Border Union Championship Show 17-06-2018

Judge: Jacqui Ward

It was a pleasure and a privilege to be invited as a replacement judge for the Gundog Group at this popular outdoor show. There is always a warm and friendly relaxed atmosphere around the show and some excellent camaraderie around the rings. The committee work so well together with excellent organisation to ensure that all breeds and the groups were judged in an organised and timely manner.

It was a strong group full of some quality dogs and I was extremely pleased with my shortlisted dogs. In addition to my 4 placed dogs, I shortlisted the masculine and free moving German Shorthaired Pointer AMCGH/SH CH VJK-MYST GOESLIKETHEWIND OF BARLEYARCH (IMP USA), the fit for function German Wirehaired Pointer, SH CH KIMMAX KURIOUS GEORGE, the stylish, feminine and free moving Gordon Setter, SH CH HERNWOOD CALYPSO GODDESS and the Large Munsterlander, CH RAYCRIS FREYA, who displayed a most typical breed outline.

Group 1:  Cocker Spaniel,  Amos-Jones, SH CH VERATEY VINCENZO AT CASSOM JW     Could not get passed this young man, he is presented in immaculate coat and condition, he is of correct size and proportions, masculine head with good balance of skull and muzzle, loved his eye and expression, strong neck, clean front, good expanse of rib, strong top line, short strong loin, strong rear quarters. On the move he really used the ring, covering the ground, never loosing his topline and with a super merry tail action, he did everything to secure him the top spot.

Group 2: Irish Red And White Setter, Tattersall’s SH CH ALANEA SUMMER COTTAGE    She really pushed the winner hard, it was a pleasure to judge her as I have often watched her from the ringside and she did not disappoint. She was presented in outstanding condition, she has an extremely feminine head with a delightful eye and expression, balanced in outline, super neck, well laid shoulders and good rear angulaton with low set hocks, she shows good depth and strength of body, firm top line and strong loin and moves with a pleasing gait.

Group 3: Weimaraner, Rayner & Maskell,  SH CH GUNALT ACADEMY OF RAYSTANS JW SHCM    A masculine and powerful dog in fit hard condition, balanced in outline and displayed excellent breed type, super expression, strong neck and topline, excellent body proportions, strong loin and strong muscular quarters, he moved true and precise with excellent reach and drive, in fact it was the best I have ever seen him move, which secured him his place.

Group 4: Retriever (Flat Coated) Miss I Wiesner, CIE/NUCH/SEUC/HRCH/ESTCH ALTAFLATS AIN'T I''M A DOG NV-14-17 NORDV-15     An upstanding bright and active dog, he is a strong and masculine exhibit with a typical overall outline, good depth of rib, well coupled and well muscled quarters, he was presented in outstanding coat and condition, he had a free and flowing gait and displayed a wonderful outgoing temperament.
