Breed: Leonberger

City of Birmingham 2018

Leonbergers

I had a wonderful time giving my first CCs in this terrific breed and thank City of Birmingham for the opportunity. I have been absent from the ringside on purpose and the dogs today, I think, were mainly new to me. Temperaments were delightful as always and the ringside very sporting with a lot of applause. It did get warmer as the day went on and some exhibits felt it a little. Coats were a bit sparse on some but I mainly forgave this.

Thank you for having me.

1st:  BURRELL Mrs A Rossnick Quest For A Star Sh.CM

8 y/o in great condition. Lovely outline. Long head and roman nose. Massive bone. Wonderful rib and loin. Good tail set. Moving very freely.

Class PD (6 Entries) Abs: 4

My first decision of the day and two more diverse dogs you could not find, but both having good attributes.

1st: WOOD Mr & Mrs M & K Gabriel-hudson Leo Vom Zarendorf (Imp Rus)

Lovely head and muzzle on this very well grown lad. Good length of neck and topline is good for a youngster. He has the height, now he needs to fill in with the rib to come down and generally bulk up.BPB

2nd:  DAVIES, Mr M & DAVIES, & & DAVIES & Alfross Kopuko Aelius

Good bone and feet on this smaller youngster. Head is not so pleasing as yet with eye being on the light side and the proportions yet to settle. Good strong stifles which show on the move. He is very precise on the up and down but topline is not so steady on side gait or on the stack.

Class JD (3 Entries) Abs: 0

1st:  BODLE Mrs B Debbollinby Just Kruzin' Into Kitarn

Well built chap who impressed for overall outline and substance. Good head type and enough back skull. Good angles, back and front which he uses well on the move. Excellent in many departments and will be interested to see how he matures.

2nd:  PEACHEY, Mrs J D & PEACHEY Miss L R Remrod's Blue Spinel At Taffnia (Imp)

Sandy coloured boy with a lovely head. Good for bone. Exceptional rear action but the front needs to develop downwards and outwards to match and attain balance. Very promising.

Presented a good profile on the stack. Good head. Front action could be more precise.

Class  LD (4 Entries) Abs: 1

1st:  BURRELL, Mrs A & HOLLIDAY Mrs A Lionslord Full House

Large well boned male. Good head with black mask and roman nose. The soundest in this class having a well laid shoulder decent upper arm and moderate angles. Moving out with ease and balanced side gait.

2nd:  BANCROFT Ms L E Jantonely Pucker Up Flynn

All breed essentials were there and a kind eye and good temperament added to the picture. Solid lad with substance and bone. The up and down could be better

3rd:  AMESBURY Mr & Mrs M & J Lionscourt Griffon At Morwinas

Class  OD (6 Entries) Abs: 1

1st:  BROWNE Mrs H J Ch Engelben Fred In The Woods

Most lovely mature male and such a showman, enjoying his time in the ring. Excellent for neck, shoulder and strong loin. Good angles used well on the move and this is where he really scores. He has great balance both stacked and on the move. This is where a number of dogs could improve. Presented in great muscular and coat condition. Gave a great performance in the group. CC and BOB

2nd:  LEAR-SCHOFIELD, Mrs C E & SCHOFIELD Mr J Ch Lempileijonan Itse Kateudenpoika (Imp)

A substantial male with a good strong neck and top line. Well boned throughout and a strong masculine head. Moved out with great ease and covered ground. Very impressive stallion male. ResCC

1st: 2871 LEAR-SCHOFIELD, Mrs C E & SCHOFIELD Mr J Alfross Kapuko Kalinda

Beautiful puppy bitch. Well proportioned and very sound with impressive topline for age. Excellent overall proportions. Outstanding on the move and in good coat and condition. Lovely head with kind eye and black mask. BPB and BPIB

2nd: 2886 RUSHBY Mr & Mrs D Amathus Especially For You Jocolda

A rather unsettled and bouncy girl. Excellent for overall proportions and well developed body. Hard to assess on the move as she was neither as precise or settled as 1.

3rd: 2878 NEWMAN Mr M B & Mrs A Alfross Kapuko Driana for Coombevalley

Class 943 JB (2 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 2868 HURREN Mrs S Debbolinby Mini Kruz Avec Shaleodust

2nd: 2894 SPRINGEL Ms S Lionscourt Heavenly Hana

Sweet girl with another good front. Topline tending to raise on the stack and on the move. Head is good but ears could be neater. Moving out happily.

Class 944 GB (2 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: 2897 WESTWOOD Mr & Mrs R K & J Leosrus Unforgettable

Smooth moving girl with many qualities. Very impressive muscling so good to go over. Loin could be shorter. Good overall proportions with a good topline.

Class 945 PGB (2 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: 2884 READ Mr & Mrs D & C Jantonely Spellbinder

My notes say ‘bald but beautiful’. Many good attributes including a pleasing head and good muzzle. Very sound on the up and down. Collected side gait.

2nd: 2888 SKILLING Mrs K Dacfolke Odina

Slightly longer cast bitch in very good coat and well presented. Good topline on the stack but on the move tending to roll quite a bit. Head is not so pleasing as 1 with the ears set well back.

Class 946 LB (7 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: 2869 HURREN Mrs S Angel Kingdom Cake Caramel Ekkor Shaleodust

A big lass but oh so very sound. Well proportioned head with dense mask. Good overall proportions and she puts her elegant leg length to good use on the move with easy, sound ground covering with the return of upper arm doing it’s job well. When it comes to ‘fit for purpose’ I have no doubt that she could go about her job in a determined and capable way. CC

2nd: 2889 SKILLING Mrs K Dacfolke Naareh

Refusing to cooperate and with her mind on other things, which was a shame as she is a most lovely bitch. Long head with enough muzzle and a black mask, but still so feminine, Good topline and loving very soundly. Not a lot I would change on this well moving girl. In the challenge, she got her act together and I was pleased to award her the Res CC

3rd: 2895 THOMAS, Miss G & THOMAS Miss T Didleo Europa Star

Class 947 OB (6 Entries) Abs: 1

Two Veteran girls headed the class which is a testament to their owners and breeders. I always think it is a good sign when a breed can field competitive veterans.

1. ROSE Mrs B Leodonna Eternity Bedeburn

What a smooth easy mover this girl is with great moving balance. She just gets her head down and goes! Good strong stifles and hock joints form part of the picture but she is good in so many other areas. Just felt the heat a bit at the end.

2. NIALL, Mrs H & ROTHERY Mr & Mrs T Davenheath Dainty Lady

Slightly smaller but still a quality bitch. Good proptions with decent leg length which she uses well. Pretty, feminine head with no sign of coarseness. Moving out with great ease.

3. RUSHBY Miss K, Leosrus Forget Me Not

Class 948 GCB (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: DAWE Miss J Easy 2 Smile Ginger Heaven At Kensalroag (Imp)

An elegant, well mannered girl. Good for size with nice neck and topline. Hock joints could be better defined, but this does not stop her moving out freely.
