I was very pleased to be invited to judge my breed for the first time since I judged them at Crufts in

2013. I found an overall great improvement in heads with much fewer plain heads or heavy back skulls. Front movement however, in many cases, has reverted to how it was when I first started showing the breed in the early 1980’s with many having very wide front movement with elbows sticking out on the move; this was also often accompanied by close rear movement. This is something for breeders to monitor carefully as fronts were greatly improved in recent years and this needs to be corrected again, in this, a breed which was designed to be able to do a full day’s work in the field.
