer, another promising puppy, lower on leg than 1, good breadth of skull, not as much stop as 1, excellent scissor bite, compact body, strong hindquarters, moved well.

JD(3) 1. Corri’s Inverglen Master Mariner, promising young dog, good head as have all from this kennel, good front assembly, correct reach of neck, level topline, short coupled, good backend, moves well.

2.Newcomb’s Comdale For Your Eyes Only at Newrane, broad skull, not quite the stop of 1, very good mouth. Wider in front than 1, but losing a bit of weight would help that. Good hindquarters which move him well round the ring.

ND (1) 1. Cooper’s Brorastar Urban Spaceman, Compact dog, full of beans, good head, well laid shoulders running into level topline, good hind angulation, moved well.

PGD (6.2a) 1. Thomson’s Ashgate Ayton, strongly built dog, good head neck and shoulder, straight front, level topline, good hind angulation, moved well once he settled.
