WELKS. Dachshund Min Smooth

I was delighted with the super entry of 100 dogs. It was pleasing to see so many new and young exhibitors in this variety, and I v much hope that the old hands and clubs are making them welcome. Enjoy your showing and don’t worry if your first one isn’t a start – we all started somewhere and my first Dachshund barely won a prize card. I am concerned about size in this variety. None were too thin, I thought 1 could look better with more weight and some better with less weight. What surprised me is how many were significantly heavier than the desired maximum weigh. A few ounces didn’t bother me in the slightest, but please take account of size when thinking of the next generation. I found a few with too little ground clearance, and some too tall and short in back so they looked square. Generally there was no common fault running through the breed, so hopefully finding a dog to compliment your bitch will be straight forward. I thought the bitch line up was very strong.

Veteran D (2) 2 grand dogs to start. 1. CH KATHINGTON COEUR DE LION (MRS K A HERRINGTON) Holds a super outline on the move. Preferred his head, having slightly more muzzle. V good eyes. Lengthy neck. Would prefer a little more ground clearance. Well laid shoulder with a good return of upper arm. Well ribbed back. Holds s level topline. V good hind action. 2. CH BARRATINI JEEVES AT LOKMADI JW (MRS Y KENT) V well proportioned d, better ground clearance than 1. Head is ok. Lengthy neck. Could have a slightly wider chest. Well ribbed back. Good shoulder.
