Entries: 2 Absentees: 0. These are two cracking puppies and it was a close call between them. They are very similar in type and construction and I now see that they have the same sire.

1ST BARDANTOP BANOFFEE (MR P & MRS C GUEST). He has a balanced outline with a strong level topline. Good in front with forechest and depth and well ribbed up. He has a handsome head with dense eyebrows and beard. His harsh coat covers his whole body. Steady mover.

2ND MORGANNA ZATAR (MS RJ NEWMAN). This is a lovely puppy but just not as settled as the winner. His head is handsome with correct planes and a very kind eye slightly oval in shape. His eye colour is slightly lighter than the winner’s but it will darken and it does not detract from his very soft expression.

1ST BELATARR JUPITER (MR D & MRS J SPILLANE) Well up to size he has plenty of bone and substance and is most certainly of a robust appearance. He has an excellent forechest but is a tad short in upper arm. His skull is moderately broad and slightly domed but I found his head planes of equal length when the muzzle should be shorter than the skull. He has a moderate stop, strong neck and plenty of depth. In outline he is longer than tall and has wide powerful hindquarters with well developed second thighs. Moves well.

1ST INDRIEL LEGOLAS GREENLEAF (MR D B & MRS B E SMITH) The colour of the HWV ranges from golden sand to russet and is as varied as those of the Golden Retriever. I am not one to mention colour as long as it is within range but I must comment in this case. Generally, the lighter the colour the denser the coat and the heavier the facial furnishings, the darker the colour the shorter the coat and the facial furnishings are less. This dog is pale golden sand but his coat is harsh, just over an inch in length and with undercoat. His head is well proportioned with the kindest of eyes and he has good bone and depth and a great underline i.e. no steep tuck up. He has width behind, a well set on tail and is longer than tall. On the move he pulls hard on the lead and picks up in front but his handler makes a good job of him despite his lack of cooperation.

1ST EWTOR NOBODY DOES IT BETTER (MR A D MOSS) This dog could use more weight to advantage and probably needs to drop in brisket but overall he is very well constructed. His head is lovely with a slightly domed skull, foreface slightly shorter, harmonising eye colour, thin ears well set on around eye level and fits cleanly onto a strong neck. Clean over neck and shoulders, good length and return of upper arm, wide quarters and moves with a precise footfall and excellent forward reach. His coat is wirey in texture and he has undercoat but some judicious stripping is needed for his fluffy bits.

2ND AUCHINNER FIONN (MR C & MRS Y MCNEILL) A good type with a typical head but is a little coarser in skull than the winner. He is robust in appearance, has a good length of upper arm, strong bone and plenty of depth. He is a bit steep in croup and was overreaching slightly on the move. His coat is of good texture and he has facial furnishings.

Entries: 7 Absentees: 1. This class made me think hard. All of them had type and characteristics to commend them but they were all rather different in style.

1ST EWTOR SKYFALL AT MINDSZENTY (MRS M L & MR E J HIBBERT) Presents an imposing outline with nothing exaggerated or coarse about him. He has a great headpiece of correct proportions, dense eyebrows and a full beard which gives his head the required square appearance. His neck is well arched and strong and fits cleanly into well laid shoulders. His body is strong and well proportioned with a good spring of rib, level topline and short, strong loin. To be hyper critical he could use just a tad more weight. His coat is harsh and close fitting with undercoat and there isn’t the slightest hint of sheen to it. His slightly sloping croup is rounded off towards his tail set but he is so proud of his tail on the move which cost him in the challenge. Nevertheless, his animated, free flowing movement and overall excellent breed type were rewarded with the Reserve CC.

2ND BELATARR NORTH BY NORTHWEST SHCM (MS I E COLLIER) Another with a well furnished head but this time perhaps a touch too much. But I always say that if a dog has coat you can do something with it; if it has none there is nothing you can do. He has bone and substance with forelegs placed well under his body, elbows well tucked in, a good spring of rib, wide, powerful quarters with a nice flare over his hips and moves on an easy stride.

1ST SH CH TRAGUS FOX APPEAL (MR P & MRS L UPTON) This dog fits the general appearance of the breed standard perfectly i.e Medium sized, wire coated, distinguished appearance, with a more robust build and a stronger bone structure than the shorthaired Vizsla. He is moderately built and presents himself with confidence and a haughty appearance. He has strong bone and is robust with plenty of heart and lung room and elbows well let down. He carries a strong level topline with an equally good underline and has a short muscular loin. He is moderately angled behind with a well rounded and muscular bum. He stands on strong neat feet with thick well cushioned pads. The coat of this breed should be its defining feature and this dog’s is text book. His outer coat is thick and harsh to the touch and has undercoat, his eyebrows dense and together with the beard on both sides of his muzzle gives his head its square appearance. His head is moderately broad and slightly rounded, moderate stop, rather human expression in his eyes, muzzle slightly shorter than skull and a big nose for scenting. His ears are thin and set on just about level with his eyes, they are not long but proportionately long and lie close to his cheeks. On the move he has great forward reach and his hind legs extend fully backwards giving a good view of the full hind pad. His tail carriage is a joy to behold being carried on a level with his back. His owner/handler is totally at one with him and they make a great partnership. I was delighted to award him the CC and BOB and to see him make the cut in the group. He is making a name for himself and putting the breed ‘on the map’.

2ND SH CH BELATARR HERCULES (MR D & MRS J SPILLANE) A worthy champion and another who is moderate all through. He is robust and has a rather arrogant appearance with an intelligent expression. He is strong in back, is well furnished but doesn’t have the width in second thigh of the winner. Moves effortlessly.

Entries: 2 Absentees: 0. Two lovely girls but I preferred the bone and feet of the winner.

1ST GINGER LILLIE AOUND OAKBERROW (MS Y L ALDRIDGE) Clean in outline with a strong arched neck, she has a level back, slightly sloping croup and wide thighs. Her head is well balanced if a little round in skull, with dense eyebrows and beard and thin ears. Stands on strong oval feet with well cushioned pads. BVIB.

2ND HERLINGA HERLEVA SHCM (MRS A & MRS T WAND & RICKMAN) Such a happy girl, she clearly loves showing and displaying her mild and demonstrably affectionate nature. She has great length and return of upper arm, a good underline and moderate spring of rib. Doesn’t have the width of second thigh of the winner but moves with animation and drive.

1ST MORGANNA ANISETTE (MS RJ NEWMAN) This is not the biggest of puppies but at exactly 6 mths on the day she has the bone and substance, big knuckles and feet and strength in body to take her far. She has the prettiest of heads with dense eyebrows and developing beard and a beautiful eye shape with the colour harmonising with the colour of her coat. Her neck is strong and nicely arched and flows into her well laid shoulders, she has excellent front angulation, great feet, good width of thigh and short strong hocks. She stood and showed with such confidence and went round the ring like she owned it. I loved her. BPIB.

2ND FITZROVIA TO BE A PILGRIM (MR A E & MRS C T S HARRIS-MAYELL) She is slightly longer than tall, moderately angled has a lovely crest to her neck which scored over the 3rd, good ear set, moderate stop and slightly oval eye. Her furnishings are coming and she has better bone than the 3rd but nevertheless I found the 3rd to be a very good promising puppy.

1ST FASSFIELDS PRIDE ROCK (MR C & MRS Y MCNEILL) She carries a good wire jacket and has great head furnishings. Well balanced head, slightly rounded skull, strong neck and is moderately angulated. Her topline is strong and level with good tail set and wide quarters. Underline is good too, no steep tuck up. Stacked she has a noble bearing and carries herself well on the move.

2ND BELATARR VENUS (MR A & MRS E FORSTER) She has a balanced head with moderate stop, facial furnishings are developing. Wide quarters and good tail set. Neat feet, strong and well padded.

1ST FITZROVIA TO BE A PILGRIM (MR A E & MRS C T S HARRIS-MAYELL) 2nd in Puppy. Best Special Beginners.

2ND BELATARR PANDORA (MRS Z SAURO) 3rd in Junior. She is well up to size and too long in foreface for me. I found her head rather long and narrow but that said she is deep in chest with plenty of bone and substance, has a moderate spring of rib, wide behind and slightly sloping pasterns. Moves well.

1ST VYNESBROOK CARIBBEAN RED (MR M G LEWIN) This bitch has a head to die for. It is just what I want in an HWV bitch. The proportions are spot on with her muzzle being marginally shorter than her slightly rounded skull and her ear set is perfect. Her nose is broad and nostrils wide; the colour of it together with her lips and eye rims being in perfect harmony with her coat colour. In profile the head planes are parallel and her lips tight and fully covering her jaws. Her eyes are medium sized and slightly oval in shape and her expression is one of mildness and intelligence. She looks right into one’s soul. Of course, her facial furnishings make her head what it is, utterly beautiful. The rest of her is not bad either, moderate angles, well ribbed up, great croup and strength in loin. She is an animated and strong mover who holds her head high and keeps a strong level topline and shows a clean pair of heels going away. She was a strong contender in the challenge but looked quite a baby next to the more mature girls. Her day will come.

2ND TRAGUS RED FEATHER AT STUKELEY (MRS T M ERSKINE) Sadly carrying far too much weight today which totally spoils her outline. But she has good bone, is good in front, moderately angled and carries a dense wire coat.

1ST LANOKK VIOLESKA (MR W & MRS S NEWMAN) She was my best puppy last time I judged and I still like her very much indeed. She is good for type there being no mistaking what she is; a wirehaired vizsla. Her head is as pretty as ever and her expression soft and gentle. Her neck is strong and she is deep in brisket with elbows well let down. She is so very well muscled and clearly fit for function as she drives round the ring with ease on a long relaxed stride. In the challenge her high tail carriage distracted from her otherwise excellent type. Good wire coat.

2ND TRAGUS FOXY LADY (MR P & MRS L UPTON) I really like this bitch and on first look round I thought she would be my winner but she is wide behind on the move and doesn’t have the fill in behind of the winner. But this really is nit picking and she is a quality exhibit who exudes breed type. She is terrific in front and has wonderful depth, moderate spring of rib and a fabulous underline. She carries a good wire coat too.

1ST SH CH BELATARR MAHALIA JACKSON SHCM (MS I E COLLIER) I judged this lovely girl some years ago when there was only one CC on offer. On that occasion she was Best Bitch but had to settle for the Res CC as the dog was BOB. The next time I judged her was indoors when I felt that she was not as animated as she could have been. I have always thought that she was an outdoor girl and today she proved it, powering round the ring with reach and drive and holding her head high with a topline that was straight and true and perfect tail carriage. She is so feminine and noble in appearance yet has power and strength, a wonderfully balanced outline, depth, ample spring of rib and wide well muscled quarters. She is so true in front and from behind you can see the flair over her hips giving perfect balance to her ribcage. Her head is beautiful and her eyes tell you what a kind soul she is. And of course, she has an excellent wire coat and facial furnishings. It was my absolute pleasure to give her the CC at last!

2ND TRAGUS APRICOT BEAUTY OF CARLEQUIN (MR S & MRS K RICHARDSON) She is quite similar in make and shape to the winner with a superb forehand and dense coat of good length and with undercoat; you can lose your fingers in it but it still lies close to her body. She is moderate all through, has a well balanced head with dense eyebrows and beard and stands on well boned legs and neat feet. She pulled out all the stops to take the Reserve CC.
