Bournemouth Hound Group

I was asked to judge the group in place of Jenny Startup, and hope that she is well. It was a very good group and I could have brought a few more in, especially from the Dachshund family and I especially liked the final 8. Making the cut were the Basenji, i gave this lovely b the CC at Crufts on her UK debut. I like her outline and proportions, real leggy elegance. She has a super head. Firm topline, well set tail and goes with a swinging stride. Beagle, another i have done well before. She is v feminine and clean in skull. Well laid shoulders. Good spring or rib. V good rear, which she uses so well. I thought she carried a little too much weight one the day. The Long Dachs. Excellent for size and type. She has a well balanced outline. Super forechest, plenty of ground clearance, hard topline and a v good rear and in super muscle. The Whippet is a lovely type and so really well handled. Fem at through. Curvy outline, she is v accurate on the move. My group winner was the Petit Basset, Ch Soletrader Magic Mike. He really was on top form today. He has the most lovely head. Correct beck. Strands on good legs and feet. Well ribbed back. Level topline. Super rear. He carried a lovely jacket. Delighted to hear that Liz Cartledge made him BIS. G2 was the Wire Dachs, Ch Silvae Solo. I gave her the breed a week ago. I think she is a super Dachshund. So well made, lovely head and a great coat. She has a lovely long stride from her correct angulation but can just run away with herself, whilst the Petit's performance was flawless. G3 a really lovely young Afghan, Popovs Sazerac At Sarakhan JW (Imp NLD). She is the right shape and proportions, fem head. Well laid shoulder. Topline is firm on the move and goes with such style and a typical springy gait. G4 a really lovely Deerhound, Cotherstone Islay Mist At Kaleginy DEERHOUND. Judged her a few months back and gave her the CC, I think she is looking better today. A lovely head, strong neck. Well laid shoulder. Such a curvy outline and v light on the move.

Hound Puppy Group

Some very promising pups, but some rather threw their chances away. The winner was the Saluki, Aus Ch Crisnick Houdini (Imp). He is so shapely and has such a long light stride. Liked his head, well laid shoulders, super topline. Will be interesting to see him at maturity. Congratulations on RBPIS Runner up was the Min Long Dachs, Larkhund Sofia. She really is a proper Dachshund scaled down with long hair. She has a super front, with lengthy neck. Went really well, very little between the top 2. Must make up easily. 3 The Min Smooth Dachs, Bronia Biaggio. Lovely proportions and sound as they come. Just a fraction heavy in front for my preference. 4 the Fauve, Rangali Wispa. V much a baby, but so typical. She has a lovely head and in super coat.
