Irish Red and White Setters

What the entry lacked in quantity was more than offset by the quality on show today. I was very pleased with both line ups. Only one absentee and a high percentage of Champions and CC winners on show ensured that competition was keen for the top spots.

1st Knox and Jakins’ TERNE DES CORIS QALIMERO AT COOLFIN (IMP BEL) What a promising youngster. Good head with plenty of stop but not overdone in any way. Correct bite. Lovely neck and shoulders. Well boned straight front legs. Just right for his age.  Good ribs and firm level topline. Strong quarters with good turn of stifle. He moved well in profile. Should go on to do very well. Best Puppy

1st Gardner’s ALANEA GAME RESERVE WITH DANWISH  At 20 months, this one is developing into a good one. Strongly made through but well balanced and free from coarseness. He has a good head and typical expression. Good length of neck. Decent front with good layback of shoulder. Excellent ribs with good length and plenty of depth. He is firm over the loins and short in the couplings. He was shown in good body and coat. He moved with enthusiasm. Definitely one for the future.

1st Cuddy’s TAXUS GOLDEN PRINCE IN BALBRIGGAN JW

Another good one! Masculine three-year-old. Again, plenty of substance without being too much. Good head with dark eyes, strong neck of good length leading to well laid shoulders. He has a level topline which was held on the move. Strong over his quarters there is good width of thigh. Short form hock to heel, He looked well and moved well away from me.

1st Barry’s SH CH RUSTASHA GOLDEN RAPPER JW. This one looked really well today and went on to represent the breed well in the group. At 4 years, he must be approaching his best. Mature balanced through and good breed type. Balanced head with good depth and length of muzzle. Lovely neck and lay back of shoulder. Well boned with a straight front showing the width required. He has a firm level topline and is strong over the couplings. His quarters are well developed with good width of thigh and turn of stifle. The picture is completed with coat of good colour and condition. CC and BoB.

2nd Barney and Howatson’s SH CH KILLARY'S GRAND VENTURE WITH VANDERS AND ROMAUNT (IMP USA) Well known dog of 4 years. Has many of the virtues of the winner He too is correct in head with dark eyes and well set ears. He is good in front and has a good chest. He has a firm topline which he holds well on the move. He is strong over the quarters and is turned out really well. Worthy Champion who, in my opinion will still improve as he continues to develop. RCC

1st Walker’s SH CH/IR SH CH VANDERS VA VOOM AVEC WROXHAM My CC winner from last time I judged the breed. As expected at rising 10, he is showing his age a little, but the quality is there to see. I really like his type and overall balance. He is not the biggest but so honest and true to type. Lovely typical head and expression. Super clean neck and shoulders, level topline. Strong over the quarters with hocks well let down. He looked so balanced on the move. Best Veteran.

2nd Barry’s SH CH RUSTASHA RHAPSODY IN RED SHCM  At 7 years, this one is also a credit to his owners. Cleaner in outline than the winner, he too has a lovely neck and well laid shoulders. He is well boned through and is true in front. A close decision here but I just felt the winner edged it on the move.

1st Barney’s ROMAUNT CARRY ON REGARDLESS WITH VERRAMI  Pretty 8 months with a lot to like. She has a sweet head that will improve as it breaks. She is good in front with good length of neck and good shoulder placement. She is well ribbed up and has a firm topline. She has good width over her quarters. She just needs time to settle and should go on to do well.

1st Wade’s OLDESTONE CHARLIE'S ANGEL Two different types here both with plenty to commend them.   The winner stood out for her movement on the day particularly in profile. She is very pleasing in head with good eyes and correct ear placement. She has a clean neck of good length, balanced body with correct topline and tail set. She has good ribs and is strong over the quarters. Although not as forward as the second her movement edged it today.

2nd Walker’s ZENDARRIC IT'S A KIND OF MAGIC WITHIN WROXHAM JW  Another good one who should go on to do well. Different type being longer in head. Good reach of neck and layback of shoulder. She is good in front with good width but not too much. She is deep in chest and is form over her loins. Close decision.

1st Tait’s LOVENJOEL SLEEPING BEAUTY Just fell for this one today. Completely new to me but I felt so true to type and honest to go over. She has a lovely head with stop and width but still feminine. Good eye and ear placement. She has a clean neck of good length that leads to well laid shoulders. She is balanced in body with depth and width of chest and firmness over her loins. She has a super topline and has strength across her quarters. She has well developed second thigh and is short from hock to heel. Her movement is free and easy, covering the ground well. Pleased to award her the CC. I hope the next two are not far behind!

2nd Tattersall’s KILLARYS CLASS ACT AT ALANEA (IMP USA) Another lovely two year old.  She is clean in outline and presents a lovely picture. Well boned with good neck and shoulders, she shows extension on the move in profile. She is presented in good coat and first class condition.

3rd Mole and Knox’s DALRIACH SILVER TASSIE AT EDINCRAW

1st Barry’s SH CH RUSTASHA ROSA KIM. My RCC from last time I judged. Pleased to see that she is now carrying her title. Officially a veteran but looks like she can still compete in open classes. Lovely head neck and shoulders. She has super chest with good ribs and is so short over her couplings. She is strong o over her quarters and has a good turn of stifle. She strode out well. Had to settle for another RCC.
