DARLINGTON CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW 2018

BEST VETERAN IN SHOW

Thoroughly enjoyed judging this top flight selection of veterans. In many cases, these dogs are still holding their own at breed level, which says a lot about their enduring vim and vigour. Thank you to Miss Sarah Allsopp, Mr David Guy and their loyal team for a most interesting and enjoyable three days.

HOUND – 1 Constantine’s Deerhound Gentiehun Adelaide of Kaleginy, lovely 7 years bitch of beautiful type and balance and a feminine head, scored on her particularly free movement, keeping her shape on the go-round. I gather she gained her title on the day; 2 Pyke’s Rhodesian Ridgeback Ch Rozelridge Who The Man, upstanding 7 years dog, masculine expression, very powerful movement; 3 Garratt & Oakey’s Saluki Ch Caryna Meilichia, classical type with very pleasing outline, she still looks the part at nearly 10 as you would expect from this breed; 4 McEvedy, Melbourne & Storton’s Basset Hound Ch Dearduenna Stroganoff at Dereheath, eyecatching dog of nearly 9, plenty of bone and substance, carried stern well.

Also shortlisted were the Hamiltonstövare, Briant’s Sufayre Angels Kiss; Basset Fauve, Leech’s Ch Hibeck Scooby Doo with Soletrader; PBGV, O'Brien’s Caldewriver Despicable Me; and Min Smooth Dachshund, Kent’s Lokmadi Hidden Dragon.

BEST VETERAN – My thanks to those who returned to compete in the finale. Only the Stafford was missing, as his owners had had to return to Ireland. I really was spoiled for choice with six super dogs for consideration. BVIS was the powerful-moving Bullmastiff with RBVIS to the feminine & dainty Japanese Chin.
