Welsh Springer Spaniels 

It was a pleasure to judge a lovely entry in both quantity and quality in the breed’s homeland. All the welshies were presented to a high standard.  

Dogs 

Minor Puppy – Entries: 5 Absentees: 0  

1st Cemis’ TAIMERE'S TALK ABOUT ME   

Well grown 8 month, well-shaped head of good width, clean neck of good length leads to well laid shoulders. Balanced in body with good length of rib. Well turned stifles. Happy disposition.  

2nd Phillipson’s MENSTONIA METEOR  

Just 6 months and full of promise, kind in eye with good ear placement. He has a good length of neck, straight, well boned legs and round feet. Good length of body with well angulated quarters.  

3rd Knowles’ MENSTONIA MINSTREL (MRS C KNOWLES)

1st Ritchie and Butler’s SLAPESTONES DIAMOND MINE   

Very naughty 10-month-old. Well-shaped head with typical expression and correct stop. Strong neck and good shoulder angulation. Good depth of chest, firm topline with correct tail set. Good bend of stifle. He took time to settle on the move but got better as the day progressed. Best Puppy. Looked well in the Puppy Group.

1st Worth’s SARABANDE LORD OF THE DANCE   

At 17 months is starting to look the part. Compact and balanced through. He has a good head with dark eyes, straight front. Good depth of ribs. He has good width over his quarters. Well presented with lovely rich red colour.  

2nd Douglas’ BONVIS CADFAEL TO SANTALLINA   

Just 12 months and not as forward as the winner. Good in head with well placed ears, good reach of neck, good length of rib. Well presented.  

Post Graduate – Entries: 8 Absentees: 1  

1st Graham and Hogstrom’s DON'S STATEMENT TO NYLIRAM   

Very promising youngster. Looked well today. Balanced in head without being overdone. Clean neck of good length, well laid shoulders, straight in front with lovely feet. Good width and depth to his chest, firm couplings and good tailset. He has plenty of rear angulation enabling him to move easily. Reserve CC.  

2nd Cemis‘ SHANDWICK VISCOUNT   

Larger type, good reach of neck with straight, well boned front. Good length and depth of body. Well turned stifles. In good coat of rich red colour.  

3rd Riley’s FERNDEL BUTTERMINT AT RAVENSWORTH   

Limit – Entries: 9 Absentees: 1  

1st Rees’ HUDOLUS RHYS HENLLYS AT TYPICA   

Well presented and on top form, this one took my eye on first inspection. Masculine, well-shaped head with typical expression and good ear placement. Clean neck of good length leads to well laid shoulders. Straight well boned front legs. Good ribcage with length, width and depth, firm couplings and correct set on of tail. Good width to his quarters. Moved well showing plenty of extension. A pleasure to award him his first CC. 

2nd Riley’s FERNDEL PEANUT BUTTER AT RAVENSWORTH  

Not disgraced being second in such a competitive class. Balanced head with kind eye. Strong neck of good length. Correct in front showing enough width through. Good length of body. He has well angulated quarters and moved truly.  

3rd Sutherland’s JACRANELLA SOLO

1st Graham’s SH CH TAIMERE'S TWISTER ROUND NYLIRAM  

Well presented worthy champion in good form. Correctly balanced head with good shape between his eyes, Clean neck of good length, good width and depth of chest, strong over his loins, well angulated quarters used to advantage on the move. In good coat and condition.  

2nd Murray’s LYNDFIL SIMBA FROM PRIESTBECK  

Looking as well as ever. Good head with kind expression. Straight in front with enough width. Good length of ribs. Well turned stifles giving a picture of strength. Moved easily and honestly.  

3rd Worth’s SARABANDE PERFECT STORM

1st Barkley’s SH CH CHERRYHEATH'S MR MISCHIEF   

Old favourite still enjoying his showing. A credit to his owner. So typical and unexaggerated. Balanced head with gentle expression, good ear placement. Straight front legs leading to lovely feet. Short firm couplings, well developed quarters with good second thigh. He moved really well.

2nd Attwood’s KYLOWEN DRYM  

One I have liked from the ringside. Good head with defined stop and good length of muzzle. Strong neck and good shoulder placement. Well angulated quarters. Looked well standing but did not get going as well as I know he can.

1st Whitfield’s BENOVEOR TICKET TO RIDE  

Just 6 months. Pleasing through with good ear placement, dark eye colour and good pigmentation. Needs to develop in body as you would expect at this age. Stood well and showed a positive attitude.  

2nd Dimond and Edwards’ ROXDALE MOTHERS GIFT   

Another baby of 6 months, a little unsure at the moment but has good depth of colour and dark eyes. She will come on with time and experience.

1st Knowles’ MENSTONIA MAKE A WISH  

Really liked this 9 month youngster. Feminine through with a quality head and dark eyes. Straight, well boned front legs. Clean neck of good length. Good width and depth of chest for her age. Firm short couplings, she has good rear angulation and correct tail set. She moved truly. Close decision for Best Puppy.  

2nd Thomas, Burchmore and Bowd’s BOWDONIA MOON RIVER   

Another good one. Lovely head with good eye colour. Good reach of neck and straight front legs leading to neat tidy feet. Balanced in body with good length of ribs. Good turn of stifle enabling free true movement. Should do well. Two really lovely puppies.  

3rd  Thirlwell’s FERNDEL FOOLING STAR

1st Worth’s SARABANDE DANCE TO THE RHYTHM   

Very promising type. Full of energy and life. Good head with defined stop and kind expression. Arched neck of good length. Straight in front with elbows tucked in. Balanced in body with firm loins, good width over her quarters with plenty of angulation. Moved well showing plenty of enthusiasm.

1st Jones’ JULITA RUMOURS AT TROSLEY   

I was really impressed with this one. Has a lot of what I was looking for today. Typical head with enough shape and not over done. Good ear placement with kind dark eyes. Clean neck of good length. Correct in front, elbows well tucked in. Good width of ribs and firmness of topline. She has width over her quarters. She moved soundly showing a positive attitude. Close up to top honours.  

2nd Knowles’ MENSTONIA MIDNIGHT DREAMER  

Close decision here. Another good one. This 2 year old is coming together really nicely. Pretty in head with good reach of neck and straight front. Well balanced body with good length of rib and firm couplings. She has good rear angulation. Moved well but just lacked the confidence of the winner.  

3rd Morgan and Schofield’s CWSSCWN DE JA VU

1st Graham’s FERNDEL COVER STORY ABOUT NYLIRAM  

Won this class on her positive outlook and movement. Feminine head of good shape, correct ear placement, Well boned legs and round feet. Good rear angulation with well turned stifles, correct tail set and hocks well let down.  

2nd Ritchie’s SARABANDE ETERNITY AT SLAPESTONES  

Another good type here. Lots to like, stronger through but still well balanced. Good head with dark eyes and good ear placement. Good length of rib, firm topline and correct tail set. In good body.  

3rd Sutherland’s JACRANELLA SONATA

1st Thomas and Upton’s SH CH BOWDONIA SERAPHINA  

My Best of Breed today. Impressed on first sight and did not disappoint in any way. Good head with lots of shape and free from exaggeration. Strong clean neck of good length leads to a straight front with good bone and well laid shoulders. Mature in body with good width and depth to her chest. Firm over her loins, she has good width to her quarters and good rear angulation. Presented in full coat and moving to advantage. CC Best of Breed. Looked well in the group.  

2nd Lancett’s  COEDYBRAIN NIA AT CWMBEILI  

Another quality welshie. Different type with much to admire. Feminine head with soft expression. Good reach of neck and well laid shoulders. Elbows nicely tucked in. Good width and depth of chest, strong over her loins. Well turned stifles and hocks are well let down. She moved soundly and true holding her topline nicely. Took the RCC in stiff competition.  

3rd Sutherland’s JACRANELLA SERENADE  

Veteran – Entries: 3 Absentees: 1  

1st Attwood’s IR SH CH MOORASH LADY YGRAINE OF KYLOWEN  

Looking well for nearly 8 years. Refined head with clean neck, well laid shoulders and good in front. In good body and condition. Moved well with positive hind action.  

2nd Morgan’s GARBETH MIDSUMMER MAYHEM AT QUENSHA  

One I have liked before. Pretty headed 8 year old with balanced body, good legs and feet. Moved well for her age.

VHC in my Limit class, Smaller type with pleasing head and kind eye. Good reach of neck, straight front. Balanced in body with good width of rib. Moved soundly here.  

2nd Woodward’s SARABANDE BILLIE JEAN AT HINXWOOD  

Feminine 3 year old. Finer through. Lovely deep red colour. Positive temperament.  

3rd Lampersberger’s  BENOVEOR FIELD OF DREAMS TO KURZEJA
